I like the traditional steaming method with a thin cloth. I think I will try steaming it with a splatter cover I have for frying food. It has a thin wire mesh that will let the steam come through. I assume this cooking method was developed when many people did not have ovens in their homes.

I love these Bohemian Dumplings, I used to buy these at the local market when I lived in Nürnberg. I love eating them with Rouladen, Sauerbraten, and Gulasch as they are so good at soaking up the gravy, although I prefer SemmelKnödel with my Gulasch. The only thing that I do differently is to use Wondra Flour and omit the day-old bread.

I have never seen dumplings like this but they look so good!! Especially with your gravy. Did you steam yours in the open air without covering? About how long? I did not see that in your written recipe. Thank you!

Good point, I have to add that. Thanks for letting me know. It is better to add a lid and steam for 20 minutes. Unfortunately, my lid was too flat to put it on top. I usually use a different pot with a steam inlet but wanted to show the traditional way with the towel.

Anything you want, look up a picture of dampfknödel, it's almost the same thing.

Gulasch is great with it or any kind of meat and gravy. As a vegetable, I like red cabbage with it the most but anything from beans to carrots goes with it.

Do you cover dough or just keep it on top?

It’s best to cover but my lid was too flat so I couldn‘t.
