Complementary color combos are pure contrast which makes them pretty loud and clashy and because of that they are actually *difficult* to combine in an outfit.. So when pulling them off, try to remember the ratio between them as follows - purple/yellow (3:1), blue/orange (2:1), and green/red (1:1)

Thanks for the informative video. I was thinking of wearing a plain golden tie with my Navy blue suit & sky blue shirts underneath. Will it be okay? Or will the tie color be too much flashy? My fiance is gonna wear a golden outfit. So she recommended this tie color. But I'm confused.

That a busted ass color wheel. Blue's complimentary color is orange, purple = yellow, green = red. The reason why complimentary colors work because when one mixes them together they neutralize each other and create a neutral color. The color wheel you showed is broken and mixed all over the place. For complimentary color combinations to work one has to look at the varying values of the fabric, but that is a more in depth topic. Black and white are not technically colors. "Color" commonly refers to hue (blue, green, yellow, etc) that make up the color wheel. Black and white are values containing no hue. So, black and white are *NOT* complimentary.

The thing is, it's not as simple as looking at the color wheel. Everyone knows that certain colors look good together, but translating that into a balanced outfit is a whole different question. For example, putting together an outfit of various shades of red will look stupid. Indeed, blue is probably the only color on the wheel that you can pull it off with. (Brown and gray obviously work, but they're not on the wheel.) And yes, everyone knows blue and yellow look great together, but throwing on a bright yellow cardigan under your navy suit is probably a bad idea (whereas a mustard knit tie is fantastic). Maybe you could do a video where you take a group of items in some basic, reliable color combinations and experiment with different ways of putting them together, showing what works and what doesn't. (Blue suit and burgundy tie, yes. Burgundy suit and blue tie, nope!) Because the big challenge is not which colors to combine, it is which garments should be colored and how much neutral colors do you need to balance a loud piece.

To be picky, black and white by definition aren't colors, and they are not on the color wheel. They are, however, contrasts, which is why they look good together.
