I'm not sure why he does it in this track, it might be because of the cpu-usage of the delay, idk.. Anyhow, me myself flattens alot of tracks in ableton just because I love the way ableton handles audio signals. For instance, whenever I want a really unique-sounding melody or pad I flatten the midi-track, and then transpose the audio while using ableton's warp-mode in beats/transients, and then I flatten it once more and transpose it back to it's original pitch. It gives the normal-sounding melody such unique little details which you couldn't make up yourself!! I think skrillex and flume both use simular methods when they're looking for that little extra flavor in their sounds! Hopefully my comment makes some sense to you, the point of it all is really me trying to explain the freedom of audio, you can just mess around with it all day and gett totally different effects from a single sound
