If you've never eaten Strawberry Freezer Jam, you're really missing out. I think it's the best strawberry jam ever because it tastes like fresh strawberries. This jam is not canned, it's frozen.
Strawberry Freezer Jam
2 cups crushed strawberries
4 cups sugar
1 box Sure Jell
In a large bowl add sugar to the crushed strawberries, mix well and let stand for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a small pot mix together the box of Sure Jell and 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly then remove from heat. Add this mixture to the strawberries, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and no longer grainy, about 3 minutes. (a few sugar crystals may remain)
Pour into containers, leaving 1/2 inch space at the top for expansion during freezing. Let stand at room temperature for 24 hours until set. Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks, otherwise, store in freezer for up to 1 year. Makes about 3 pints.

imstillworkin: This video brought back memories that I had forgotten. I don't know how my Mother made it but like you say it tasted like fresh strawberries. My Mother also made green tomato preserves which I have tried without luck to duplicate. She did not leave very many recipes mainly because she did not use them. Thanks! Bernard

***** I first tried this strawberry jam over 25 years ago and I haven't wanted the cooked type of jam ever since. I've never tried green tomato preserves, I'll keep my eye open for a recipe.
@navajopa31
@navajopa31 9 лет назад
imstillworkin: It was pretty basic. Green tomatoes, a lot of sugar, some lemon and cinnamon. After watching this video I looked up recipes again and I think I use the right amout of ingredients the last time I tried, except I did not let the tomatoes and sugar sit for a day or at least overnight before cooking it. With all of your viewers somebody will probably share a good recipe that I need. Most of the jams, jelly, and preserves we had as a child had hot wax poured over them to seal the jars. Of course it did not last very long in our family with my Mother's large biscuits that she made almost everyday. Bernard

I love freezer jam because it keeps the pretty colors of the fruit. I really want to thank you for sharing the Filmore bottle company with us. I ordered 2 different sizes of the bottles and just love them for BBQ sauce and the other for syrups like you did. It will be so nice not to have to pour from pint jars anymore :)))
@imstillworkin

Melody Capehart Medina I love freezer jam because it keeps the taste of fresh strawberries. I love the bottles and the strawberry syrup keeps it's bright red color too, unlike the strawberry syrup sold in the stores.
@Grambon1
@Grambon1 9 лет назад
***** I ordered the Filmore bottles too and used them for blackberry syrup from our wild blackberries on our side fence. They must somehow "know" that their berries will be picked because they seem to put out more berries and less thorns. Or is it my imagination? Maybe what I thought was blackberry stained hands was actually something else. HA! I agree also about the freezer jam. It reminds me every year that even if I don't or can't make anything else the strawberry freezer jam is worth the picking and making. Taste, color and texture: always excellent!

You're so right, Susan. This kind is for real fruit lovers. It tastes like you're spreading fresh berries on your toast. I won't even go near the other kind of strawberry jam anymore. How long does the jam keep after it is taken out of the freezer? Obviously you gotta keep it in the fridge but how long will it last once opened. I know you mentioned 3 weeks but that three weeks is just the time it stays fresh in the fridge after processing correct? Thanks Fab

I'd rather have strawberry freezer jam than about any jam. It's just too good. I made this the first time about the mid 1960's. Back then I had a tiny little freezer, with space at a premium, still this jam earned it's place.

nice video. I was cleaning out and clipping the cord from the momma plants to the babies and seen a lot of slugs under the plants. What can I put under there to keep them away so they and the squirrels don't eats them before I can pick. Can't cover cause I planted all around the edge of my deck around the flower garden and the babies are spreading all over and keeping the weeds down. Maybe broken egg shells? What about this stuff called Diamatiousearth?
@imstillworkin
@imstillworkin 9 лет назад
Karen Lincoln Put a shallow bowl of beer out there. The slugs will be attracted to it and drown in it. I've done this before and it works. Bobby says Diatamatious earth works too. Sorry, I don't know how to spell it.

Do you think it would be OK to store the jam in ziploc bags that I could flatten out to save freezer space and jars (am low on jars - canning season :)) I could transfer to a jar when I pull out a batch. Tx

I agree. You can use raspberries, apricots, peaches and use Jello flavors instead of pectin. This jam exceeds any you can buy at any supermarket including the brand with the funny name. My wife used to make this jam. Use same proportions for the various flavors. My fav was the one I was eating at any given moment. The apricot is in a class by itself. A dollop of any kind is great on vanilla ice cream . If you are reading this, consider yourself among the world's luckiest people. Really!!
