In this video, I do an experiment by making my own fairing compound from polyester resin, glass bubbles or microspheres, cabosil, and surfacing wax. I also try my hand at using PVA for the first time.

Gelcoat with q-cells and wax is a fantastic fairing compound. The ratio for a creamy peanut butter paste is 1 part gelcoat to 4-5 parts q-cells...2% wax, catalyze as you always do.

Ok im restoring a 88 bayliner and cant get Andy to answer my questions because he has to many subscribers lol so look up 88 bayliner 2150 transom and youll find lots of my short vids made by me to keep a record for me lol.Not looking for subscribers but this vid is already covering some of my untested ideas.thanks

Do a layer of chop strand Matt over the 1708 weave to get a smoother easier to finish surface

If i make thickened resin ie peanut butter with cabosil i have no cure issues.I think your microspheres are having an effect as well.but to be safe i still plan to add air inhibitors

If your using a spray gun for pva will acetone clean the spray gun or is it water only

Thanks for the video! I'm seeking for advice in repairing gelcoat chips on the hull below and above waterline. I know that there are tons of instructions in "Internets", but may be you've done this work already and can share some tips and tricks? I've bought '02 Finnmaster 6100 with some cosmetic problems but never worked with gelcoat.

Frisco boater has a vid on how to turn gelcoat into gelcoat paste.Basically you mix it with cabosil.no extra fiber.If its just a chip I wouldnt be conserned with below the waterline but duratech high gloss will be my go to aditive for spraying below the waterline on my boat.
