Are you a foamsmith and wanting to learn the secrets to sanding EVA foam exceptionally smooth? Well here is my step by step method for creating the perfect SKS Props Super Smooth sanding drums. Simple steps are shown where you can take your older worn out sanding drums (or new ones) and give them a new lease on life by becoming a key part to your tool arsenal. These custom sanding drums are used to finish the edges and seams of EVA foam and give you that professional look like the awesome prop and costumes you see on my channel. After a coarse sanding drum is used to remove the bulk of the foam from your project, these unique drums are perfect for the passes that rounds over edges, smooths seams, and alleviates imperfections. I really hope my custom drum method helps you step up your cosplay and foamsmithing fabrication process.

This is great news! I knew I wasn't just being a mean old git by not throwing out my old sanding drums :) One thing I need to get better at though: that point when your sanding drum goes off the edge of a thin strip and bites deep into other side!

I'm getting the nasty drums just from sanding the floor mats textured side and hot glue. My current project is a prototype till I get more comfortable with my tools. Next year I'm going to buy sks HD foam. Sorry to ask this question in a middle of my comment but I would like to know from the pro foam smith's when I redo my armor what is the go to foam sizes for each part of the armor. Example 2mm for decoration and trim and 10mm for body plate. The reason I'm asking is while sanding down the textured side to fit me better thru rough measurements that im losing roughly 2 to 4 mm depending on where that piece needs to be. Thanks for reading RU-vid section and I can't wait to hear back with your words of wisdom
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 2 года назад
I prefer 6mm for my armor and 2/4mm for details and trim. i rarely use 10mm for armor unless it is one of my big builds like the Gears of War Theron Guard or the Warcraft Orc

Will only granite tiles work for this? It's very difficult for where I live to get any granite tiles for some reason, but porcelean and other types of stone tiles are available - let me know if that's the case!
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 9 месяцев назад
I like to use stones because they are coarse on one side and polished on the other. Basically that’s what you need to look for. The polished side bring the most important to help smooth out the acrylics

speaking of seams.... any idea why my seams sometimes will open up ever so slightly when I wet sand my filler primer? I am using your HD foam, glued with Barge and I usually use Kwik Seal caulk to fill any little gaps.
@SKSProps
@SKSProps 2 года назад
Most filler primers like kwik seal are water activated. But that’s also why I do my double adhesive method on seams because foam and barge can react with heat or friction and shrink while the superglue won’t. Foam clay or gap filla are also alternatives
@quemeese
@quemeese 2 года назад
