Remove the aluminum foil
Step 3: Remove the outer covering of the core using stripper
Step 4: Solder the sheild and the core
Step 5: Solder the tip and the ring of the connector
Use the stripped off outer cover on the core
Step 7: Soldering the core and the shield on the connector
Step 8: Crimp the connector
Step 9: Test the cable
MX RCA or Composite cables are for serious home theater enthusiasts. MX Precision audio cables offer accurate audiophile sound reproduction. MX Premier video digital cables deliver superior resolution, clarity and color balance.
MX signal path utilizes pure silver plating on all conductor and shielding to allow the highest quality signal transfer and to provide maximum protection against EMI and RFI. MX filter technology provides advanced protection against noise and interference in a unique adjustable design.24k gold plated MX connector resist corrosion and ensure a perfect connection with a simple twist of the connector. MX RCA cable can be used to connect a variety of audio and video devices such as televisions, satellite or cable receivers, VCRs, game console and Home Theater systems.
What is a RCA connector and what is it used for?
The RCA is the professional solution for common Phono or RCA connectors. RCAs are used for HiFi-applications like stereos, TV-sets, video recorders, beamers etc. The spring loaded ground contact of the RCA prevents pop noises when connecting under load. RCA is sold in pairs which are marked red / black.

I fixed my gold plated Hosa cables, great connectors, but they stripped off both the inner and outer insulation at the factory, so eventually they started touching on the inside, it was a 5 minute fix and I shrink wrapped it and electrical taped the crap out of it for strain relief, these cables go to about 100 shows a year :) Thank you so much, I know your just trying to help and its working!!!

Step 6? Tip: don't use the insulation from the outer jacket. Use heat shrink as it won't move around and takes up less space, making it easier to work with RG-59. Also, if you find it difficult using RG-59 cable (coax) due to the bulkiness don't feel like you are stuck. Any OAS (over all shielded) wire (e.g. 18AWG 2C OAS) will work, however RG-59 will provide a higher fidelity sound and as it is less susceptible to EMI.

@baseer1992 The RCA cable used here is a coaxial cable. It is not a CATx Cable. If you use a single RCA Cable, you can use that cable for video. But if u make a 2 RCA Cable you can use that for analog audio. Similarly, you can use digital coaxial cable which can be used for audio or video. Thank you!

I'm trying to replace/upgrade the cables on my Atari 2600s. I was wondering what might be the best cable and connectors for it an would it work if one end was rca and the other a coax f connector? Thank you ahead of time.

What kind of flux did you use to solder? I'v NEVER gotten coaxial to tin without using extremely strong and corrosive acid based flux. I have to make sure every bit of the flux is removed or it corrodes everything quickly. Is your wire Aluminum or something else? I know my cable is aluminum sheathed with a copper core and I'v never seen the sheathe solder so easily.
@iamDavidduh

I'm not 100% on this, but I used wire the had the same appearance like that before in a 1000w subwoofer setup in my car. It was oxygen free copper, and that's what I would guess by just observation.

David Lawrence Ah, copper. Solder's best friend. Guess it must be the really good kind of coax, not just the mid range or el-cheapo stuff.

Horrible demonstration on soldering. You do not use a soldering iron like a paint brush....You must heat the metal up to the same temperature which the solder will melt. Guarantee there will be some cold solder joints along the way on these cables. Hold that iron on the wired and connectors longer....

I have been looking at "how to solder RCA connectors" and they all seem to heat up the solder instead of the metal. I had always heard, you should heat the metal, and let that melt the solder. I am a bit confused as to why none of the videos show that...
@52wml
@52wml 6 лет назад
I believe the answer to that question is due to the fact that most people do not know how to properly solder an electrical connection. I was a D.O.D. Cat C soldering instructor for many years so I'll give you a very basic version on how to properly solder and electrical connection. First apply a small amount of flux to the wire and tin the wire. Then apply a small amount of flux to the connector, you then apply a small amount of solder to the tip of the soldering iron and touch it to the connector to create a heat bridge between the soldering tip and the connector you want to solder to. Once both the wire and connector are to the proper temp you can add a small amount of solder to both the wire and connector. Remove the soldering iron and allow the connection to cool, do not force cool the solder joint as this could produce a cold solder joint. One suggestion for producing a good solder connection is to use what is called eutectic solder, this solder both melts and solidifies at the same temp reducing the chances of a cold solder joint due to any movement induced into the solder joint.

I'm more concerned over the fact that they stripped the shielding back like an inch. What a great way to introduce interference. You want to keep the shield all the way up to the insulator termination. But the soldering was pretty terrible too.

@grandpixel
@grandpixel 8 лет назад
Why are you soldering the shield to the connector. There is a ground conductor inside. On your picture, you wired the ground and positive together. Maybe it "works" but poor way to do it.
@NunkaOlvidar
@NunkaOlvidar 7 лет назад
Coaxial cable have not 2 wires together, just one in the center and the shield, the picture of 2:59 have it, but not the cable used here.
