We don't use tortillas in a tunnbrödsrulle, we use a soft thin bread. Also, we do take our hot dogs seriously and it's most often about 40% meat in them or more and we have a lot of different meat in them, not just pork. You have to try a tunnbrödsrulle when you visit Sweden, I guess you won't be disappointed. :)

Thin bread roll is and has been a Swedish classic for many decades - especially after a late night at the pub or the day after when you are hungover. Super tasty and usually found in almost every hotdog stand. It sometimes happens that I buy one just because it's so good, without being hungover. To drink with the thin bread roll, "Pucko" is also classic (roughly Oboy).

A real tunnbödsrulle look like this: First you take a softa thinbread from Polarbröd. The you add Isbergssallad and then you and slice tomatoes and cucumbers and fresh unions. Then you add three big scoops of mashed potatoes and then you add dried dill and two fried hotdogs and then you add some ketchup and musterd. Then you wrap it up in foile and then you add a lot of shrimpsallad on the top! You accually start eating this meal with a fork 😊

Tunnbröd is a classic flatbread, you can find both crispy and soft versions and no you can't really substitute it with tortilla bread... Maybe a middleeastern flatbread would be a better substitute if you can't find the original. But it still wouldn't be the same... It's such a staple that it's hard to replace.

Shrimps and sausage is a classic... You can also try the "Double Halv Special", almost the same idea but with an ordinary bun, 2 sausages, mash, shrimpsallad (pretty much only mayo and shrimp) and some ketchup/mustard. The bread we use (tunnbröd) is a Swedish staple from the North. ❤ It is truly delicious. And we usually don't make the "shrimp salad" from scratch. We buy it at any local store and it works suprisingly well in tunnbrödsrulle. Oh, and we definitely use better sausages than what is available in the US. Aim for the ones with 80% meat in them.

No. We don't use tortillas. It's tunnbröd. It has ALOT more flavour than tortillas and is generally made with a mix of flour. (Barley, wheat and rye) It is also unlevened. So they normally use salt of hartshorn to make it soft and pliable. Also the bread should be buttered on the inside. Next issue..Shrimp salad in the tunnbrödrulle together with your hotdogs isn't the original recipe. The original recipe had pickle relish mixed with mayonnaise (gurkmajonnäs). The shrimp salad thing from what I remember started to come in the 90's and has since taken over in popularity much thank to Anthony Bordaine who put the tunnbrödrulle on the international map (I myself prefer it old school with the relish). The hot dogs we get here are of much higher quality than you get in other places. And there needs to be an assortment of fresh greens in the roll as well. In particular some raw red onion..

Never used a potato press either for making mashed potatoes. It's as you said... A fork works great. xD I use an electric handmixer and you'll get fluffy and flavourful mashed potatoes in every bite. I dislike smooth, semi-liquid mashed potatoes because the consistency reminds me of cow dung, or at the very best, wall paper glue. xD I want my mashed potatoes to have small chunks in it as I think this adds a more "home-made" feeling to it, and also leaves you more satisfied afterwards. :) And the guy is completely right in not using tortillas for them. There's this iconic flat-bread in Sweden usually made from rye flour, water, salt and vegetable oil and MAYBE a little pinch of sugar and without yeast. The dough is divided into portions, flattened out and traditionally baked in a wood-burning oven because this recipe dates back hundreds, if not thousands of years. And it is hard to replicate the flavour they get from making it in your typical electric oven as the burning wood in there will strangely enough, add a certain flavour profile to them, and also help with keeping them moist because there will always be excess water in fire wood no matter how dry it seems. :P

Yes, we take sausages very seriously and there are high quality sausages with a high meat content. He in the video did the Tunnbrödsrullen wrong and also with the mashed potatoes. When making mashed potatoes, the potatoes must be of a floury variety and the cooking time only takes 8 minutes. Then what you should put in when making mashed potatoes is butter, warm flour and cream and freshly ground black pepper. When you have pressed the potatoes and mixed in the other ingredients, the mashed potatoes should be looser than the one in the film. Then a flatbread roll used 2 pieces of boiled hot dog, shrimp salad, ketchup and mustard. Nothing else that he stopped at in the film. Then to assemble the thin bread roll is to first spread the mashed potatoes on the bread a bit up from the bottom edge of the bread., on the mashed potatoes you put the 2 cooked hot dogs on top of the sausages, put ketchup and mustard, then spread the shrimp salad on this. Now you first fold up the lower part of the bread, then you roll this up into a roll, like in the picture, wrapped in aluminum foil to retain the heat in the food. With this, you drink a cold chocolate drink called Pucko. This thin bread roll is a street food that came into being in the mid-60s in a street kitchen outside of Stockholm. This roll is called Raggarmeal among the Raggars. Raggare = Those who cruise around in old American cars and listen to Rock n Roll from the 50s.

There's a lot of quite nice qualitry sausages in Sweden. Not so much strange stuff in them and inmany cases quite a lof of meat. The tortillas, que? Nope, tortillas is for Latino food and no, they should not be wheat based (corn). The fresch veggies is not something you'll find in any tunnbrödsrulle I've seen and not something I want in one either either. Important note is that in Sweden we have pre made shrimpsallad and they are really good. Finally, the portion size is off (imoho), That was like 2 tunnbrödrullar. But they are really good! Can be found normally in any place selling hot dogs. A must try!!

You put a _grillkorv_ on the barbecue or fry it in a pan. And he got some, so he lucked out. The long ones that he was talking about are called _varmkorv_ and you boil them. A boiled _grillkorv_ will taste really bad, and if you to grill or fry a _varmkorv_ it will char in an instant. And yes, what he found is much closer to classic Swedish _tunnbröd_ than a tortilla. There are tons of recipes online if you want to make your own _tunnbröd_ however. It's really nice even when all you want is some bread, butter and cheese.

Sweden has laws and rules for how much meat has to be in a sausage, even hot dogs. A tunnbrödrulle is good, but it tastes the best when you're drunk. If you make it yourself, it has to be a wheat/rye bread combo. Here you can buy it in most grocery stores.

Oh, a video I have seen. As I wrote as a comment section is that hotdogs are wrong. Our varmkorv are more similar to a Vienna sausage/Frankfurter. And the bread is wrong. It's better than tortilla, but not right, as it's baked with barley flour and not just wheat. It has a sweet and rich bready taste to it. Tunnbrödsrulle requires soft tunnbröd - and that is not easy to find outside the nordic countries. IKEA might have them, I know they have them here, though that is the blandest, most generic version of them possible. But it is actually a quite soft bread that rips easily, so in difference to kebab wraps, tortillas or oriental bread it tends to come apart much more easily, and it also is much more absorbent so the contents of the wrap should be kept quite dry, no huge amounts of sauce or watery mash. And if you want to avoid it leaking through the holes put into it (they're there to prevent large parts inflating with huge air bubbles), you should butter it first. The sausages should under no circumstances be "hot dogs". Either it should be proper Wiener sausages - boiled high meat content spiced things in brine, or some similar quality grilled sausage.

I feel like the suggestions for tortilla is so that people can try it. Tunnbröd is not a staple around the world and even though what he founds looks good a tortilla would be an ok substitute. When it comes to shrimp salad, more or less every street corner hotdogplace has it as a topping you can choose. And as someone else wrote in the comments, what would be hotdogs in america is more of a 70-80-90 % meat sausage.

As a person who also like "lumpy" mash, I use the type of masher that is basically one single squiggly "line" made of metal. It's the type most common here in Sweden and it is so simple to clean compared to the ones that's just a plastic disk with holes. The fork method works but if you eat mash often and/or if more than two people usually eat at your house I can see that using a fork might become a pain so I would recommend checking out the squiggly line utensil. I'm sure you can find them everywhere even in the UK and there are three versions just in IKEA. They are called Koncis (pretty sure I have this one bought like 15-20 years ago and still going strong), Vardagen and Hjälte. Traditionally Swedes, at least in the area I grew up, didn't use the ricer to make mash (still don't know anyone using it that way), it was used to made "riced potatoes". You just push your boiled potatoes through the ricer and that's it. You don't touch it or add any additional ingredients because that would defeat the ricers purpose: making light weight fluffy potatoes. It is great with meat stews and similar "wet" dishes since the potatoes kinda just melt away due to the airyness all while pairing great with dishes that need that light potatoe flavour and a great sauce delivery system. Does my love for potatoes show!?

As a Finn I've never heard of this street food, although tunnbröd is sold in Finland, too (and it is delicious - we usually spread butter on it, and some gravlax perhaps, or cheese and mätitahna (Kalle's kaviar) and roll it up). For drunken (or less drunken) street food I would recommend rullakebab, kebab roll. It is kebab meat, salad and kebab sauce rolled in a thin round flatbread, like a very thin pizzabread. If you want an extra treat, add some Aura-cheese (Finnish blue cheese). :)

Of course, I (everyone?) love a jam and cheese toast (but not with the plastic cheese slices) You should slice yourself (a creamy THICK slice of cheddar) then it's wonderful. We in Sweden doesn't have the same cheddar as in Britain though, I'm sad to say (But it's ok . . .)

It is very common here to have shrimp coctail on top of every sausage fast food dish here in Sweden. 🤣 Not only in the Tunnbrödsrulle

Not hot dog in it self, is importen. But we have something you call whole or half special . Whole you have two sausages half you have one. So, you have bredd you cut in middle put the sausagas in the bredd, on top of that mash potatos and yes it has to be soft and smoth. On the sausages you put on ketchup and musten, on the top of the mash uou have frech onion or rosted, and you even have some diffrent other tings like chrimps and majjo, creme fraiche mixed, it is very nice, pickeld cucumber. Or Nothing this this extra. But this is like your fish and chips for us Swedish people

A tip on flavors…never remove the fat…it's the carbs that are dangerous, especially pure white sugar! Fat is the pure flavor source!

We take our sausages seriously. Not Hot dogs! I havent been eaten Hot dogs for the last 10 years I think. We have a lot of type of tasty sausages with 70-90 % meat in.

I think he got confused about it. Americans love their hotdogs and belived that we do as well, just because this is street food, didn't think we have good quality sausages in street food

No I don't use tortillas. I would go for tunnbröd but it's usually a challenge to find those that are large enough in regular grocery stores. I guess korvmojjarna (the street food "restaurants" selling tunnbrödrullar) have some special distributor.

I've never heard of anyone here in Sweden who take hotdogs seriously. I don't, and my friends and family don't. We do not use tortilla for this food, though I personally do because I always have tortilla at home since I love my food in a wrap. It is better though with the correct bread.

No we don't use tortillas they are not the same as tunnbröd. And hot dogs are not really what we use either, a kind of sausage that have more meat and flavour. The kind of sausage do vary from different places. Like southern sweden its more like a german type sausage and in the north its darker and contains more intestine foods. You can buy cheaper tunnbrödsrulle in the gasstations.

He shouldn't put it in the oven. It dried the bread and made it crack.

Hi im A Swedish 50 year old man that likes to cook. Do not use tortillas for this. If you live outside Sweden then I suggest to go to Ikea if you have any close. They usually have real tunnbröd.

That the fanciest tunnbrödsrullen I have seen. It's spouse to be store bought shrimp salad (with 2 to 3 shrimps in) and powder mashed potato....

The only thing I thought about his was that the hot dog didn't look like anyone else, otherwise he did a good impersonation. The bread is certainly not exact, but much closer than having tottilas

Never, you use tunnbröd for this roll, tortillas is just madness! And it is yummy, even though I have to skip the shrimp salad due to allergies.

It has to be tunnbröd to be a tunnbrödsrulle or else it woud be a tourtillaroll. However i prefer my tunnbrödrulle to have sausages with some attitude like Kabanoss or Chorizo sausages 80% meat content in stead of hotdogs. Then i also substitute the ordinary mustard and ketchup with that hot mustard and chili sause.
