I wore a favorite Amore wig for a long time and it has a small frayed spot. I used clear nail polish, like we baby boomers used to use on our pantyhose when we had a run 😊. It was just one small fray, but it stopped it and there is no damage from the polish on the hair and I can’t feel it at all. Just my solution, and it might not work depending on the amount of fraying, but in my case, it worked very well.

Thanks for the idea! Have you had any promise with the polish looking shiny?

All of my lace fronted wigs fray, some worse than others! I do exactly the same as you do and have had no issues. ‘It stays ‘ is good but difficult to get in UK. I have now switched to Antoni Parcelli sock glue, they use in Irish dancing. It is fantastic, as good and for me even better. It was recommended so word of mouth paid off. I cut and trim lace and agree that gluing down holds it in place well. Sadly my fraying is on the noticeable side so when I’ve tried everything I have to throw wig away and buy another! Your honesty in critiques is second to none, thank you and I will continue with you and your comments. I’ve been wearing the same style, same colour for almost 2 years and as yet nothing has rocked my boat, hopefully when something catches my eye you will have done a review, look forward to that immensely.

I was thinking about Fray Check, something I use in my sewing to stop the fabric from fraying. But you've tried a similar product. It Stays is an amazing product, not only easy to use and easy to remove. Thank you Denise for this valuable video.

The product for fabric to stop fraying is called "Fray Check" Fabulous stuff. I use it all the time, but haven't had the need on my wigs yet.

@@heywigsister I bought Mila $434 it came with a frayed lace of course it didn't come to me that bad, but I can see after a few wears it will be and had actually been used and thinned out before I got it from WS1 it was a devastating transaction that I hope never happens again I am looking for another retailer now no one should sale used wigs for the price of a new one. If anyone knows of a trustworthy site let me know. Thanks for the video Denise love watching your reviews I just bought tape for it not knowing what to do about it and found the comment that said Fray check is good awesome glad they suggested your video. How is it doing today? Did it help?

I ordered a Belle Tress Alpha Blend and I believe it came frayed. I posted about it in the wig group for where I purchased it and unfortunately for me it was right at the front of the part and No one was able to hep me and it frayed so much chunks of hair began falling out. It was on clearance and I now am gunshot to purchasing from that wig shop and ever getting another Belle Tress. IT feels like wasted so much money on that wig. I didn’t have it stays at the time. Thank you for this video helps me know what to try in the future. Especially since I love my it stays now.

That is such a bummer! I just hate it when damaged clearance items make it past inspection. That has happened to me before... I know mistakes happen but it is so disappointing.

Thank you Denise, It Stays is awesome! In my experience too, trimming doesn't cause fraying. The only lace that frayed is one I have not trimmed.

I have not been brave enough to trim lace, I did thinned wigs, I have cut the back of one a tiny bit and yesterday I trimmed bangs on my new Codi, with a fast beating heart I did it, slowly but surely, the only thing I would love to see know was how to shorten a wig on the sides, my Codi seats on my shoulders, those long pieces at the front are way too long for me since I am, sadly, only 5 feet with a small face and small head thy are too long and I would love, love if someone showed me how to trim them just a bit...maybe a future video Denise?...the It Stays works like magic on me because my wigs just slip forward ( go figure ), thanks for a great video, stay well.

I have used Scar Away clear silicone tape. It’s very thin. You need a pair of sharp scissors and a little patience. Works very well.

Thanks, Denise. You are always a big help! Crazy question: do you think clear nail polish would work to stop the fray? Back in the day, we used it to stop runs in our pantyhose. Lol. Blessings and hugs Shelly
@heywigsister
@heywigsister 2 года назад
I don't think that's a crazy question at all! I think that the lace is too stiff for nail polish to do much so my guess is that it wouldn't really help. Panty hose are just so much softer and a finer mesh so the nail polish fills in and bonds in a way it wouldn't with lace on a wig.

You always have good practical information and suggestions. I was interested to note that you did not talk of using pinking shears to trim the lace on your wigs. I've heard other reviewers warn against using anything but pinking shears. What are your thoughts? I'm wanting to trim the lace just a tiny bit on a couple of wigs, but will hold off until I hear your opinion. Keep up the good work! Blessings.

I am so torn about this one... I actually did do a video about trimming the lace and I demonstrate with pinking shears. I cut the lace on my wigs often and so far have always used pinking shears, but lately I have seen some videos and had a few people tell me that pinking shears compromise the integrity of the lace. I have determined that it depends on the kind of lace being used. I still prefer to use pinking shears on most ready to wear wigs since that is what Jon Renau recommends, but if the lace is softer (like what is used on human hair wigs often) then I use regular scissors. Here is the video I did: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nUcYtlWz1sc.html

I just used It Stays for the first time today! It’s amazing. I can see how it would be perfect for a frayed area. Thanks Denise! Do you still use a wig grip, or just the It Stays? My wig grip slipped , but the wig never moved. Do I dare go without the wig grip?

It’s strange the way the algorithm works. I want to see human hair wig reviews and it’s like RU-vid doesn’t want to show me them, they’re hard to find. Thanks for your helpful tips.

I agree, so frustrating... sometimes when I search for one of my reviews by putting in my name AND the name of the wig that is in the title I can't find it until I scroll through like 20 videos... what the heck. So glad you found the tip helpful!

Do you think the fraying causes the hair to mess up, I feel like the hair “lays” differently now that it is frayed, or am I crazy?

I would never use fray stop on a wig. I’ve never had fraying but if I did I would be very unhappy. I have Belle Tress Caliente and zero frizz. It looks like a flaw.

I wonder if clear nail polish would work. Tiny bit on the edge.

Maybe, but I would think that it would dry hard and show a little. I remember doing that with pantyhose back in the day and while it did stop the fray, that section was always hard and sometimes a little cloudy.

Does "It Stays" build up on the lace after putting it on after several wears?
@heywigsister

No, I don't have any trouble with that... it removes so easily with water. I take a wet wash cloth and gently remove any stickiness that I feel and it is good to go.
