I didn’t expect learning to start mixing was as confusing as I expected because it was hard to know where to start. This video helped me so much on understanding how plugins work with each other and the workflow that I need to be doing this video was a major help and I’ve been re watching it for a couple weeks while I’m learning Preciate you a lot 💙
Love the effort that you've been putting on for both the track and this tutorial, this video is the most comprehensively explained mixing go-through tutorial I've ever seen, keep up the good work man!
guys his template is legit the best template i have tried an it has the sound i was looking for especially for hip hop with this template i mix the vocals so fast its crazy..
Super DOPE video tutorial on mixing vocals over a 2 track beat. Thank you man for your input, I learned a lot, but I would've loved to see what you did on these little automations on the Delay Aux track. I am not refering to the on/off delay automations, but rather the litte dots on the Delay aux track itself. But anyway, thank you man, again a DOPE video tutorial! Peace to yall
@@MadRezStudios hey JCruz my name Rey Rey I came across ur website looking for presets an I purchased a vocal preset about an hour ago I came to realize ur located in Austin Texas im not far im about 15 mins from Austin an wanted to see id instead of waiting for my pack could I maybe just go pick it up from u or whoever u have working for u ?
@@MadRezStudios are your plugins in the template setup to activate when you put a file on a track? Just wondering because you know the latency is bad trying to record with a bunch of live effects already in the session.
7 mins in and I'm subscribed, I'm a beginner and the way you teach and explain works great for me, so I know that I'll learn from any of your vids as well
I'm teaching myself how to edit, mix and master everything on my own and I use a different software and have watched all the tutorials on my software Presonus studio pro 5 and this is still helpful with some tips.
Really loved the way you explain... Can you make a detailed video on how to work on the ratio, attack and release while working on different vocal styles and how it effects the transients and clarity? (something I struggle with)
bruh this was a great video! please keep dropping content. I found the dubs to be exactly what I was missing in my sound, along with the parallel compression.
Mad Rez?? More like God Rez! I love your mix especially on the chorus. Everything sounds so seamless from the Haas effect, the autotune, the panning and more. I checked out your catalog of mixes on your page and everything is a banger. Ive been working on tracks and I like to give it a couple days from listening to refresh my ears to hear the song in its truest form. Once I do I conclude its not good enough hence no tracks on my page. Ive always been afraid to get a professional engineer to mix/master my tracks due to pricing but I may have to make an investment with you one time in the future just to see! Thanks J for the dope video
Loved it, only critic here. You disable the plugins and enable while it's not playing the same part it makes it hard to really deeply here the difference. Since it's not the same part that we hear to listen to the difference. Still awesome tutorial :)
Good call, I agree with you on this one 100% that does really help to see the before and after easier. I will do that from now on. Thanks for your feedback!
I have a question that I’m struggling to find an answer to or can’t ask it well enough so hope you understand me. What makes a good song regarding the vocals? How many vocals should I have in the song? Are harmonies necessary for a song and how to come up with one? How to change the flow from chorus to verse and vice versa? Can you make a song from scratch to show us these things? Many questions I apologize 🙏🏽 Hope you answer!
It is written in the Description of the Clip that the song was Directed/ Filmed/ Edited /Mixed/ and Mastered by You ....It's amazing that you have all these skills ... Please do a video on the Mastering of this Song
Thank you! Yes I also filmed and edited the music video for Johnny Badaxx as well. I love music and film. Check out my video on my channel for the mastering chain that I use in this template: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nAO390mhELs.html
Hey man great video. Im a beginner to mixing vocals and I was trying to understand how you do the routing for the parallel compression and the lead vox. What I see is that in the actual audio channel of the lead vocal it just the eq and compression but do you then route than audio track to a bus channel or an fx channel?
Ya man, each vocal audio track just has autotune and a slight lowend roll off near 100 Hz. Then those tracks (any considered a lead vocal) get routed to an Aux track that I use for my main processing for the lead vocal. Then from that Aux track, I send a copy of that signal to the parallel compression aux.
Thanks fam! I dont use or have a copy of cubase. I only mix in Pro Tools because Im a pro tools ninja! Other DAWs slow down my workflow because im not as comfortable with the hot keys and overall workflow of each one.
thanks for this awesome content ! I have one question, for the lead vox, the signal you used already have a treatment, no ? (eq, compression, auto tune...)
Thanks man! Yessir I covered that in video as well. Just a simple low cut filter up to about 100hz and then autotune. This artist records with autotune on to get the exact performance he is looking for.
Thank you so much. It helped me get a lot of clarity...subscribed. One request... Can you do some open mix/arrangement session or something for this track? I really loved the low end and that is something I always struggle to get.. Thick buttery smooth no clash. It will help a lot. Thanku
@@MadRezStudios I mean.. a go-through in the session how you mixed all elements... (my interested one is the treatment in low end) how you balanced bass and kick not fighting each other creating space as well as keeping that low end beef...
This is so helpful. Pls I'll be asking some questions as I follow. Recording vocals with autotune on, do you me adding it to inputs (intake) or the normal placement in mixing?
I just usually have autotune on the track that I am recording on so the artist can hear the autotune while they are perfomring. This doesnt actually record the sound of the autotune, it just lets us hear the autotune as they record. After we record we can always remove the autotune or adjust the setting from there.
I have a question bro. I have yamaha hs8s and I'm looking into the subwoofer but it's an extra 500. Do you think it's worth the subwoofer or if it's not really necessary. I do hip hop so any opinion would be greatly appreciated
I rock a sub if I can, but no its not needed. It does help to reference 808s and know how they will sound in a club/car with subs. I like to have a pair of headphones that I know and trust to reference low end as well.
Hey Bro do you do classes because I get lost when it's about frequencies and learning what is needed. I really need help and I have been mixing for years trying to make my stuff sound half as good.
I I wish to know how to use it properly in case of riverb and delay side chain and the compressor sidechain how to use more than one compressor and to get a good sounding mixing
Hey bro it's amazing but can you make a video how to mix vocals with only free/stock plugins it will help many artists like me who can't afford these plugins
All the effects or plugins you are using have mono and stereo types. So which one do you use please? Mono or Stereo? Assuming you put a Virtual Mix Rack. Is it supposed to be the stereo type or the Mono type?
That depends on if the source is mono or stereo and iif I want the output to be stereo. For example, I may have effects on a vocal but I dont want that vocal to sound stereo so Ill keep it all mono. Othertimes, I do want a wide stereo sound so Ill chose to apply stereo based effects. Its really all a per case basis.
Bro can u do im kind of need a littlw confirmation about what are the plugins that only go on the vocal insert where your vocals is at or should it be put on a sperate send track
@@paperzmusic I only apply processing on the actual audio track if its the only audio track that needs processing. I usually do all my processing on a separate aux track because I generally want to send multiple tracks to that one aux to have them all processed the same. Saves CPU power and keeps the vocals soundng consistent from part to part.
Another dope video! Love hoe you explain in detail, and give visuals, on the whole process. Very informative.. Do you have videos on mixing beats? If so, hook me up with the link. Up my G
So does every vocal track get routed to their own mixer track? For example if you have 3 dub tracks do they each get routed to a separate mixer track with similar processing? And what about sends, would you send multiple tracks to the same send?
That reverb has way too much tail on it and doesn't even sound all that mind blowing, I'm looking for a particular reverb that is going to blow me away, I currently use valhallaroom and that's the best I've heard, but I know that the pros have better, can you recommend any reverbs?
Hey man, i have a question about the fx sends. Do you send the fx channel of the voice to your main bus or do you send the lead vocal bus to the fx? Im quite confused about the routing
You would send the lead vocal bud to any fx sends like reverbs or delays. This way the fully processed vocals get sent to the effects and blended in. From there, the lead vocals plus all vocal effects sends get routed all to my main VOX bus.
@@MadRezStudios Ohh I see!! So after the lead vocal bus there is another MAIN Vocal Bus? What if I'm just mixing two vocal tracks? What I mean is like theres no double vocals or many background vocals. Its just one main vocal and some adlibs (background vocals)...
It will have a slightly phased out sound but honestly, I use this effect to push vocals in the background and not to compete with the lead vocal anyways so IF I chose to use the HAAS effect to get some stereo width, its mainly for a very background vocal. If I need that stereo information to translate on all systems, I will record 2 tracks panned hard left and right.
@CoMan Oficial pitch correction thats so light you dont notice it will make your vocals sound better even with old school stuff. Kendrick's, J Cole, Joey Badass all use it. Logic uses it on his boom bap stuff
@@gold_mine_beats The audio tracks themselves are mono, the lead vox bus is a stereo aux. So any processing on the audio track itself will be mono unless I am purposly trying to get a stero effect out of it using timebased effects
