Learn how to make quick flaky pastry from scratch. You need just a handful of ingredients: 250g plain flour, 280g unsalted butter, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 120ml of ice-cold water.
I will try this - after years of using pastry sheets from my supermarket, I then finding out they use margarine, palm oil, many other additives 🙉 no more processed pastry 🌱
Why not make the dough with a few tablespoons of butter, roll it out, grate frozen butter and throw it on 2/3rds letter fold it. Turn, roll out again, grate butter on 2/3rds again, letter fold. roll it out and use it. The frozen butter grated onto the dough keeps it cold enough to prevent gluten formation. Ready to use in 10 minutes.
Anyone curious to what temp to cook this with, overall I found on delicious's puff pastry recipes tagged with this recipe to be around gas mark 6. However, do your research - I'm going with gas mark 6 for around 20-25 minutes since a) I'm making pastries/parcels which are smaller than a pie b) my filling has no meat that needs to be cooked
I followed the measurements EXACTLY, and mine came out too watery! I checked back to make sure i got the measurements right, the amount of water, the temperature of the water, idk what i did wrong
Hi Rebecca, I think this happens to ppl often when following recipes. My tip for next time would be to always add your liquids gradually. Depending on your particular ingredients you may end up needing less or more than the a recipe stated. Hope this helps. Happy Baking ,✌️.
You did nothing wrong. Your flour just didn't need that amount of water. Flour is tricky w/ moisture. Sometimes it needs less, if it's been humid/obtained moisture somehow. Like @Alicia MP said, it is always best to not add all the water in at once, for the very reasons you experienced. I'm not sure what the save is on a situation like that. People should start adding that to the end of their videos - how to save it, should it go wrong.
It can also depend on the season, if its hot add the recipe amount of water and of needed a bit more If its cold, add a bit less Room tempurature has an effect when it comes to baking
