Hey man I've been a mechanic for 30 years never even tried to do it myself till I saw you don't be so hard on yourself I'm sure you helped out thousands of people great job
I am a tire technician and I mount at least 1 tire a day using machinery or specially made tools to do it manually. But about once every 2 years I have to do it the hard way with 2 pry bars and sadly I forget the techniques that make it easier. So I go to RU-vid and what do you know I was simply taking to big of a bite. Corrected myself after watching this video. Now I have my feet up relaxing 😎
i don't doubt what you're saying, but you need to find a new shop. every tire machine i worked on uses plastic duckheads on the wheel so it doesnt scratch it, and unless you have runflat tires, you dont need to use a prybar at all. you can push the tire onto the wheel with your hands as long as you have the top bead under the drop canter.
@@sl33ksnypr285652 I've been to LOADS of tire shops. They find a way to ding a wheel or worse about 50% of the time. I'm not even exaggerating. I'm SO sick of it.
Thank you very much single mother and I gotta learn how to do mostly everything myself cause can't afford a garage bill n can't afford another vehicle so every little bit of info helps thanks again have a blessed day
For anybody who is wondering, this is just like you do it on a bike, only the rim is larger and the tire sidewall is stiffer. You want to be careful using something that's sharp at the end for a prybar to make sure you don't rip the bead or it won't hold air.
Thanks a ton. I’ve mounted a lot of tires at home and this is making my life easier! This method is simple and I greatly appreciate the short to the point video!
That is amazing. I haven't put my tires on yet, but I was afraid it would turn into a 2 hour project. Now that I've seen it, I think I can make it happen. Thank you!
I've mounted some 8.5" sidewall tires before, but I could not for the life of me mount my 5" sidewall tires. This is THE best technique to mount tires. I've easily installed these lower profile tires following your instructions. Thank you my man ! 🙏
I am giving you huge virtual hugs right now dude.. my bf has been fighting to get his tire on the rim all day.. I found your video showed it to him had it on in about 3 min.. THANK YOU BUNCHES❤🎉🎉❤😊😊
Thanks for posting this video! I like how you kept it quick and to the point. I purchased new rims for my truck and was able to mount the tires with zero scratches by myself thanks to your technique! I did end up cutting som small pieces of rubber hose about 3 inches long, then slice them in half the long way. These were used at any point the prybar (I used a flat blade screwdriver) contacted the rim, just to insure I didnt chip or dimple the rim. Took me about 2x as long as you, but I feel was a good investment. Thanks again!!
You are a gem... Thank you. You work like a gentlemen unlike these previous clips I seen on here 🤦🏽♂️, with these same tire size too! I can understand low profile tires being a pain but anything bigger then what you have here should be cake work. Again thank you
As we are living in these self isolating apocalyptic times these skills become more vital. After watching your vid I just went and fitted the tyre to the wheel for the mad max matt black V8 hot rod I'm cobbling together on my driveway to pass the time. One trip to the tyre fitting shop avoided. Thankyou.
Hey man, I saw these beasts on RU-vid doing the same thing you did and I was like sad thinking I couldn't do it manually without scratching the wheel, but you proved it is possible. Thank you so much, I'll be doing my own tires.
thank you for posting this video it helped me out a lot today with my tire change. I was about to give up but kept at it and that feeling i got when the second bead was on, man that's something money at a tire center can't buy.
Thanks for this. You are a great humanitarian. Best tire mounting video for the ages, nobody needs to do this again. Windex and actual wood prybar shows that anybody can do this!!!
Impressive! Great job, great video mister! Didn't know low profiles could be done by hand...tried it, did it👍. PS. I actually won some bets doing it as well...LOL
At the shop I work at we use dawn for lubing the tires which is much cheaper. Also when dealing with an aluminum rim I suggest using a tire iron with a rubber encased tip so it doesn't scratch your rims.
a tip: lubricate well the inside of the bead facing the exterior of the wheel, it supports the friction involved in the passing over the exterior of the wheel Often, I use a mixture of about 25% liquid dish soap with water tu lube the bead I use it also for loosing the tire bead, I spread this lube and with my manual machine, it is very easy to break the bead( I spread the lube and repeatly apply the force to permit the lube to penetrate the joint)
no, there is not a great quantity of soapy water, and before reinstalling the tire on the wheel, i just check and remove puddle if there is one.@@LifeWithEmin
I used ratchet straps to air up my boat trailer tires. Worked great ! Both aired up first try. Thought for sure i was going to need the starter fluid method.
Nice demonstration video. I know that feel’s good to take care of that yourself. Glad you really expressed how important it is to have your weight on your knee driving the tire down to the center of the rim! People definitely have to understand that. Nice work!
You are my hero. What a rock star. You make me think that I can do this, too. Thank you so much for the video and the awesome attitude, as well. Be safe!
Thanks for posting this video. It definitely helped me. My local tire shop wants 80.00 to mount and balance 4 tires. I thought that was kind of crazy. After watching your video I have the confidence to try it myself.
Nice job. I've never seen that done by hand before. Kudos to you for passing your knowledge along to others. People with negative comments = just pissed because they can't do it. Thanks for the lesson!
Nice, great job! I like how you put the cardboard underneath so you don’t scratch anything. Do you have a video showing how to take one off including breaking the bead?
Thank you I never learned in high school and I race junk cars but never had to changes tires never had an issue with it but now I have to and this has made it so easy
this video helped me a lot, giving me the courage to try it myself, i mounted a set of 215 45 r18 XL, putting the starting side of each bead in the recess of the rim is an essential part to achieve it.
i used 3 levers made for tires that are almost flat on the edge and tire mounting grease on both inside and outside of the beads. i got the mounging grease for 8$ for 5kg
good job. I do mine this way. If you go slow, and work the last couple of times patiently, can do it without damaging anything. and if you are worried about the piece around the rim, go a little slower. shops can damage that lip too.
Richard Carson ur right about that dam shop damage the lip of my rim and when i complaint they said there not responsible for damge dome to rims dam dumb asses
Yeah a young guy at Discount tire scratched all 4 of my brand new rims! The manager made it right and got them all powder coated instead of original paint so in the long run was better. But man was I pissed and quit annoying switching out one at a time over a month process.
Nice video. I would just like to add that you should always start with the outside part of the rim up. Otherwise you are going to have a hell of a time.
yes you can seat the bead at home , take a retching strap wrap it around the tire , tighten down , fill with air , you are now done , don't knock it till you try it .
A local tire shop installed new tires on my "like new" alloy rims yesterday (13 Mar 2019). Estimate to repair their handy-work to the rims is $1,184 plus tax.
@@Zenairo Almost. Fortunately, I had asked the Manager to look at the wheels before they starting working on the tires. The Manager's exact words were: "they look like new rims". He assured me that they were capable of doing a "professional job". When they had finished installing new tires, every wheel had deep scratches around the perimeter of each rim. As an added bonus, there were what appeared to be peen marks across several of the spokes. I assume this was caused by dropping a tire iron onto the spokes. All-in-all, not a good day.
Dude that’s crazy that it takes you five minutes what takes a tire shop 30-45 minutes sometimes even hours Now i don’t have to pay 20$ for them to take off and put on tires
Taking off and mounting tires are quick and easy depending on the profile of the tire. What takes the longest is honestly setting up the car on the lift, gathering the tires, then taking all 4 tires to the machine, and balancing, then filing the paperwork properly. Thats not even including the other 5 cars ahead of you as well.
Jeff Flowers is incorrect.. You can not mount it from the back side of the rim because the drop center is towards the front.. You will struggle dearly trying to work that bead on from the back and the chances of injuring yourself in the process go up exponentially.
Lightning Autowerks™ 1. Use Zytel polymer Irons or use 18" sections from shock corded fiberglass tent poles 2. If using steel irons install some duct tape around the edge of the rim and work carefully 3. Take it to a tire shop and have them do it on a machine.
Thank you going for 1&2 I'm too nervous at the chance of anyone else messing wheels up but more comfortable taking my own chance at least Id know every little move was gentle being my own stuff haha. Gonna try taping around and maybe rags where I use the iron to mount
Very good and straight to the point, it was worth seeing this video, I could do it myself now that I learned from your video. I wonder if it’s hard to unmount tires from the rim.
The functionality of the personal balancer is great but probably not equipped to handle wheels larger than 15-16". They balance a trailer tire/wheel in the demonstration clip for harbor freight, which is rather unrealistic. Great idea, just not for a lot of modern vehicles.
@Frank Lopez So your going to drive on unbalanced tires. You realize that the only to options are to pay the shop or buy your own balancer. Which costs about the same price either way. Are you sure you are not the one trolling here. You seem to not undertand how things work.
You can, but you need something to balance it with. There are literally hundreds of different ones you buy ranging from $40-$35k. The $40 is for older, or smaller sized wheels. It's a pole with a level on it. Works great and does what it needs to. However with larger wheels it's not the best. But it'll get you close. Your best best is to take it to a shop, they can't really s uff the rims doing that.
this really does work even if you have a thicker more stubborn tire. im 150 lbs..... as long as you position the edge of the tire (during installing/removing) so it lies in the thinner portion of the rim. it may be a struggle if you havent done it before and youll work up a good sweat. all you need is a long thick screwdriver and a good pry bar
Nabre Labre 100% Or what usually happens is drop them off at 8, the shop says come back at 3 and they will be done. You come back and they aren’t done and you end up waiting till 5. ALL DAY LONG TO GET TIRES MOUNTED.
Your mileage will vary. Having installed hundreds of tires on all different brands of rims and tires, I can say for sure that some will go as easily as this video, and some will give you bloody knuckles and require enormous leverage (we're talking metal poles many, many feet long) to get the bead over the rim.
I'm going to try it. Especially now that we can get tires ordered online for a low price, I'm going to. I just paid $150 to have my RV tire mounted and balanced and all the local tires stores are charging the same. Thank you.
Good diy video! I also recommend getting 2 proper tire levers and also there are plastic rim protectors you can use to prevent damage to rim. Or just split a piece of pvc pipe and use that to protect rim. Cheers to all DIY'ers out there.
Excellent video and excellent comments as far as I read. Installing 4 new tires on my Toyota will save me over $100 because I already have the equipment to balance the tires after installation. It's about saving money and accomplishing a new DIY task. I also give my thanks to the author of the video.
great video. there are some tires that are harder to dismount. there is a trick. you add a solid object to the bottom of the wheel like a 2x4 or a block of metal, wood, plastic..etc. another trick is to use a clamp with a rag on top of the rim (rag to protect the rim) this will hold down the tire from popping up and will make it a 2min job.
Brilliant demonstration! I have to drive some 20km to change tires for winter/summer. Wait, get charged a fortune and do it all over again. Excellent. Thank you very much.
