Hello, Bridget and Julia, you two made me laugh out loud 😁😁😁 when you discussed the pronunciation of "marinade" and "vase" (4:56). I shall definitely remember Bridget's twenty-dollar rule for a vase if I ever shop for one. 😊😊

I just made this. Like a lot of commenters here, I thought there might be too much soy sauce so I reduced it to a quarter of a cup. I got some Thai basil at an Asian market. I think it’s really worth the effort to find it because the Thai basil adds a bit of a star anise flavor to the dish. I will definitely make this again.

I respect the improved effort at pronunciation. Thank you! I grew up eating this as a kid in rural Oklahoma. My mom had to find the ingredients to make it work. (In fact, a guest cook who has mastered this dish would make a great feature in this video!) With effort, I’m sure your viewers can make it work, too!

Bonless thighs are extraordinarily handy. I will always buy them on sale then cut them into various respective sizes, two thighs to a freezer bag, add some soy sauce, flatten and freeze them. When needed, they thaw on the counter in an hour. Add 2tbsp corn starch to velvet the chicken, toss it in a skillet with some garlic and ginger, add some orange chicken sauce. You will never go to that bear restaurant ever again. Or chicken, garlic, ginger...add toasted cashews and zucchini. hoisin sauce, soy, and sesame oil... boom. cashew chicken. Or chicken, garlic optional.. white wine (Beringer chardonnay works great), butter, capers.. boom. chicken piccata. Etc etc I serve any of these over rice but with the piccata in particular, I saute some thinly sliced green cabbage with salt and a dusting of onion powder which really seems to mitigate the (in my opinion) overwhelming sweetness of cooked cabbage. You can also throw a handful of cabbage directly on top of the chicken if you like it more homogenized. Just add more wine and butter. 😊

@HickoryDickory86
@HickoryDickory86 5 лет назад
The saltiness is probably from the soy sauce. You could try substituting it with coconut aminos (a bit sweeter and has less sodium than soy sauce), and see if that helps a bit. And you can always go for the low sodium soy sauce too.
@cjude6189
@cjude6189 5 лет назад
Or you can check the label of your soy sauce, some brand can go from 11% to as high as 27%. I do not like low sodium soy sauce cuz they can compromise on flavor.

please stick to the cuisine you know. The Chinese dishes on show is often a insult to a authentic Chinese chef. It's often not how we cook although there are signs of self taught methods or Google cooking. Like char siu, when tomato sauce and fat is cut off from the meat it's what we don't do. Char Siu is pale looking and to roast or broil for an hour shows it tells me they chancers. Yet people still watches.
