Welcome back to part 2, in this video I cover how the stop micro, which is a variation of the hit and run, but it has a couple different properties that makes it better in some situations, and worse in others.
Dude, this is brilliant. I've used stop micro with galleys, but mostly because I thought it could cut down the "re-load" time. I've never seen this technique actually fleshed out on a stream or VOD. Your explanation is really well done and easy to understand. Great job including the knights to show situational effectiveness versus high HP units. - Granny
Great video Hera!! It would have been nice if you had mentioned that stop micro is the best way of micro ranged units with high DPS like the conqs and arambais. From personal experience, before when I just used hit and run micro with conqs, I always killed less knights and had no time to focus on eco, and other stuff. But ever since I started using stop micro with conqs, I was able to multitask, and have better fights.
Hey that's a great point you make, I'm trying to make these vids as generic as possible to help in all situations, so it's natural I don't cover everything.
Hey Hera just ran across your channel and have been watching some of your videos. As a fellow Canadian that just started playing aoe You do a great job at explaining things really well. Keep up the good work 👍
No problem at all. Give credit where it’s due. It’s refreshing to see a video show the theory behind something and the practical application of it. Build orders can be incredibly confusing but I’m going to keep watching these because they really do clarify things. I just downloaded voobly so hoping I get to spec some high level games and with your videos I might actually understand what’s going on a bit lol. Keep up the great work on the pro scene and keep kicking butt!

@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 Just stumbled upon this answer and I've got to say that you are incredibly pedagogical! Your 'Beginner to 2k' guides are just packed with useful information presented in a manner that's very easy to follow. The way you explain your conclusions and thought processes is probably the most valuable way of teaching/learning AoE in-depth. Thanks for all the content!
The problem with micro in large numbers is overkill that is when a lot of your arrows hit the dead corpse of the enemy unit the stop micro allows you to reduce that by shooting at several units at once.
Would you suggest using the staggered formation when hitting and running against knights, or even the onagers? Seems like they would be less likely to die to individual cavalry hits or splash from onagers.
Kinda of a old comment but I will tell you that as much as staggered is good vs mangonels is actually helping the knight player because it's easier to sorround your units if they are spreaded out, while if they are crunched together the knights will only hit a few at a time. Against area damage units tho you are right
How do you know when to press the stop botton? You have to press it very close to their reload time, not too early but not too late. Right? But how can you find the right time? Just practice?
You should check out other RTS games, they all play like this because back in the 90s warcraft 2 really set the tone for all future rts games when it comes macro and micro
