In this video I do a detailed review of a battery I purchased from ebay for my Jetson Bolt Pro folding electric bike from Costco. I show you various tests such as voltage and range tests. I discuss the total range I got from the original jetson bolt pro battery and compare it with this new battery.

*Disclaimer: opening the bike will most likely void my warranty. I am taking this risk to show you all what the bike looks like from the inside and how to replace the battery. I take no responsibility if you follow these steps and void your warranty or burn your bike. Do this at your own risk.
Here are the part lists:
✅Battery: ebay.us/RrdRNr
*I am aware of this battery currently being out of stock, if you want to purchase the 14AH battery from the same seller, it will also work for this bike. However, that battery is a little larger and might not fit inside the battery housing so it has to be mounted outside like my setup. Here is the 14AH battery: ebay.us/E2Uudw
✅T-plug to XT60: amzn.to/3qxWVZ0
✅XT60 extension (I needed 3): amzn.to/3pvgJLi
Here are the recommended accessories:
✅Rear Rack: amzn.to/3mKvpES
✅Storage Bag: amzn.to/2WB96Hk
✅Water Bottle Holder: amzn.to/3pmqZ9b
✅Lock (that fits): amzn.to/3hbhCpT
If the rear rack if out of stock, this one should works as well: amzn.to/3ovIp2i

If you are a current subscriber to my channel you know I did a video a few weeks ago showing you how to replace your battery on the jetson bolt pro. You all requested me to look into a more affordable battery. Then, I posted a video last week showing you a battery I purchased on ebay that has higher capacity and costs around $100. I showed you how to add a second battery to your jetson bolt pro so you can get double the range. At the end of that video, I promised you that I would do a thorough testing of this new battery and make a video with my full review.
Before I jump into the review, there seems to be reoccurring questions about Volts and AH. Think of Volts as horsepower in your car. Higher the horsepower, faster the car will go. Same thing here, higher the voltage, faster your bike will go. So, normally a 48V battery would make your bike go faster than 36V since that battery has much more power, however, you gotta think about the motor controller. This particular bike is rated for a 36V battery, so the controller will limit the power and higher voltage battery might even burn your controller. Plus, 48V batteries are much more expensive compared to 36V. Next, you have the Amp Hours, sometime just referred as AMPS. Think of AH as your gas tank. Larger the gas tank, more fuel that can be added meaning your car will go longer distance. Exact same thing here, higher the AH number, more range you will get. But, higher the AH number, costlier the battery gets. So, it is all about the balance. Now that is out the way, let me tell you about this new battery.

A Mister P. De Leon, woefully appearing too early jn the North American timeline searched for a fountain of youth. Pity poor Ponce. I just bought it! As a 71year old ex 35+ year USCF/NORBA racer, this little unit has taken years off my legs and is just a total hoot! My most important upgrade involved SPD pedals and shoes! No worrys about smooth power transmission or foot location. A lost pedal with this wheelbase and wheel diameter can result in a nasty high side crash or swerving into traffic. Cleated pedals and shoes eliminate this danger. Shiva, please keep relevant videos coming!

I would love to see a video about how to add some led light strips to the jetson bolt pro. I just bought 2 of these bikes so my wife and I can bring them with us in our RV and use them at the campgrounds. It would look super cool at night with some led light strips on them. Most strips are 12 volt. Also adding a USB port would be cool as well

Thanks a lot for these videos. Thanks to you, I'm strongly considering buying a refurbished Jetson with a discount for $225, and starting with that, while I save up money to upgrade it. The first thing I plan on doing is upgrading the Controller for $40 to raise the speed, and a $20-40 rear rack for cargo, then eventually $300 for a 48V 20Ah battery, to upgrade the speed and range. The reason I want to go with such a large battery, is so that all I'll have to do is get a used bike for $50-100 and a Bafang Mid Drive kit for $450 and I'll already have a battery and rack for it, then I can sell the Jetson for $150 or so to help cover the cost of that next upgrade.

Great video. Big range gain. I was thinking of going to 20MAH - think that would burn the controller? It shouldn't do if you stay same voltage.
@ShivaSapkota
@ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
Hello, yes you can go 20AH as long as you stick with a 36V battery. It probably won't fit inside the housing but will be suitable for a rear rack mount. Thanks!

Hey Shiva! Thanks for all your Jetson Bolt videos :) I Just got two this morning from Costco and appreciate your videos. Question for you - have you transported your two Jetson bikes in a car yet? I'm hoping that I could fit both in my trunk and wondering how difficult it was to transport the bikes (getting it in and out of the trunk of a car) :) I've got a Tesla Model 3 and wondering if two Bolt Pros would fit in the trunK? I see you've got a Model 3 too :)
@ShivaSapkota
@ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
Hi Leo, thanks for watching my videos. So, you can relate to my Tesla as well as Jetson videos:) Yes, we transport both our bikes often. We just fold the backseat and put one in there through the back door and put the other one in the trunk. We could technically fit both in the trunk but they would get tangled and become a little tight. If you want to put both in your trunk, you will have to remove the bike seats in addition to folding the steering wheel. Watch those pedals while putting your bike in the trunk, you could accidentally scrape your beautiful Tesla :)
@Leo-gv5gc
@Leo-gv5gc 3 года назад
@@ShivaSapkota Ah okay, thank you for the information. Re the bike in the back - do you put it behind the driver/passenger seat in the rear foot wells, or do you actually lay it on the backseat (after being folded down)? :) I'm trying to prevent my car from getting too dirty and was wondering if it could fit right behind the driver/passenger seat possibly. :)
@ShivaSapkota
@ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
@@Leo-gv5gc Because of the non-folding pedals of this bike, you will risk scratching your your rear HVAC vent panel and also the back of your front seats. I think you can technically fit a bike there but I wouldn't risk it. I normally just fold the backseats and lay the bike there. I use large trash bags as protection above my folded rear seats before placing my bike. It actually works quite well :)

I’ve completed the same set-up as you have, but used a spare jetson battery that I had. I credit you for the inspiration. I’m in the early stages as far as testing the range though. I would prefer a “mid frame mount” for the battery to more evenly distribute the weight, but can’t seem to find anything yet that could satisfy that application. I’m looking for quick release type of solutions. I too would like to see a “controller upgrade” or maybe over wattage as some have done. One fellow has created a dual motor Jetson Bolt. These are nice small bikes to toss into the trunk of a car. For that reason, it’s very interesting to learn how to use creative ideas that enhance the enjoyment of these small ebikes. Thanks !
@ShivaSapkota
@ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
Hi Ray, thank you very much for your feedback. I get pumped with ideas you all share with me here. Dual motor sounds amazing but I will probably need a controller upgrade first. I will continue to bring these videos and keep adding mods to my bike. Those quick release mounts seem to be available as a controller enclosure and even the largest one I found is too small for this battery....Thanks again for your support to my channel.

Makes me feel much more confident, being a layman in such things. LOL Keep up the great work man One question, as I, am a Canadian, do you know, if this battery seller, ships to Canada? If yes, what would the Canadian price for this battery be? The current cost for this battery, for a single unit, now lists on your link, (EBAY) for $132.86 in U.S. dollars. You certainly must’ve done your research on batteries because this appears to be the best deal anywhere that I can find, I’m just hoping that it also sells to Canada. Thank you very much I appreciate your help and any information you can provide regarding this matter. Take care dude. Namaste!

Thanks so much. I am pushing closer to the upper range of the weight capacity for the bolt pro and I look ridiculous riding it, but I still love it. My worry was that I was going to fry the battery a lot earlier and that was going to be the end of it. Thanks for showing me that I can get new life out of such a wonderful product when the time comes! Unrelated question: I would look less ridiculous if the seat had a longer stalk. Is that something that is available or is it considered too dangerous?

Hello Shiva, Thank you for the info video's for the Jetson Pro. I love this bike and have learned a lot from you already. My concern is to slime or not to slime the inner tubes for the tires. I need to get around the grounds for an HOA as their Maintenance person. This bike as been great so far, but I do have to travel off pavement and onto grass. I worry that I may get a flat tire. I already purchased some extra 14" x 2.125" replacement tubes just in case. My question is, should we add slime to help reduce punctures and more important, how the heck do we remove the wheels to replace a failed tire. Love your videos. Please Advise. John
@ShivaSapkota
@ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
Hi John, I am happy to hear that my videos have been helpful. I haven't used slime for this bike but I have patched flat tires using slime in the past for other bikes. If you want to be in a safe side, you can certainly put slime on your tube. It will most likely prevent puntures. Just check the slime website for appropriate quantity (probably 4oz on each tire) and make sure to ride around in slow speeds afterwards to get slime all over the tubes. As far as removing the wheel, give me sometime and I will make a video showing this process. I have gotton a lot of requests to do a video replacing brakes and tires. Stay tuned, I will be doing a video in the near future.

Thanks for updating us on your range results. However, I have a question. Whether you but a 6, 10, 20 or even a 60 ahr eBay battery they are all the same dimensions and blue wrapper. The only visible indication of the battery's actual ahr is the label. So, is there a bench test or meter reading that I can do to measure the true encased ahrs? Thanks.

Hello, that is correct. There isn't really an AH test you can run (or at least that I am aware of) other than just running the motor and measuring the distance.

If you have a higher end charger you would be able to do discharge and capacity tests. These are pretty common in the RC world. And you're right to be suspicious. Ebay amp hours do not equal real manufacturer amp hours usually ;)

Thanks for the video :) But I would like to know if the battery on the Jetson Bolt Pro was Brand New when you did these tests. If not, wouldn't that be a bit unfair for the Jetson Battery vs the brand new battery that you compared it against?
@InspireCreativity2023
@InspireCreativity2023 2 года назад
No. he has owned the bike for a fair amount of time, but it's not old either. He was discussing AH - Amp Hours, which is different from Voltage. Both batteries are 36v, and max charge to the low 40's. An old battery will charge to a lower max over time, and also drain at a faster rate. his bike & battery isnt old enough to worry about this. Now back to AH - Amp Hours. This is the average expectancy of life you can expect from the battery, the Jetson comes with a 6AH battery, and the one he replaced it with is a 10AH battery, almost having double the average expected Runtime. Once you have a 2nd battery in hand, you have a couple options... 1.) Swap the 6AH battery out for the 10AH by taking the side cover off, and the 2-bolt bracket, reverse the process to install the larger capacity battery inside the housing. 2.) Run a swap out setup like he does in the video... You leave the stock battery installed, and you install the 2nd battery usually in a bag at the front or rear of the bike. This method requires running a 3-5 ft. XT60 cable(male XT60 at one end, female XT60 at the other end) from the battery to the inside of the housing... Shiva did a decent walkthrough video on how to wire it up. 3.) the FINAL, and BEST way to connect it requires 3 items... XT60 Parallel Battery connector - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0754JKHWW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A1W8VDBCUTZOME&psc=1 - An XT60 extension cable like i mentioned earlier - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JMW2RVM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A39EAT8H12UMGA&psc=1 - and if your new battery doesnt have the XT60 connector, you will need this adapter - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B091DMLK6P/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A8GRJU0V6WTPX&psc=1 . Having these 3 items and a 2nd battery will allow you to connect BOTH batteries to the bike at the same time, in parallel... which means you are NOT increasing the voltage, only increasing the capacity, in-turn.. increasing the expected runtime from 6 or 10AH to 16AH. Thank me later :)

@@InspireCreativity2023 👍Thanks and just in case other people might have been wondering if the links you provided were safe, I checked them all and they are all safe. :) For us where we live the shipping is killer high for the battery. So far, the battery that came with our Jetson Bikes, one for myself and one for my wife. So far they are still going strong after about 7 months and they are good enough for us. If we have to get new batteries, probably try to get the ones in this video but might try to see if one of the E-Bike shops around here can get them without the high shipping cost. One other thing, People need to know that the bike WILL NOT TURN ON if you have the CHARGER HOOKED UP TO THE BIKE. I'm thinking that some people probably tried to turn on their bike with the charger connected and since it wouldn't start, they might have returned their bike thinking that the battery was dead when it actually wasn't. Hi Shiva , I recently purchased and mounted the same battery you showed in your video regarding the Jetson bolt pro. It is 36V 10Ah . The issue I am having is the charger that came with it gives a large and loud spark when plugged into either wall or 14A extension cord and is not hooked up to bike's battery of course. I complained to ebay seller and he sent another one and it also sparks right out of the box. He says as long as the charger registers 42V and the end that goes to the battery port it is safe. I'm very nervous about this since the bike stays in my living room when charging. For now, I'm using the old Jetson charger of 1.5A rather than 2A on new charger, which by the way does not spark when plugged into same sockets, should be fine right? Also, do you agree that it is safe if it does measure 42v at charger port?

just a note about the self discharge rate of 3% that's pretty typical but if you are going to ever store your battery and not be using it for a while if you store it or keep it at 100% charge for long periods of time it will kill the battery and the only way you will or could get 2000 or more cycles out of this ebay battery would be if you only charge it to 90% every time you charge it and never let it fall all the way down to fully discharge. Even the original battery that's only rated for 300 cycles you could get a lot more then that by not ever charging it or leaving it fully charged.

The Jetson website is currently selling a remanufactured Bolt Pro for $270, including a 10% discount offer off the $300 regular price. From accounts from reviewers it appears to be like new, with the only question being the battery; not sure if that's part of their remanufacturing process to replace it with new, or if they just leave in old batteries if they test out as acceptable. I'm considering it, but tossing up the trade-off of lower price against not having Costco backing for issues. Customer support response from Jetson is reportedly not good, so it's more of a lottery if you get a good one or stuck with a problem child.

Hi Erik, thanks for watching my videos. If the batteries are connected using a Y splitter, you only need one charger. @ShivaSapkota 3 года назад
@@MrBuddha71 One more thing...because the battery chemistry is always going to be slightly different, if you are trying to charge with one charger while the batteries are connected, one of the batteries could "tell" the charger that it is full when in reality it is not.
