I know that this is one of your older videos, but I just had to comment on it. I have a recipe for Texas Sheet cake that is quite good, but decided to try yours. I am telling you that yours is the BEST Texas Sheet cake that I have had. Thank you for such amazing, tasty recipes. You, girl, know how to bake!!!
DO sift that powder sugar for the icing or it looks like pimples in the icing. Ask me how I know this!!! Icing should be poured onto cake right out of the oven.
I just made this tonight for the family and everyone LOVED it, including me! I did toast some pecans in a pan with some butter and sprinkled mini chocolate chips on as well and this took it over the top! Probably best chocolate thing of any kind I’ve ever made. Awesome recipe, definitely 5 stars!
I made this it was by far the easiest recipe to follow, and it was delicious. My grandma made Texas Sheet Cake for us kids and it was an amazing memory. Haven’t had this cake in 20 years it brought back the same feeling. Thank you thank you
Late watching your video, but your recipe was delicious!! I did add some cinnamon in both the cake and icing. (Not much, but just for a subtle hint.) For anyone wanting to try, I swapped the 1 cup of water, for 1 cup of Agave Syrup and skipped all the sugars in the cake batter. (Agave has a lower glycemic index.) Since it's sweeter than sugar, 1 cup was plenty. It turned out excellent!
This was my Moms favorite cake! She told everyone to not touch the corners - that’s where the chocolate frosting gathers 🤭 She’s been gone a little over 16 years, I still make the cake…..her birthday is in April, I’m going to try this rect
I could too....eat the whole pan, that is. TY for this recipe...had it years ago at pot luck, but Texas lady would not share her family recipe w/us😊👍UR A ☆
When the instant coffee was added, you had me! It really brings out the chocolate flavor in any recipe. I am going to bake this for a party and I know everyone will enjoy it. Thank you!
It really needs to be instant. Someone asked if they could add regular coffee grounds. That’s would be a disaster as they wouldn’t dissolve. I could go for instant but I like the original cinnamon recipe. It’s a bit like Mexican chocolate. The icing is a fudgy texture when it gets really cool. It’s amazing. It’s my favorite cake besides hummingbird cake.
@sugarspumrun will you please provide the brand name of the coco powder and instant coffee you used? I would like to make this cake next week. Thanking you in advance 🫶.
I want to makes this for my roommate for his birthday in a few days. He lost his mom in December and he was saying yesterday how she used to make it for him. I can not get my hands on a 10x15 pan in time. Can I use a 9x13 and just watch the baking time?
Your videos are perfect: concise, to the point, excellent instructions, engaging personality, well edited with no unnecessary frills, and you always try a bite of your own desserts! Plus you explain why for certain things, such as your preference for real buttermilk, the importance of a hand mixer, etc. Thank you!
My mother-in-law taught me this recipe in the 80’s. I made it all those years my kids were little and I started adding a “splash” of coffee. My sweet mother-in-law passed away recently. Going to make this today. 😢❤️
Watching you make the chocolate sauce instantly reminded me of the "chocolate gravy" and biscuits my dad used to make us every Saturday morning for breakfast. We called it chocolate pizza. Your recipes are so delicious and your videos are a pleasure to watch!
My family loves all your recipes they're amazingly toothsome but I'm in sad mood cuz yesterday I lost my small pet dog she was very special and part of the family. I do apologise for sharing it with you ma'am. God bless medical student Malaysia keep rocking ma'am.😋👍🙏
My 87 year old mother in law makes this cake, it is so good! Especially with a big glass of cold milk! Luckily she gave me her recipe years ago and the special pan she always used. ❤️
I have a recipe that I've been using for years but I came on here because I never know how long to let the chocolate cool so I appreciate you telling us. I wondered how come you didn't use your kitchen aid mixer I see in the background? I always use mine for it. I am just looking to up my game ! Thank you for your video. My recipe didn't call for the coffee granules or vanilla. So I added the coffee this time!
Thank you SO MUCH for this recipe!! I had lost mine and have been looking for a similar one for quite a while. This recipe tastes exactly like my favorite old timey one and is always a favorite at gatherings.
TX Sheet Cake is my favorite cake of all time. Sometimes, if I have a craving and don't want to make a whole cake, I make the icing and eat it. Not all of it but spoons full over time. LOVE!!!
I have never sifted my white sugar and have never had sugar lumps. I always add more cocoa. Our recipe always was 2 cups flour and 2 cups sugar. The original receipt doesnot have coffee or sour cream. It might be better but not in original. We always mix dry ingredients into cocoa mixture right off the stove. Then added the eggs, buttermilk after dry ingredients mixed throughly. Make mine in a 13x9”” pan. This cake I know has been around for over 50- 55 years?
Now what if I do not have enough confectioners sugar? Could I add regular sugar with it for icing, or should I just reduce the entire recipe? I also do not have my baking pan. I do have two layer pants though can I use those?
You can make my chocolate ganache for a topping ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MPlAzPMJ4fY.html I’m not sure what kind of pans you are referencing but you will be able to bake it in a different pan but the baking time will be different
Regular sugar will not work. It would be too grainy and not smooth and fudge-like. Layers don’t work either. This cake really needs to be made in the classic way or it isn’t even a Texas sheet cake cake anymore. As a Texan who grew up with this cake we pretty much have it perfected. I hate seeing it ruined. You can purchase the right pan they aren’t that expensive. Also…. The sugar is very inexpensive.
I add cinnamon, instead of coffee to my batter. I also use granulated sugar for the frosting, cooking it on the stove until the sugar is all melted and silky. I also punch a few holes in the cake so the icing will soak into the cake. So yummy.
I’m a new subscriber and I’m 71. I was so happy to see your take on the Texas Sheet Cake! I made this for all 4 of my children on their birthdays growing up. My youngest ( I have 4 in their 30’s and 40’s!), turns 37 tomorrow and I made it right alone side of your video! I made a mistake by adding the cocoa to the butter and milk and melting it. It coagulated and I had to start over. I thought I remembered doing that those many years ago!😓
That icing looks perfect and great! I have an easy and delish dessert channel, and I have ventured into trying this style icing, but it never turns out. Your directions makes it seem so easy, I’ve gotta try it. I love how it gets that hard sheen top! What’s the difference in a Sheet cake recipe vs a normal chocolate cake recipe?
NO! Regular coffee would not dissolve but remain as grounds. People would feel the crunchy grinds. It must be instant to make it into liquid. That would be awful!
@@SugarSpunRun im saving this recipe for an occassion next week, though i have my ingrediebts already, 😊😊😊 im so excited bec i.love chocolate. Thanks sam.
Sorry I made this and as the cake goes I’d rate it a 2. Frosting a 1 I’m a bit older and baking most of my life. I thought I was gonna taste something spectacular but not. Even the frosting was a let down. I should have just made the chocolate frosting I’ve been making for years. Maybe one day I’ll share it. This frosting taste like a chocolate candy bar oh well I’ll stick to what taste great.
Uhm yeah…people me it’s the best chocolate cake they’ve ever had. Multiple family reunions and pot luck dinners can’t be wrong. There’s never a crumb left, The frosting is a fudge frosting…not buttercream. It’s a fantastic cake. I’ve never seen anyone that didn’t love it. Have you thought about what you did wrong? This recipe is very old tried and true. I’m always suspicious when something this old and reliable gets a bad review.
