This tutorial shares the second technique I devised for making realistic wool feathers that contain a wire spine. Larger and more varied shapes can be achieved with this method, making it the perfect for adapting to other projects. Perfect for adding to 3D felting projects, wreathes or costumes. These feathers are ultra thin yet can be twisted, bent and re-positioned. A very smooth finish can be achieved using this method. If you would like to view more of my work you can find me at www.woolcoffins.com

I'm going to try this to use in millinery. The part I really like is being able to combine different colors of wool.

Have you tried putting parchment paper over the wool? It might protect your iron better.

Very nice! Could you not put a thin cotton cloth between your iron and the feather to prevent it from sticking or pulling?

I am sure you can. You may need to adjust the temperature of your iron to account for the additional layers and work in short cycles of heat. The feather may stick to the fabric. I always think the best thing is to play and find what works for you :)
