Quick/easy to make and delicious! Looked over several recipes and yours got my attention. Did not like fact of recipes boiling for hours etc. I make soup regularly, this was first time making ham/pea soup. A new soup recipe, my family and friends will be after me to make. Any chance you could do a red rentil soup one day. I used to go to a restaurant every lunchtime which was run by a great Turkish chef. He made the best, thick lentil soup. It was a fabulous reddish / dark speckled colour if you know what I mean. Anyway, just asking 🤞🏻 Thanks for the lessons. My cooking is being transformed. God bless you 👏🏻👏🏻

Its funny I love curries, which is a type of thick soup or stew, yet im not into soup. and I don't know why, we didnt have soup when I was a kid, But we never had curry either, I was 18 when I had a vesta curry, and loved it, ive loved them ever since. im 70 now so you will know how behind we were to foreign muck as my mother called it , how wrong was she.

Ha ha ha, Allen. Love it - Many of the folks said that. I loved vesta's we used to have the risotto and a curry two different nights in the week. Mum tried to get us all onto something different - that opened my door to curries and a whole new world in food. I would say Vesta is probably responsible for my taste bud change! Where's my lawyer? alanporteous-oi2hx If you soak the yellow split peas covered in water overnight they will cook the next day faster. Yellow split peas are the best for split pea and ham soup, and ham stock made with a ham hock. Takes longer but worth it for flavour.

Tried this. Soaked the split peas over night. Next day I made the soup. I simmered it for three hours after that time the split peas had still knot dissolved. Still hardish. Done it another hour. Still hard. This is the third time I've tried. Still get the same reslult. So I use Lentils now

Split peas have a shelf life of about 1 year, after that they get very hard and can be almost impossible to soften completely. (you can liquidise but the soup will still have a slightly grainy texture). My advice is to use them quickly after purchasing and you will be alright.

Minimum pea cooking time 6 hours
@suzannedavidson6292
@suzannedavidson6292 Месяц назад
alanporteous-oi2hx Salt may be your problem. Do not cook your peas in the ham stock. The salt will prevent them from ever becoming soft. Make your ham stock with just water. Cook your peas with the onion, celery and carrot, bay leaves and water. No salt. When peas are soft combine with the ham stock. Enjoy.
