After listening to my bf tell me he’s watched all your videos and talking nonstop about making these brushguard jigs, I thought I would watch the video too so I could help him. Spent 2 hours in the garage, glass of whiskey, floss, jigs, crazy glue and chubby tails - we made 30+ jigs. Thanks for giving us a fun night of making jigs, drinking whiskey and chatting the whole time!!!
I've been fishing about 43 years now. And it's my passion in life. And I've watched maybe 12 of your videos so far. I've learned so many tips and helpful information from you already in 12 videos than I've learned on my own in the past 30 years. The dental floss superglue crappie jig tip is one of the best things I've used ever in crappie fishing. I bet I only go through a tenth of the number of jig bodies that I used to go through. Thank you very much for sharing your fishing techniques. It's been a really great learning experience for me. I thought at 50 years old that I knew it all for the way I fish. But its great to learn new techniques that really help. Keep up the great information and videos sir.
I know you don't know me Richard, but i have always really enjoyed your videos. And I have been going through a hard time and going through a bad depression, like allot of veterans do. But fishing is everything to me and watching your videos helps me take my mind off of the darkness.
If not for our veterans, we would not be enjoying the sport that is 2nd to none, or the comfortable, safe lifestyle in which we live. Thank you sir and all the veterans . Bless yall.
Best fishing channel on RU-vid by far......the outdoor channel should pick Richard Gene up.....with his knowledge of fishing and endearing personality he would be a huge hit no doubt.
That's an awesome DIY trick Machine. After watching you dock skip one of these and reading all the comments for you to show how you rig it, this was a great tutorial. You are the Fishing Machine!
richard I watch everything you make. I backtrack older vids, rewatch and on and on.. thanks for all the time and effort you invest into others man. Wooohhhhhhweee
Mr. Gene , you are the GOAT !!!!!! I really appreciate your advice and videos. I'm a 3rd generation commercial fisherman from Mo. Now that I'm disabled I want to spend my time with a rod and reel catching brim, crappie and catfish. Your videos are the best I've ever seen. Thank you.
Mr. Gene I’ve learned so much from watching you. Thank you again for a great tip. I fish a lot of brush pile and docks so this would work perfect. Tight lines!
Dude -- you are a natural. It's like people can learn to play a guitar and there are people born to play a guitar. You were born to fish. You are the real deal.
Watched this video a few years ago; I needed a review, so I looked it up and watched again...! Thanks for all the good info you share! Let's Go, Brandon! WWG1WGA
Nice tip RG! One suggestion I'd make is to nip a little notch in the jig body to hold the mono in the proper position before gluing the body a put a drop of th gel superglue in the notch after the body is in place to hold the mono in alignment with the hook point. Might even use two mono pieces and split the hook point.
Getting ready to go back to Minnesota, for the first time in 35years we caught so many crappie and bass and even Northern Northern pike on these jigs, Mister twister was the best
Brother Richard, I just love the fact that you share your knowledge with us to help us be better fisherman. I have learned so much from you. Thank you!
You are friggin awesome my man. These kinda of DIY projects are exactly what I need to get me through the cold winter months. Thank you, Richard Gene! Wooooo!
thank you for the awesome videos , i just retired, and want start crappie fishing again. it has been a few years, but moma says she wants some good o'l crappie. what Moma wants MOMA gets!! by the way when you gave that older gentleman the fish in an earlier video, that absolutley touched our hearts . MR. Gene it is fishermen such as you that give this sport the great name it deserves. God bless you, and Moma sue both. HAPPY FISHING!!
The machine has taught me so much! I ain't got no boat up here in Ohio an I always struggled to catch a mess of crappie..this week I went 3 time an caught a whole bunch of nice crappie ertime..my bro in laws can't find em or catch em an they get irritated as all git out to see my basket of crappie! Thanks Richard
You are the crappie king I have learned so much in watching your videos. Since I started watching I have increased my catch ratio by 10 fold and I catch larger crappie than ever before
I'm built like you brotha. For some reason I've been at the river all my life , and will be the rest of it. I live up here in Michigan. A whole different ballgame weather wise when it comes to the when and where of things. But I've used your advice so many times while I'm crappie fishing and regardless of seasonal difference your knowledge on what depth to fish at, is priceless man. Everyday last summer before I went to a new spot , I'd watch a random video of yours and take the best tactic you used to heart. Somehow implement it into what I do when nothing else is working. Casting and reeling a jig with bobber I constantly gotta tell myself to let it fall, 5 inches at a time, how much is each rotation of my reel taking in line? Thanks for all you do because fishing ain't a hobby for me. It's more like a lifeline and that's the truth. I've caught more walleye than you could shake a stick at, and yellow perch pike gills salmon trout you name it. Crappie is the most worthy adversary in my opinion . Alot goes into it from the last years experiences. Takes a long time to accumulate a good outline for crappie fishing any spot anytime. Thank you for sharing all the tips most fisherman keep under there hats.i don't wanna go the grace without teaching what I know to my kids and i have a hard time just showing them lol. Glad you showed up one day when I searched for some good methods because I found a great fisherman !!
I love catching crappie, eat some every now and then. But them walleye are my favorite to eat only second to striper!!!!! I eat some kind of fish at least 3xs a week!!!! Lot of striper walleye catfish crappie and white perch!!! Only take what I need to feed me and the family!!! Go fishin when you can cuz it's goooood fer ya!!!! Wooooo
One view and I already want to be friends with this guy. Can't wait to try this out, thanks very much, sir! I learned something, and I laughed, can't beat that!
Thank you for the gift of smiles! Just want you to know I think you are really well spoken. You know what you want to say and don’t hmm and haw about it! Keep up the great work!!!
I just ordered 100 1/16th and 100 1/32nd collarless jigs and it look like I'm gonna be busy getting ready for ice out! Thanks for this Mr Gene. Happy Fishing!
You have the best fishing videos, you are a natural teacher and you have an obvious love for this sport that is second to none. Videos on basic riggings and other things that you guys who are very accomplished and are second nature to you are appreciated by us beginners. Things that you are second nature to you are treasures to us. God Bless And tight lines : )
I tie hair jigs for walleye/ small mouth fishing and I like the idea of the dental floss for the start on your hook. I never thought about that so thank you very much for sharering your knowledge with all of us.KEEP THE FAITH FORTHE BEST IS TO COME.!
Thanks again Richard! I lost several jigs yesterday and thought..man I wonder if Richard Gene has a video how to make a weedless one! First fish I caught yesterday I said, "Wooo! " in your honor! Plan to make it a regular thing
Tip...superglue is anaerobic, it will set instantly in the absence of oxygen. When you coat your floss, instead of having to wait 4 or 5 minutes for it to dry try covering it with baking soda. it will set up harder too
Geno I'm glad you show me how you make these. I watched you using them the other day and you said you make with that 40lb line thanks so much I'm going fishing cause it's good fer me!
Hey! Wuuuu! Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us! I just found your channel and cannot wait to get on the water to try some of the things I've learned from you watching! God bless you Richard Gene!!
Great channel, great video. I made some jigs like this and then put them to the test. Was out bank fishing, saw some trees just under the surface and threw all in it. Never lost a jig.
This is one of the best gear tips I have seen in a long time. I will definitely give this a try, I have missed way too many fish with those stiff commercial "weedless" jigs Thanks for the info, keep it coming. God Bless.
Helpful tip making these jigs. if you are all thumbs and have shaky hands like me, using a pair of hemostats clamped to the hook and the line far below the barb while you wind the dental floss WILL be a lifesaver! 🙂
You go Fishing Machine, thanks for showing your version of the weedless jig. Keep on shining my friend, hope you didn't get too many knots on your head!
Thanks for the detailed demonstration. You give out information that other professional grade fishermen won't share. The only request I have is to use a close-up lens and a dark background next time. Thanks again.
Awesome idea RG! I got to get to my workshop and build me one of those awesome weedless crappie jigs. I am going to try this trick on one of my trout flies.
Brother Richard , for home made weedless lures may I suggest working with the spring from an ink pen . Any way you wanna fiddle with it is fine , happy fishing sir. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Richard Gene...God bless you sir! That was an awesome DIY modification to a crappie jig that I will definitely attempt to mimic. You and Mama Sue have a blessed one and maintain your "social closeness"...LOL! God bless...
I used 50 lb test Richard and tied me up about 15 in different weights. Can’t add a photo here or I would show you. I tie lot of my own jigs and the fly tying rig is awesome for this brother. You can get a decent one for around $70.00 on eBay. I would highly recommend it for tying the thread on your jigs. Love your videos my friend.
Actually there are a couple of tying vises for $20 or so that would ease that job Do you happen to have a vid on your reccommendation for a boat and motor and setup?
