This is a wonderful idea! However, you cannot rip those open! Here's an idea: make this in halves and connect with a velcro, this way you can engage in some good ol' cracker pulling, the sound effect would be there too :)
I've been making them with 2 detachable ends attached with press studs that make a noise when you pull them. The ribbons cover the joins, and they're like proper crackers.
Cute. adorable and eco friendly..Thank you for the tutorial. Hoping to make some for doggy and cat treats… keeping the crackers in my Christmas tree so the ribbon is well away from our pets until Christmas morning. Thank you.
They are a Christmas tradition in the UK, starting around 1850. I’ve seen them for sale in the US, but they are very expensive. Sometimes, a set of 6 are $30 or more.
Well done, Lucy! I use Clips and needles for sewing the corners. Thank you for explaining how to make nice corners - that helped me! Nice greetings, Simone
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just a safety tip for using a rotary cutter from someone who uses one a lot - ALWAYS cut AWAY from you, never towards yourself. Keep things as comfortable as you can. Turn your fabric, turn your board, or move to the other side of the table you are leaning on if you need to cut in another direction. Also if your rotary cutter has a guard that you click up and down get in the habit of closing it every time you put it down, even if just for a few seconds. They are incredibly sharp and you do not want to touch that blade accidentally. Don't ask me how I know😳
Abigail, you are so right on all these tips. I had a friend who wasn’t in the habit of closing her blade after each cut and she dropped the rotary cutter accidentally on the top of her foot and hit an artery. It took surgery and it was never the same. Love this tutorial though. Such a great idea!
Such a lovely idea! However when you put the chocolate you said a 'bunny' when it is a reindeer. This made me think that we could make Easter crackers. They could be so lovely and pretty :) Thank you for sharing :)
I know what you mean. Maybe cut kitchen roll tubes into sections, or just roll a piece of card. Alternatively you could try using some kind of a stabiliser like a stiff interfacing, fusible fleece or foam and do away with the card. altogether.
