This is much appreciated. I shall try this to make frayed silk ribbon too. And also the storage idea. Wooden cotton reels are expensive to buy but an old wooden curtain pole or dowel cut down into short lengths is a great idea to roll the ribbon onto. Thank you.

Can I use a sock for this?

It might be difficult with how stretchy sock material is. If you do it let me know! 💗 Elizabeth

Hi! How can we make the edges neat without fire? Tried it but it turned black.

This ribbon is just a quick way to make an easy ribbon, it has rough edges. You could finish the edges by sewing a stitch. Let me know what you come up with! Elizabeth

Will this work With velvet?
@AWellPurposedWoman

Hi there, I don’t think velvet will tear like this, and is more stretchy. But you could definitely cut it into strips. Let me know if you try it. 💗 Elizabeth

Yes but only with cotton or silk velvet. Does not work with stretch velvet or any stretch fabric.

I am super confused here. You said that you should rip the fabric perpendicular to the salvaged end. From my understanding, perpendicular means a straight line that intersects with another straight line forming right angles (90 degrees). So if you are tearing the fabric perpendicular to the salvaged end, you would be tearing the fabric across the salvaged end. Maybe you meant to say it works best if you are tearing the fabric parallel to the salvages end 🤷

Hi Amber! Sorry for any confusion. When ripping. Make cuts on the selvage ends and then tear up from the cuts. It would be a 90 degree angle from the selvage ends. My friend Marilla explains how to tear fabric in this nursing cover video that might do a better job of explaining it: awellpurposedwoman.com/how-to-make-a-nursing-scarf/. Let me know if you still have questions! 💗

Beautiful, but what about the people who do not know what a "salvage end" IS? :) Thanks!
@AWellPurposedWoman
@AWellPurposedWoman 7 месяцев назад
That is a great point! It’s basically the edge that is created to keep the fabric from unraveling. It’s a helpful point of reference but might be confusing. Thanks for letting me know. 💗 Elizabeth

Selvage end is the end that has a finished edge .

What about the edges?

This is more of an unfinished look. If wanted you could always sew a seam to finish the edges. Elizabeth
