Here is a tutorial and explanation for what I call my "Direct Contact Livebait rig" Ideal for pollack and bass and other predatory fish from the boat on he drift or at anchor.
John, this has changed how I will fish for ever. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m partially sighted so I would never see a float dip this is why I can’t corse fish. But il be trying this when I go out on my kayak next. Thank you very much mate!
John, I live in Essex near a decent pier, every week the reports are nothing but whiting, tons and tons of whiting. You can take 40 lug and catch 50 whiting. Something you said about there being small fish must mean there are bigger fish around to feed on them, was stuck in my mind. So I tried this rig, first cast and I had my first conger. Unfortunately I wasn't patient enough to set the hook and it spat the bait at the surface, but I saw it so now cant wait to get back and try again! Keep up the great work and content.
Something tells me this might be the best video of yours that I’ve watched! Sounds so much easier to switch over to one of these than putting a float on your line (too much faff haha) plus much more control - genius! Do you think fish ever get spooked by your boat being over the livebait? 👍
hi john, i know that is a older video of yours now but i do have a question which has been driving me mad lately......(i can not find any tangle free live bait set ups for wreck fishing), friend of mine keeps saying use scad for live baits but i have been finding that the scad live bait seems to tangle almost every time with the leader or boom when fishing wrecks, joeys are not as bad but they still tangle also, i use a Clear Short Tube Boom as a flying collar set up with a 6oz weight with a 6 foot trace to the hook using 30lb mono, can you advise me what i am doing wrong - maybe i should do something similar to this video - add a small ball weight closer to the live bait which will keep the joey or scad away from the 6oz weight and boom and leader, what do you think john? oh also...boat fishing around my area in teignmouth has been terrible at the moment after the lock down because there is so many gill nets - shame really - they destroy everything or at least cut down on the amount of nets, they are just everywhere, you have watch constantly where you ride your boat or its tangled props as well as my flying collar rigs, thanks john
John, im gonna try some of these electric live baits on this rig but will be fishing from shore and dropping out 300/400m using a drone. Would this rig be suitable and i simply swap the barrel lead for a 6/8oz gripper ? any thoughts on this? btw i haven't tried these electric lures yet but will let you know how i get on . cheers
