From an era when we lived in the moment and just waited - waited for a magazine to come out every week; waited for a TV programme usually weekly and “caught up” with the 6 ‘o’ clock news. Now we are “on all the time” leading little space in between to look forward to things.

I was a teen in the 90's and loved reading comics and looked forward to my magazines with free makeup and posters of my favourite pop bands to hang up on my bedroom walls. The magazines also came with song lyrics to some of the top chart songs!! 💖

I love watching this programme and I remember when vegetables where seasonal. My parents grew there own veg in the 70s we used to harvest the veg in autumn and I remember when freezers became available we used to sit around the kitchen table chopping veg and shelling peas to put into little bags ready for the freezer. Great times

Most people have warm nostalgia for their youth, whatever the era. Personally I'm grateful for the extra variety, choice and quality of fresh produce available today.

I think it is possible to strike a balance. You can eat seasonally as much as possible and still appreciate being able to buy some peppers and fresh tomatoes in January when you want to.

This was such a yummy trip down memory lane.! It's been years since I've made stuffed peppers and this recipe looked really tasty and quite easy to follow..Mary and Judith looked fabulous..I thought Mary rocked that chic, black shirt dress too..Well, I'll just nip into the kitchen and whip up some fondue to go with those groovy stuffed peppers..😁☮️

Only two things I would change. First, instead of a stock cube I would use the low sodium stocks that you can buy now, and I would swap out the green peppers for red or yellow peppers. Apart from that I would say the recipe really looks like it’s aged well over the years. Can’t wait to try it.

So Love Dame Mary Berry ~ lovely combination of the clearest clipped RP diction (you never miss a word), with very down to earth practical cookery skills honed from her extensive training with one of the best cookery schools.

I don’t know if Pebble Mill was on the same channel, I think it was on the BBC, but I loved these casual day time programmes as a child, they had a unique feel that doesn’t exist now, as everything is available to watch on TV and social media 24/7. It also fascinated me that the TV channels closed down at midnight/1am in the UK, can you imagine that now!! “BBC2 is closing down for the night. Wishing you a very good night. Goodnight!!”. !!! Nothing closes down now (except most of the shops in the towns and cities). A different era, then. I miss it in some ways. Much simpler.

With what Mary must have been making in terms of income, surely she wasn't personally concerned with the price of meat and putting it on the table. I think it's nice that she wanted viewers to know that she empathized with them, but as a personal problem, her circumstances certainly removed it from her plate (ha ha a pun). In any event, it's always nice to see a new Judith and Mary video pop up.

I can't imagine a cooking show today commenting on the cost of any ingredient, or at least not of a prosaic one - "take two tablespoons of saffron and mix it with some silphium....."

In case anyone wants to try it, here are the measurements and directions: 2 green peppers, pot of boiling water, 1 large onion, 8 oz (½ lb) beef mince 1 large onion, 1/4 pt (½ c) boiling water, 1 stock cube or 1 tsp stock paste ("Better Than Bouillon"), 1 T plain flour, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1 carrot, 1 oz (2 T) butter, 1 oz plain flour (2 T), 1/2 pt milk, 1 tsp prepared mustard, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/8 tsp white pepper, 1/2 pt grated aged cheddar cheese, Pam. Preheat oven to 350 f. Cut the peppers in half, and remove the seeds and spines. Blanch in boiling water for 5 minutes. Chop the onion and saute it with the mince until the meat is no longer pink. Mix the boiling water with the stock cube or paste. Stir it into the meat, along with the ¼ tsp black pepper, and 1 T flour. Grate the carrot and stir that in, as well. Melt the butter and stir in the 1 oz of flour. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly. Whisk in the mustard, salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Stir in the cheese until it has melted and sauce is smooth. Spray a baking pan with the Pam. Pour the cheese sauce in the pan, and then place the peppers in the pan, nestling into the sauce. Bake for 30 minutes.

There's no way that oven was switched on or that dish was hot when she took it out of the oven - not a bit of steam or a bubble of sauce in sight. I'm still gonna try this recipe though

Gloriously obvious TV with lack of censorship lawyers watching every double entendre .... Mary Berry speaking in this vid definitely gave rise 😊 to Nigella as her voice could be inserted into a raunchy video eg 'if it's a bit lumpy give it a good whisk....or if you're lucky enough to have a blender...just don't use a sieve it gets v.e.r.y mucky'. Her soft voice with iron will was a step on from Fanny Craddock who would've intimidated Maggie Thatcher.

In Argentina fruit and vegetables are all seasonal yet strangely there is a dearth of frozen veg and what there is seems to be ridiculously expensive in comparison with the UK. The availability of fresh fruit and vegetables year round is worth applauding and in part thanks to advanced farming methods. But really, one pepper between 2 people seems a rather frugal meal, and Oi, Berry, you're well wrong with your comments on adding rice!

Deluded comments like this make me laugh. You are using the internet to enjoy clips of obscure historic broadcasts and leaving comments to communicate with the world at the press of a button. Would you honestly give up the internet and go back to the 70s because of your unhinged fear of the “PC brigade”? Let me guess, you have no gay friends, no ethnic friends, you live an insular life and you are straight and white. Gay men and women couldn’t marry and had no legal rights concerning their life partners. Ethnic minorities had no representation and were made fun of on the telly. No internet, no ability to access vast platforms of information/music/literature/art and teach yourself and explore the world virtually, If that is honestly your idea of an enlightened time to live, please build a time machine and leave. @@londonlady227
