i think the fact that it's surrounded by thick foam will reduce stray noises from being recorded and only what's been spoken _into_ the mic will be loud and clear

It`s a very cheap electret mic capsule - roughly $0.5.It will be strage to have a good sound and low noise from the one.But it`s a very good microphone for an old cassete tape recorder)))
