This video shows how I make turmeric powder 4 different ways with the skin on, skin off (peeled), raw (without cooking first), and fingers for grating over foods or drinks. I also compare the different types of turmeric powders and conduct a taste test to see which type of turmeric I prefer the most. Enjoy!

Thank you sir! I started making turmeric powder a week ago. I live in a remote place where it’s hard me to go to the city to buy turmeric powder ( I drink it as a tea due to it’s amazing benefits.) I just watched youtube videos on how to make homemade turmeric powder.Thank God our place has tons of turmeric plants. Turmeric plants here just grow everywhere. Kids neighbours like to harvest them almost everyday to sell it to us so they can buy food. At first, it was just a personal consumption but I can’t stop those kids from delivering because they also need money to buy basic needs. So I started to message my friends and shared them the story. My friends have started buying turmeric powder from me since last week. By the way, I don’t have a dehydrator so I just dried them under the sun for atleast 3 days. Stay safe everyone.God bless us all❤️🙏🏼

I have done a good bit of research on tumeric for its pain support and here is what I found. If you leave the skin on it has more value and you don't need to add pepper or coconut oil to get the most out of it & digest better as the skin has that in it. I don't boil for more than 30minutes and then only to get the skins off really easy ..they just slip off without losing the flesh. (note: when I skin the tumeric I save the skins & put them in the food processor & then dry them for use in the dogs, cats & hog feed because it is good for them.) I do mostly fresh un cooked with skin on & put them in the chopper & straight onto the dryer sheets for 6 to 8 hours on 125 & I use tumeric in almost everything I cook & drink. with ginger & tumeric in hot milk...great. the mothers I peel raw & dry after chopping in chopper and the are a deeper orange color than all the rest

It's safe to say this is one of your best ever videos, Mark. Oh, the amount of time and effort you must have put into shooting these 12 minutes! Tight script, scientific approach, *highly* instructive. I already downloaded your video and will certainly give the _Valencia Method_ a go. Turmeric happens to be the main spice in one my two favorite soups, *soto;* the other being tomato soup.

I didn't peel the skin like you did, as I felt it 'll waist lot of tumeric. Instead I scraped the tumeric after washing, like how we clean the ginger. After drying with paper towels I cut the tumeric small like you did and dryed them. This came out well.Thanks.

Hi, I liked your presentation but I have a little info may make peeling turmeric that you haven't mentioned in this video. Peel turmeric the same way you peel ginger, with a teaspoon. It is so easy to peel with a teaspoon and no risk of cutting yourself. Works a treat and I have just this morning peeled about a kilo of my homegrown turmeric and will now dry it using your method.

I buy 4 lb. jars of raw honey from people that live up behind my house... I then split it between two jars about 3/4 full and with the remaining quarter I fill one with raw ginger and one with raw turmeric (organic of course). I then put it in a smoothie cup to grind.... I then refrigerate it and it keeps for weeks until it's gone and I do use these honeys in everything... Don't forget to add pepper to your turmeric dishes to help with absorption into your body.

Wow this was great! Thank you so much for going to all the trouble to compare the these methods. I am starting to grow turmeric on a small scale and hoping to expand, this is a great way to add year round value to the crop. Do you think the skin on method would be still attractive enough for people to buy if sold at markets?
@Selfsufficientme
@Selfsufficientme 6 лет назад
Thanks Stevo! Yes I do think turmeric with the skin on would be a good seller at the markets and I would "pitch it" like this... Organic turmeric, made from unpeeled rhizomes to ensure maximum goodness and more fibre for a healthier powder overall. I'd buy it! Honestly, (you're right) this video took a great effort to make (many hours) and although these types of food making vids typically don't do too well as far as views go it's still worth it because like I said there's a lot of misinformation or incomplete info online about making turmeric powder and I just wanted to make it easier for those who are seeking these questions and answers. Cheers :)

Thanks for the interesting video. Maybe I missed it but why peel it if you want to go raw? The simplest of all would be to slice the raw tuber/root with the skin on, dry, grind. My guess is that the skin has many nutrients that the rest of the thing doesn't.

Thanks for all this information, interesting. If it will ever happen to me to have to much turmeric, I might try it, usually when I have brought more than I need I just slice it an put it in the freezer in a ziplock bag. Have not had success growing it (only tried twice), I have the impression the "fresh" turmeric here in the stores (even the organic one) is kind of dead.

I add a 1/4 teaspoon when making chili-con-carne, spaghetti sauce & curries (for extra flavour and yellow) , add a little to ground coffee when brewing and add some to date and peanut balls. I also add some to my Greek Yoghurt mix, I puree unsweetened pineapple with 1/4 teaspoon turmeric before adding it to a litre of Greek yoghurt and 1/4 cup of desiccated coconut. Gives it a nice colour and flavour, especially when served with blueberries.
