Many years ago, I dreamed of living in Mauritius, just from randomly looking at it on the globe. I knew almost nothing about it. It was like an impossible dream. But it's becoming more and more of a possibility, the more I learn about it.

Which means the fishing will come back extremely strong in a few years. This is what happened in the gulf 10+ years ago with the BP oil spill. Add energy to an environment, and watch it recover and bloom.
What is the weather like in Port Louis, and is it very hilly? The country in general? Do expats have island fever? Which visas don't require living there much and offer eventual citizenship?

@nomadcapitalist You say that Mauritius isn't very interested in promoting their national economic citizenship programs (0:45). Could this be because many of the economic policies and programs have been forced via trade agreement lawsuits in monetary damage values approximating a significant percentage of the GDP of Mauritius? I'm not trying say they are; I'm asking if you can confirm that's the case. It speaks to the state of acceptance or resistance within the nation's system to the adoption and use of these programs by expats.
As a Mauritian all I can say is that the country is not in dire need of these programs to help the economy. To take the example of Spain where there has been a backlash against foreigners buying property, the authorities are going about it the right way. There is no resistance as such against foreigners coming to settle here either from authorities or Mauritians except for a fringe of communists.
Getting citizenship by naturalization you will have to spend a little bit of a longer period of time within that country but on the other hand if there is still not heavy on applying taxation to your income and capital gains I wouldn’t have a problem with it 😅
