That's too beautiful to eat.. i cannot! Haha i was pressing my hand when Pai was putting it in her mouth haha Filipinos mostly uses Ube root for that purple color in our dish.
It pained me when you talked about how much Butterfly Pea flowers cost in North America- they literally grew like weeds outside my apartment in Phitsanulok. I'm trying to grow some here in Florida right now with limited success :-/
@@leakindt653 wow! Did you declare you brought seeds as biologists can tell you how an echo system cam be damaged like other invasive things brought into Florida that cost millions to control for taxpayers?
Lol I watched a Thai bl series this year and the main character made these ( and many other snacks) interesting to watch these types of snacks being made!
I always order these at NYC's Thai Villa (when they are not sold out) I order 4 orders every time lol of the vegetarian ones, they are so pretty to look at and so delicious. One day I'll use your recipe and attempt to make them myself. Thank you for taking the time to film this. BTW Ive learned how to cook at home all my favorite Thai dishes which kept us happy during the shutdown when all our amazing Thai restaurants were closed in NYC
Oddly enough, I've learn about this dessert watching Until We Meet Again, a Thai BL series. 😍 I went to research it and made a batch for myself, although I felt I needed to taste the actual dish in Thailand someday soon.
As a Thai, in my opinion this one is such a classy food. I can barely see at streetside. If my memory serves me right, ever since I was born I had this food only one time. There's another food which is similar to this one called SA KU SAI MOO. (Tapioca dumpling) The filling is same with this one. I think her next clip might be Tapioca dumpling, because she still have leftover fillings. Let's see!
To be honest i have been planing on Doing a Dish that Highlights Dumplings (South East Asia) in one Sitting ... I have been researching different types of dumplings that resembles Each Countries and this will be my final Dumpling recipe i will make
Hey! There is Thai Y series caller Until We Meet again Where there appear many Traditional dishes and this is one of them, can you please do some of them I tried looking for recepies but the translation aren't always that good
Tbh i remember watching people use two slim-headed toothpick glued together to achieve the same effect, probably the clip is not related to this dish but something we could try.
In Thailand, the traditional way to make the dough is to cook the dough in a brass pan called กระทะทองเหลือง and over coal. As for the filling the lower the heat and the longer you cook it the better it tastes. When I make this the filling takes about 5 hours of stirring in a brass pan, and the filling becomes glossy and shiny. The recipe given in the video is very easy compared to the traditional recipe and is actually looks pretty good as well.
As somebody who grew up eating Thai food, I love these kinds of recipes because they are for special occasions and rarely eaten. They also show an elegant side to Thai cuisine, where the presentation takes it up a notch. I would love to give this a try perhaps for the holidays at the end of the year or for a dinner party sometime.
There are people who said something like that, which make us Thai quite perplexed. I don't know how much peanuts was used in Thai kitchen abroad, but here in TH, it's not that much. On average I eat dishes which have peanuts as an ingredient only once or twice a month. There are lots more of of Thai dishes without the ingredient.
Blackforager on IG has a video on how to make a blue-purple color changing syrup from dog violets and they're very common in northern US. I bet you could use them for this if red cabbage doesn't work out.
Hey Pailin, could you pleeeeaaase upload a video on how to make authentic ยำตะไคร้ (yum takrai?). I‘ve been looking for a good recipe for ages and it‘s one of my all time favorites. Thanks for your amazing recipe as always. You are definitely my go to when it comes to Thai dishes :)
So there’s one time when I was grade 5 (ป. 5) and I made this dumpling on my own, I literally can’t remember how I did it and I probably can’t do it now (just for how much work is needed hahaha)
Absolutely delicious, made it twice in the last few days!! Eaten the filling only with rice...lol Goes well as an alternative for a quick lunch, in the second batch I added some Thai chili flakes to off set the sweetness of the pork, big success and great alternative to Nam Prik Ong as I can’t always find cherry tomatoes!
Thank you for this, Pai! I've seen this at a BL series and I was intrigued. I didn't expect it was this tedious to do it! It's really very pretty! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, dear Pailin. Those little treasures look so, so pretty! I'm terribly keen on giving them a try, just to proof myself that I'm able to do that. Together with the "galloping horses", maybe. For a very, very, VERY special occasion. Lots of love from Switzerland
Shout out What happened to RU-vid? I can't get rid of the grey-shaded and the pause+forward+backward functions occupying about 90% of the screen. This is painfully time and effort consuming. I wouldnt do it unless it's helping me earn money or that I need to impress very important people. The filling is easy enough though. Prob just eat it with rice or wrap with rice paper/normal commercially made wanton skin...
Yay! My request has been granted! I remember requesting for this dumpling, because you made first Thai Royal dish from someone gifting you a recipe book. :) Thank you Pai! Happy New Year to you and your love ones. Wishing you health and happiness!
I had come across butterfly pea flour on Amazon one day and saved it to my "foods and cooking" list because I thought that it was such a beautiful color, (blue has always been my favorite color) but I didn't know how people used it, other than as a natural food dye. This is the first recipe that I've seen to utilize this intriguing ingredient and you even used the actual flowers!!! Your dumplings looked very, very beautiful!!!
@@silvermeasuringspoons6462 Does it give the hair a bluish tint? I'd imagine that it would look quite pretty on ladies with dark brown/black hair. I'm a natural blonde and a very pale one at that, (as a child my hair was nearly white) so I'd imagine that putting that gorgeously colored butterfly pea "tonic" would have a very different effect on someone with my coloring. Do the butterfly peas have much of an aroma or scent? I'm trying to imagine that with the lime... :)
Wow these dumplings are so beautiful . It needs to take time to do ,but I love the way you explain about butterfly pea . It hard to find in USA . Thanks for your recipe ,I will try soon . Happy week to all . Blessing All 💝💝💝💝
I was literally just looking for rice-wrapper dumplings because I have to go gluten free for a while, so this is so perfect!!! I also had them once in NYC when I was in high school, and could never recall what they're called, but I did remember that they're delicious :)
Best ambassador for Thai cuisine! I've made several things from your cookbook and have learned so much from your videos over the past couple years! Happy New Year!🍾
i really love these complex recipe videos, they're really informative and entertaining 💜! hopefully for more in the future (hope its not too much of a hardship 😅)!
This is why it's 'Royal' food, you need a large team of kitchen staff to make it so it wouldn't take forever like it would if only one person tries to do it. For normal people, maybe only do it when you have a large gathering and get everyone to muck in.
My brother and I just made this filling recipe to eat as a normal stir fry, but with a few twists: we used diced eggplant and zucchini instead of meat, brown instead of palm sugar (we also used much less sugar since we wouldn't form balls with this -- I eyeballed it, probably around 1-2 tablespoons), soy sauce instead of fish sauce, plus a splash of vinegar. It turned out sooo good!!! Savory and sweet, with a bit of a mild heat that builds up as you eat it. The white peppercorn + garlic + cilantro stems paste is absolutely delicious and it goes super well with the crushed peanuts and sesame seeds!! Thank you Pailin for this recipe :) I can't even imagine how tasty those dumplings must be, that dough looks incredible
Wow! this is so interesting! The color is stunning! Watching this video is so therapeutic for some reasons, especially the flower forming part! (I mean it could go either way, joy from making beautiful flower dumplings or stress steaming from the top of your head from ruining the dough!). Anyway, thank you as always and happy new year to your family and Adams too!
Hi Adam here - and I think you're going to have to ask her that one directly as she doesn't see the comments on here once the post is more than a week old (as per her note above). You can check out options to get hold of her here hot-thai-kitchen.com/contact . Cheers!
They look gorgeous! I think I'll try to make them sometime, although I'll probably have to sub food coloring for those lovely flowers. I have a bunch of different-tipped tweezers that I use in craft applications which may give nice results too.
Hi Adam here - and I have no idea myself, so if you want to ask her that one directly rather that put it out to the community (as she doesn't see the comments on here once the post is more than a week old as per her note above), you can check out all the options to get hold of her at hot-thai-kitchen.com/contact . Cheers!
Such a beautiful way and method to begin a new year and and enter into a new decade with Pailin! Hope you and your family are all well and have a Happy New Year 2021! -Bob...
You should consider using hibiscus flowers to get a ruby purple color for far cheaper and easier to find. Also could use purple cabbage to get a purple color.
Hi Pailin, Thank you so much for this recipe. I so want to try them! Is that a baking sheet on top of the steamer? I never used them when I steam dumplings because they usually have a sheet underneath them. But I guess it helps the dumplings to not stick to the bamboo?
You are awesome. It's nice to see a cook on You Tube who weighs the ingredients and the dough, shows the products to buy for those of us who may not be familiar with them, and mentions variations and what is considered traditional.
Love your videos. Informative, fun and really good advice/recipes! "No to meat tubes" is an example of good advice. LOL!!! This recipe looks straightforward. You didn't mention if the pea flower added any flavour so I think I would just use food-dye. I think the important part is your flour recipe for consistency. thanks and Happy New Year!
