Thanks for the great video! One question though - lets say I have 4 users in a group. When we create a mapped drive using the GPO, 4 different drives will be created for each user or just one?

It is possible to sue NAS shared folder. Second whatever permission you are assigning on the shared folder will be apply on the end user.

Hi. When decommisioning of old file server, we map network drive to a new file server file share. And on many computers mapped disk showed error, was not able to remap. Can you tell, how to properly set gpo settings, so that this change works well on all computers - old mapped drive is removed and is set new again?
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast Год назад
For that you can use group policy preferences with replace option. Replace option will delete the old map network drive and recreate a new one with specified settings. You also have another option name update: This will not delete the existing drive but it will only modifies the mapped drive with the new settings.

does the action "delete" means it will delete the drive if it maps? It does NOT mean it will delete folders and files in the network/shared map drive? Thanks!
@MSFTWebCast

"Delete" action will remove the mapped drive from client computer. It just like "net use * /delete" command.

@LandscapeInMotion
@LandscapeInMotion 3 года назад
thanks - but seems your doing this drive mapping twice. If you have already setup item level target with AD Group "HR USERS", why do you also need to link the GPO to the OU "HR"?
@asbestinuS
@asbestinuS 3 года назад
You always have to link a GPO to something. Using HR OU is the cleanest way. Think about the administration of hundreds of GPOs. You definitely want to keep it sorted. In this case you could also link the GPO to mylab.local, or MUMBAI - as long as the actual user is in a lower OU: mylab.local > MUMBAI > HR. If you linked the GPO to mylab.local > MUMBAI > TECH the GPO obviously wouldn't work because the TECH OU doesn't involve the actual user object.
@asbestinuS
@asbestinuS 3 года назад
@@avoosscorp1175 So apparently the way you think it should work is not the correct way. What are you saying? Just create a new OU and drag them users in this one. If you can't group them by function, don't. Group them by room number, group them by location, group them by anything else then, instead. What ever suits your company the best. Simple as that. You can of course link the GPO to the whole domain and use WMI filtering functions to decide for which users or groups or site or what ever else this GPO is relevant. But have fun diagnosing errors or unecpected behaviour ;)
@asbestinuS
@asbestinuS 3 года назад
@@avoosscorp1175 Well I hope Trump won't be re-elected because he's a racist piece of shit who will lead this country in ruin. Anyway, mapping network drives via GPO is the easiest thing. I would even offer a teamviewer session, just for you to help you out.

what is the difference between update and create?
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 5 лет назад
Create: If a map drive does not already exist, it will be created. If it is already exists, then nothing will happen. Update: If map drive does not exist, it will be created. If it is already exist, then This Action modifies the settings of an existing mapped drive. In short it will overwrite existing settings.

PLEASE HELP.....when i map network drive GPO on OU - (like just users in that OU) it works fine with no issue, but when I target the security group instead users...no matter what I do it doesn't work, what to do?
@MSFTWebCast
@MSFTWebCast 2 года назад
If you have followed all the steps mentioned in this video then I dont think there should be any problem. Can you confirm that the NTFS permission is configured properly on Share Folder and All the Security group is stored in same OU also make sure that all the required users are member of the group which you use in group policy preferences. If you still get an error then try using security filtering for GPO instead of group policy preferences.

Hello I have an issue im trying to setup a GPO that will copy a simple file to clients however its not working for some reason. What I have done is: Create GPO under Users OU Edit GPO -> User Config -> Pref. -> Files Set: Source file: C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\image.jpeg (Pictures folder is shared with everyone, domain users and domain computers) Destionation: %CommonDesktoDir%\Myfolder\image.jpeg Also have attempted %Desktopdir%\Myfolder\image.jpeg %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Myfolder\image.jpeg But its not working, this is a test bench environment so its not critical its all for learning purposes. P.s. for some reason when i login as a created user and click for example CMD run as admin i do not get prompted it just continues as a regular user and have access denied to check gpresult /r /scope computer Cheers!

You need to use UNC path of shared folder in source location. Else it will try to locate the file on local computer.
@sale666
@sale666 4 года назад
@@MSFTWebCast thanks for your fast reply, so if i understood well the server will assume the file is on the client computer if i use the c:\ instead of UNC? So it should look like this as source: \\supermicro1\c$\Users\Administrator\Pictures\wallpeper.jpeg This should be correct?
