This video was helpful. I used it to make stripes on a shirt of an illustrated character, the wavy lines gave the shirt some depth and saved a ton of time if I had to draw the waves with pen tool then tweak. I can also see the bonus tip you mentioned being useful too although I don't have a specific use case at the moment but sure I'll come across one soon. Thanks for posting; much appreciated.

How do I select only a portion of the wavy line. Is there a way to crop the length of the line without losing the wavy effect as well as the profile effect?

Direct select tool (hotkey A). You can also use the plus or minus pen tools to add or subtract anchor points.

how to clip mask these lines, can anyone help?

Like use them as a clipping mask? Select them and go to pathfinder. Click the hamburger icon and select make compound path (or shape, I forget which). Then you can use it as a clipping mask the normal way by placing it above the other object and right-clicking it, selecting the mask option.
