I was gonna mention Brent, he's covered pretty much any possible combos you could conceive with his many many videos, but I like that you have made a very comprehensive all-sizes-fit video. Great work again Luke!!! 👏👏👏👏
As a former edrummer, I enjoyed using racks so much that I kept every piece when going acoustic again. I have a homemade "stealth" Rack with side rack. With the right clamps, the lighter edrum rack tubes are totally fine.
3D printer. I design and print most of my mounts at home, custom design. Especially for something that doesn't take the impact and large forces. I love tinkering with CAD model and trying out different ideas for drum accessories and brackets.
Wow... I am not a drummer, but looking for a workaround for something else. Such a thorough and informative video. Thanks for such great explanations, why's and options. I'll let you know if my DIY works out.
I use a Quad Lock for my phone (I have a few accessories to stick the phone to my car, a stand for my desk, and one for my bike). I bought a separate connector and a solid plastic ball on-line, drilled the ball and screwed-and-glued-in a wood-insert, so now I have a Quad Lock connector on a Roland cymbal arm. I thought it might work as a camera stand but it's a bit too close, however it is useful to control my music input into my TD27 via bluetooth.
Your videos are absolutely LOADED with info!! If your cant find what you're looking for after watching your videos, then it probably doesnt exist. Thank you for all the effort you're putting into your videos. The information is extremely useful!!🔥
Great video series.... I have a love hate relationship with my rack at any given time you'll find it in the closet and my kit on stands or vice versa. Great advice on replacing plastic mounts with metal - I am always reluctant to tighten the plastic pieces in fear of cracking them. The phone hack is good too...
I think a lot of us have that experience over time! I've typically settled on a mixture of the two - stands for some parts, rack for others. Or two side racks so that it's not all mounted over the front and doesn't require as much balancing. Yes, I've had issues with plastic mounts before too! Thanks for watching!
Yeah nice vid. Myself, on a previous kit I had, I introduced cross talk issues by expanding and mounting almost everything to the rack. My new kit, I strayed away from that. I expanded the rack to house a 22inch bass drum and longer sides, but bought extra stands and cymbal stands, where I then attached my expansion pads, cymbals with various poles/clamps, a lot like you've displayed here. I attached a lot of my expansion pads to acoustic cymbal stands (with acoustic cymbals - hybrid kit) to minimise cross talk issues. Hitting the acoustic cymbals hasn't seemed to interfere with the e-pads. I think this is because the cymbals aren't rigid and has plenty of "give" so the shock isn't sent down the stand??? This approach worked great. No more messing around with settings trying to eliminate cross talk! Plus, I think it help with stage presence with using extra separate stands ??
I currently have 5 toms, 8 cymbals, 2 modules already mounted to my rack, I need to make a mount for my laptop, my headphone amp, and my mixer…,plus 2 more pads for percussion effects. I have a Gibraltar rack and the racks from the TD11 and TD27, so I most probably won’t need to buy much except for the laptop mount. All of that and no cross talk issues. Next purchase will be the foot blaster triggers so I can use my acoustic bass drum, I don’t like the small Roland bass pads, they move too much for proper double bass. Oh well, GAS is a thing. I have 2 acoustic kits that I want to be able to record too, I’m looking into digital mixers such as the makie onix pro , plus a set of mics, stands, cables…the list goes on, luckily I don’t have kids so I can splurge when I want.😊
Boom. And there is my answer.. i want a small keyboard and mouse on hand to run the Intel NUC pc that come with me to shows. They normally sit on the floor... Percussion Table!! Perfect. Thanks buddy
Thank you!! I found this, looking for exactly this idea. I am about to buy/build an acoustic drum set. I really want to do a rack system, just like the look, as well as function. This gave me so many ideas, and info!
great video that helped me a lot to find options for mounting different gear to my roland TD-12 rack - thanks a lot! :-) one thing missing for me is a solution to stick up an extention rod into the vertical rods that the roland rack provides; on top of which there are just two plastic caps closing the rack tube. it would be neat to have some adapter that sticks right into these tubes after opening the; however i haven't found a solution for that (i.e. somethign that practically prolonges these rack tubes verticall for clamping more stuff to it).
The Yamaha DTX Multi 12 mounting plate (part # MAT1) also fits the standard Roland plate holes, and give you the ability to use the Yamaha ball+socket tom arm (hex arm, 7/8" downtube).
Do you know of a way to mount a Roland SPD-SX module up high above a horizontal pipe on a V-Drum rack? I already have the mounting plate and a multiclamp. Thanks for your help.
Would I be out of line if I said; “nice rack”? In all seriousness though you covered about everything I never would’ve thought of but I am going to use most of them now. So thank you for that
Love the video although can anyone help me as I have a Pearl icon rack but it doesn’t seem to be as much hardware accessible for a lot of different options
New to the channel, exactly the video I was looking for. Too bad it seems like the only laptop rack mounting option is Gibraltar and its over $100 USD. 😢
Glad you found it helpful! Probably the simplest method would be to remove the top of the music stand from the tripod (so the top where you mount the sheet music and the first downward pole), then clamp the pole on with a multi clamp.
My issue is that the clamps that came with my Donner 100 set have an issue with the clamps holding. Specifically the clamp for the snare which slowly creep down as I play. Any suggestions? Do I just need a better clamp?
Hi Luke, is there any clamp for the Square type rack that the TD17 comes with? I'd like to be able to have my tablet behind my toms or maybe an extra cymbals but all the clamps seem to be for round bars.
There are iPad holders that clamp to a desk. That will work with the square rack tube. You will want to stretch the springs a little with pliers, but youkll see what I mean when yiu install.
As usual.... I totally agree with you uuhg bloody brits😉👨🏻🎤. I most like a stealth or side-rack(pun intended) and the most important thing about effective racking is super sexy drummer selfies 😍🎉🍾. Love from SoCal❤️
Hi! Brilliant video....Unfortunately for me though, not knowing that much about e drums with regards to rack dimensions etc...I went ahead a got an Alesis Nitro mesh kit. Alas, as you know, the rack dimension is only 1 1/8"..... I had plans to extend the kit and add bits mentioned in your vids, but can I find a drum clamps small enough???? Nope.......looked everywhere and no joy. Any ideas or a point in the right direction would be great greatly appreciated......Cheers!
Hi Paul! That's a real shame - I've used some of these clamps with Alesis Strike rack tubes and some of them still tighten enough to work ok, but not every clamp I own for whatever reason. So I couldn't say for sure if they'd work with yours. The first things that come to mind would be either replacing some tubes with the larger diameter ones so that you could use the other clamps, find additional Alesis brand clamps or (and this one isn't the prettiest but works for me when I need it) you could wrap some tape around the area of the rack where you want to put the clamps to add a bit of additional thickness to it. I've done this on the end of rack poles when the feet are a bit too big for Alesis pipes and it works well. A good quality gaffer tape won't leave horrible residue if you want to remove it and I go around the section of pipe maybe 2 or 3 times. As I say, not the prettiest solution but if you work out where you want the clamp to be ahead of time you can make sure that it's only in that spot and it'll be hidden by the clamp. Hope those ideas help!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop I appreciate your reply, cheers! I've only been "drumming" for a year so still new to all this. Gonna go with the gaffa tape with this kit, see how it goes. Thanks again!
Just stumbled across this - at 4:17 you mentioned reverseing a multi clamp and mentioned another video; did you ever put the other video out, I couldn't find it in your videos? Basically, I'm really interested in your idea here - I want to mount some drums on a desk and I was thinking of using a monitor pole that clamps to the edge of the desk, then perhaps using a multi clamp like you describe to attach a drum rack bar. Any thoughts / suggestions?
Hey! Yes, it was part of this video about ditching racks altogether - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u8yWwc2bpKk.html 11:50 is where that particular section starts!
@The eDrum Workshop Hello again, my next challenge is mounting the cymbals but ideally using something a lot smaller / lighter / compact than the poles the kit came with. Do you have any product suggestions? (Not sure if you saw my e-mail about this, no worries if not!)
Hi Luke, I really like your multi-module rack. I was thinking of building one for my TD-50, TM-6 Pro and a MacBook Laptop. Do you by any chance have a list of parts to build this rack shown at 45 seconds into the video? The one with the TD-50, the PMP and the TD-17? Do you think I could get a laptop on top and the module on the bottom? Thanks!
Hey! I don't really have a list of parts, they're mostly just various clamps that I've picked up over the years and different sizes of rack bars. I have another video that goes into more depth on customising racks that you can see here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IfC-SM2AfjA.html It's pretty much all right angle rack clamps to join the bars, rack multi clamps to hold the modules and then some rack feet on the bottom. That particular module rack probably wouldn't fit a laptop on top because of the way I had the bars poking up and it being narrow, but you could easily make it wide enough or just have the bars flush at the top and use one of the laptop mounting solutions to make it work. Hope that helps!
Anybody know of clams from other brands that will work with alesis nitro mesh? Or tips how to attach larger ones? I do not wanna pay 30 bucks (with shipping) for a single nitro clam:(
I would use a straight horizontal low bar extension attached on both ends to a vertical stand or rack tube, add the Gibraltar sc-gemc mounting clamps as mentioned in this vid, and put the case on it. The clamps adjustability will secure it. But only if your rack depth size isn't too large for the gemc clamps reach.
Nice one! Seems this is a popular method! I cut down a music stand a bit ago for the same kind of thing. Did have it planned as part of the video but cut it for time, will have to include it in another! Glad it's worked for you!
