I bought a remanufactured Bolt Pro directly from Jetson (before tax) for $224.99. And then they gave a 10% discount... so the total pre-tax sub-total was $202.49...., which I think is a pretty good deal.

Here's some info us non-engineers might appreciate that isn't in the video or links provided: 1) which battery upgrade is compatible so we don't end up frying our bike with an incompatible battery? 2) how can we charge the battery once we park the bike, lock it up, take the portable battery out of the bag, and walk upstairs to our apartment? Is that another video, or is there something relatively simple we can buy? The Jetson itself seems to have the hardware to put in an AC adapter, but carrying the battery upstairs only being unable to charge it-- or charge it with some other exotic equipment -- kinda defeats the purpose of having the battery be portable. Is it easy to rig a charger so that if I'm at a cafe, restaurant, bar, etc and I want to charge this battery over the next 3.5 hours or so.... is there an easy way to rig it up?

Hello Benjamin, once you remove the battery, the barrel jack will still be connected to the battery, allowing you to charge it when it is not in the jetson.

have you considered using a gigantic battery like 36v 20AH? seems like it's a better value and easier to maintain.

When you take out the battery, the round barrel jack will still be attached to the battery with a red and black wire. You should be able to to just connect to the plug directly, as if it was on the bike. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your great videos! Love all the content you are making! In your video you said you would link us to the compatible batteries, but I didn't see any links for this. Could you post some? :) Also if I was thinking of instead of removing the battery from my Jetson Bolt Pro, I would leave the original battery in the bike, and add an extra battery that is removable in the bag at the back. So I guess I would have to buy a parallel battery connector and an extension like you showed to do that. What do you think about that? I mean why do you want to remove the battery from the bike, you still need to bring the bike inside to charge it, so just wondering what the benefits to that are. Anyways, Thanks again for you posts!! I really do appreciate them. Cheers!!

Hello Reflex74, I just added a link in the description to the battery my friend as been using for over a year, and he says it works quite well. I think the parallel battery connection should work, but my personal suggestion is to leave the internal wire sticking out of the bicycle, and the internal battery’s wire sticking out as well. Then you can plug them together when you need to use the internal battery, but the wire can still be connected to an external battery in the bike bag. Hope to help, and thanks for watching!

Hey Tony just picked up one at Costco on sale. I would like to get another battery and add it in parallel to the existing battery at some point. Is there an adapter for two batteries in parallel or should I just splice the wires together. I'd place the 2nd battery on the rear rack like yours. Thanks
@punkdigerati
@punkdigerati Год назад
If you're going to parallel two batteries directly be very sure that they are both the same nominal voltage *and* are at the same voltage when connected, to within 10 millivolts or less difference. Otherwise the higher voltage battery will immediately begin charging the lower voltage battery as fast as it can, potentially damaging them. There are devices that can help prevent that issue, which read each voltage and only connect them both when they are at the same voltage, and have diodes so they can't charge each other. This also stops regen current, I don't know if the Jetson has regen, but it wouldn't work with a dual battery discharge device. There are a few options on Amazon, ebay or AliExpress, under names like dual battery adapter or double battery discharge converter. Little black boxes with xt60s coming out (or different connections for higher amp units).
@philc.9280
@philc.9280 Год назад
@@punkdigerati thanks for the info. I also heard similar information from another person. Apparently there is a cable adapter that can connect 2 batteries dissimilar voltages now
@punkdigerati
@punkdigerati Год назад
@@philc.9280 The dual battery discharge devices will let you use batteries of the same nominal voltage, 36 or 48 or whatever volt packs, but at different states of charge, so currently at different voltages. But if you hooked up, say a 48v and a 52v pack, which even has some overlap in their voltages, it will try to discharge the 52v pack below the low voltage cutoff. That will hurt the cycle life at minimum, but also if it hasn't been balanced well it can bring the lowest cell down to a point where the BMS doesn't let the pack charge or turn on.
@philc.9280
@philc.9280 Год назад
@@punkdigerati OK Ill keep the two batteries as identical as possible.
@punkdigerati
@punkdigerati Год назад
@@philc.9280 They can totally be different capacity if you need though, you can pair the 6ah Jetson pack with a larger one, like a 36v 10ah or even 20ah.

I did the add a second battery hack as per Shiva Sapkota RU-vid video. I think it’s the better hack. Better to leave original battery where it is and add additional to rear bag. Then just switch between the two. Big advantage is weight distribution and leaves room in bag in particular if you do not want to carry a second battery.
@benjamindalton8940
@benjamindalton8940 2 года назад
I'd prefer being able to take away the battery and walk away with it, except that if I can't charge it separately there really isn't much point to separating it from the bike. I'm also considering just leaving the screws out and fastening everything with electrical tape so that I can just roll away with the battery(batteries). but one thing is key here-- the ability to charge the battery without the bolt pro. My big question is what's the best way to do it?
@gimpman1357

@@benjamindalton8940 The original battery is charged through the bolt and the additional battery can be taken anywhere and charged. Remember the batteries have a cable to plug in the charger.

@@gimpman1357 Oof. No way to just pop the bolt stock battery out and charge it? What about the Shiva Sapkota version and just using electrical tape to "hinge" the case?

@gimpman1357 2 года назад
@@benjamindalton8940 I did the Shiva Sapkota mod except I used one less xt60 cable (I did not add an extension to the original battery, I simply ran the battery cable outside). I reversed the original battery. I have to 2 inch cables running outside the bike. ( the original battery cable and the extension controller cable). When I want to use the original battery I connect the original battery cable to the controller cable. When I want to use the extra battery I connect the extra battery cable (with extension) to the controller cable. Everything looks neat. Everything is screwed back together. My extra battery sits in a small rear bag mounted on top of a cheap $12 seat post rear rack. PS. I only carry an extra battery when I need it. Like if I know my original battery only has a bit of juice left. Or if I know I will be going further than usual. I know exactly how far each battery will go (plus or minus 1 km) and I monitor my mileage using a gps enabled speedometer/odometer permanently mounted to my handlebar.
@gimpman1357
@gimpman1357 2 года назад
@@benjamindalton8940 You need to remove two brackets (two screws each) and disconnect/unplug 3 cables. As well as use duct tape to hinge the case. PS. 1. You can carry the Jetson up to your apartment. It weighs 50 lbs. 2. If your adamant on removing the battery and leaving your bike downstairs then consider another model. If you want something similar look at Engwe. If you want something better then look at radmini or radrunner. 3. If you leave your bike downstairs don’t be surprised if it eventually disappears.

I noticed on Amazon that they also sell a 20ah bat so will the 20ah battery fit this bag? And besides triple the battery capacity will the 20ah mess up with the new speed flash? Thanks in advance for any fees back.
@TonyQuillMagic
@TonyQuillMagic 2 года назад
Hello! Theoretically, it should work, as battery capacity should not impact the performance as long as the output voltage is the same. It may cause an issue with the controller or battery level indicator, but the bike will be able to go farther. (Also, make sure that the output voltage is the same, as that is a factor that can negatively impact your electronics). I can only speak for the battery I have linked, as my friend has the Jetson Bolt, and it seems to be running quite well. Thanks for watching, I hope to help!

You can also suggest ADDING a second battery to the stock battery by using a "Y" cable and mount the second battery in parallel. That way you do not waste the nice space in the bike's case. However, you need to know how not to connect 2 batteries with different voltages (level of charge).
