@@TylerSpangler I think Keenan Cornelius would in a way be a better fit for you; before finding your channel I watched his video where he narrates a sequence of his rolls; it's a bit of a similar style, in that it's enormously more helpful (to me) then videos about techniques, like for example bjjfanatics. But your videos are better, because I feel in the video of Cornelius his opponents get psychologically crushed by the fact that he's narrating their demise, whereas your ones are actual rolls where the opponents are at their best. In any case it's hard to doubt you're gonna go places in the bjj instructionals world :-) Good luck!

Hey Tyler, thanks for the time you gave in making this video, it's been a massive help to me! I'm 36, father of two and began my jiu jitsu journey 9 weeks ago! I'm only training one night a week ATM (hoping to increase this!!) And mount escapes are a big deal for me. I'm enjoying it and I'll roll with anyone I don't care, but I always stay humble and ask for advice after. It's a humbling martial art for sure, you're not using any of your day job strength in that place it just gets you tapped even quicker! Having videos like this where you give your time to walk us through what we need to do is priceless. Thankyou again! If you're ever in England would love a roll (I'd learn loads even though it would be a sub fest for you!) :) Keep rolling bud

awesome stuff, The go to was always to upa/ trap and roll but sometimes it's not the easiest to bridge some big guys off, these are great options. The thing I've found out after drilling is always make sure they have their hands on the ground, so always bump them with your leg on their butt to make them post. That makes the weight distribution way easier off of your hips.

Such a cool video. With the spider escape at the end tho, when you’re exciting, is it kinda like a backwards roll over your shoulder or what exactly is the movement. I watched that part over and over again but I just don’t seem to get how exactly you got out😅
@TylerSpangler
@TylerSpangler 2 года назад
Yep you're right, it's similar to a backwards roll. The main focus is that your feet push the armpits HARD so they can't pin your legs too.

6:20 this technique doesn't seem to be encouraged much, but I like the look of it. I often find myself framing up against opponents armpits apparently in a decent position (as mount positions go), but not knowing where to go from there. As I have long legs, this might suit me.

@stunters44

What’s stoping your opponent from just attacking your neck when arm are in hips?
@TylerSpangler
@TylerSpangler 2 года назад
Ideally if they use their hands to attack our neck, they’ve removed their posts. This will make it easy for our escapes to work. Their goal is to move my arms into a more dominant position (for them), then they can set up their attacks
@huskylord123

Hard to do if you aren’t the most flexible, but kipping can work really well for those guys. You can enter a leg entanglement on the way out, but generally I’m more concerned they will want to entangle ME that I just yeet myself out of there

Always struggle when they wrap their feet underneath. Can't capture the leg, can't push them up because the are wrapped tightly around your waist. I rarely see examples of people using these escapes when they are firmly wrapped around the waist so any guidance there would be awesome. Maybe the Spider is the way to go there? Thank you!
@TylerSpangler

I’m so lazy on mount escapes. I got ridiculously good at the catch and roll escape to end up in their guard. Hit it on everybody in the gym up to brown belts. I usually just buy my time until I have a opportunity to catch the post arm and bridge. That was my go to until I tried it on coach n he just vined both my ankles n ruined my dreams as usual. Needless to say I need to drill some plan B’s lol.

@@TylerSpangler that was one of the first and really only escapes I was taught by coach, with a transition into oshi. Problem is I’m not good at it yet. My legs are long and I have to move my opponent fairly high to get my knees back in. Im 6’2, 170. Strong but not Superman. If I’m mounted by someone over 200lbs. All the kipping in the world doesn’t move them. If I can’t sweep. I resort to the classic dive to regain half.

Yeah, these work with an opponent the same size as you who isn't very aggressive. Now show me a video of how these work with someone 60lbs heavier, much stronger who's smashing the hell out of you with an established cross face and very strong shoulder pressure, keeping you flattened out while at the same time, driving their hips back so you can't scoop their legs into quarter guard.
