Ni: Hold up. Something's off. Te: What? Are your "legal liability senses" tingling again? Or did you find another loophole to exploit? Ni: No no... It's just... Te: Then come on! Let's work on this difficult and/or tedious thing we have to do! Ni: But what's the end goal? Fi (to self): I sense ouchie. Te: To do this! Ni: To serve what greater end? Te: To accomplish X. Ni: But to what even greater end? ... Ni: But how does it serve the end goal of living? Te: Hold up, what's the end goal of life again? Fi: Oh no. Ni: Don't really know, honestly, other than whatever you want it to be and that it's a multifaceted thing, so let me consult Fi. Fi: (speaks incoherently) Ni: Crap. This will take awhile. Te: We've tried this for years! Ni: Of course. Let's not get into another existential Ni-Fi loop, seeing as it may very well paralyze everything we do again! Te: Yup, nip this in the bud. Now! Ni: Definitely. It's not like it matters anyway, or that anything matters for that matter... Te: Stop that! Get out! Ni: Right. Fi, is this thing interesting? Fi: (shakes head no) Ni: Te, is this thing absolutely necessary? And does anyone or anything we care about depend on it? Te: Well... um... Ni: Cool. That means "unlikely" and/or "not enough to spend much effort on". Either way, I hereby rule insufficient evidence that the ROI is worth it, so we're not doing it for now. Oh, and iIf and when we forget about it later, that must mean it was never really that important anyway. Fi: Yay! Te: Whelp, better this quick decision in the negative than another crippling Ni-Fi loop with sunk costs of having started, I guess. Se: Hold up. We've been sitting here for a while. What were we doing again? Ni: Just discussing why I'm right. Se: No, I mean... You know, what, never mind.

Also with leading NI it's important to be aware of its tendency to "experience" things and possible outcomes in the head, and later feel like you already lived through them, and then don't actually experience them in the real world with all their chaos and mutations, because you already "know" how the're like.

Wow this video has some funny timing. So, my friends are ENFP and INFP and they mentioned wanting to open an etsy shop a week or two ago and my brain immediately went to, "okay, so what are the steps to doing this?" and started the categorization process you mentioned in the video. I didn't want to bring it up and rain on their parade because I don't think they realized the work that would need to be put in lol. -ISTP Okay, so basically Ni is my most neglected function. Ti and Se is defenetly natural for me, you know the stereotypical ISTP tinkering with things, DIY, working on... well any machine that i have or had, and the casual building a racecar in the backyard... And i grew up surrounded with feelers, so even tho MBTI is pretty new for me i on porpose worked on Fe since i was like 12 because i knew that this feelings crap wasn't really my thing. So i learned how people do these feeling things from youtube lol. In school i usually got away with minimal effort, so until recently i never. really needed to throw time and energy into planning. My sister is ISTP and I am till this day surrounded by Te aux (husband INTJ and mother ISTJ) and Ti doms and aux. So as an INFJ my Ti became quite strong and despite being sometimes still stubborn with my Te, I can accept opinions more easely and create a productive routine in general. In conclusion, my advice is to surround yourself with healthy Ni doms or aux.

When I want to test someone for Ni I drop subtle hints of something (typically something that isn't actually the case) and see how their behavior changes. If their behavior seems to suggest that they have decided that the hinted thing is true and they have adjusted their plans accordingly I have some confidence they are an Ni user. For example, I act slightly less friendly towards them, enough that most people would likely assume it is a bad mood. The Ni user will likely notice and has a tendancy to assume or suspect: I am an enemy, they need to be more subtle, they need to do gestures of kindness or affection, or there is a threat acting on me such as a rumor about them. They won't usually act on these things immediately like how an Fe user might immediatly try to make you feel better. They are likely to consider this for a little bit and then the change will occur once they have determined what they believe to be the best course of action. - an intj

Great video! Ni can be tough to describe but I think you put it concisely and eloquently. I think you hit the nail on the head with the word "simulate" in regards to describing Ni. As an INFJ, I tend to simulate situations that I could see myself in, and try to mitigate anything negative that could be on the horizon. With your Te aux, I think that played well into your passive income venture example, whereas me having Fe aux, my simulations tend to be dealing more with social situations.

Ni: Pattern seeking, comparison and recognition (But, yes, you need to use Se to test whether it might be a false pattern!); Organizing things in time and space; or analyzing and understanding the organizing principles, processes and workflows behind something -- why it is the way it is, or what you have to do to make it happen, or to make it better. All of this, 24/7.

As a Ni (INTJ), now I hope others can understand why changing the goal or target can be so frustrating for us.... now I have to start back at zero, xonsider other potential interruptions or chaos, block for those as I run my simulations again, and why was it so important to throw out my almost-constructed strategy?! It occurred to me, as you described the Ni reaction to another person saying "I want to...," That, because we don't often say much of anything without having first thought it, and all the implications, through, and run the simulations in gruesome detail, and determined that yes, we really do want to take on whatever project it is, that we assume the same level of seriousness in the assertions of others. Whereas, in reality, for others, all that thinking, simulations, and deciding, is part of doing the thing. This is likely where the frustrating "get your _stuff_ together" comes from when we work with others. Again, Ni (INTJ, in particular) does most of the deciding work before socializing an idea whereas it seems most others socialize ideas THEN decide (how many other INTJs find most brainstorming sessions ridiculous?).
@InternetLiJo
@InternetLiJo 3 года назад
Yes! When people say they’re considering doing something I instinctively think “well then they must have considered XYZ”, wherein reality they are just voicing their consideration of the endpoint without the prior consideration of the parts.

I see it the same way. Especially in my field of work which I've been in 25+ years. I just know. If I have to, I can take the time to figure out why I think X will work better than Y and explain it to other people. As an Infj this is my NI in action: Person: *tells me they got in a car accident and needs advice* *Me thinking inwardly:* NI: Well since I never been in an accident like that, I can vividly imagine you in the car accident, visualize what kind of car you have that I never seen, know how badly the car is messed up and even visualize where you got the car accident. FE: Well I can see you are shaken up from the accident and isn’t physically hurt which is good but I get the sense that it scarred you mentally which is bad and I don’t want you to feel worse than you already are cause it would break my heart if I did and I don’t know how to make you feel better. TI: Well gathering the visualization and the physical observation, I can conclude that you need to contact the car insurance to access the damage of the vehicle and see if you can sue the person who hit your car. After that you can then seek physical help in case you are harmed and also a bit of therapy so that way you don’t develop anxiety while driving from this experience. Se: Well now that we gathered this information, we need to focus on the present and not in the past or future and tell them the information that we gathered. Me: *tells them all this* Person: *listens to my advice but never takes it seriously*

Sometimes there's more than one answer to a question, like with trajectories you basically have two options due to how the quadratic equation works -- and you instinctively know it and can feel the routes when going to throw a given item: lower and faster below 45 degrees, and higher but longer time to avoid an intermediate object above 45 degrees. Then you can factor in wind resistance either simulation wise before throwing or calibrate after the first throw essentially. Either way though, the simulation of the event before hand, and the instinctual feeling of parabolic trajectories, those are Ni usage. But also the cloudlike feeling of time, and the nagging feeling of something needing to be done when timing some event (like cooking, if you go by your gut you can be right there the moment a timer starts beeping even if there's no display for counting down.) Or in strategy games, you can guess how things will play out. I used to play the Command & Conquer series of games, and in Generals or Zero Hour IIRC, they have the most predictable AI. It's hilarious. Playing as the nuke general, I'd set up a couple atomic cannons and have them attack ground along the path where the enemy kept sending their troops. Extra crispy. Or when playing one of the Merican factions, laser or air, I'd have snipers and rocket troopers in helicopters to act as movable defense towers that worked against both vehicles and infantry, while building up a ton of attack helicopters to systematically swarm the enemy's skies. Chess isn't necessarily as fun, I somewhat like Risk and Stratego better. I did recently study Bobby Fischer's book, but I don't really have anyone to play against in person. I had played against my nephew a couple years ago, and he won the first game, but the second game he didn't notice how my queen was free to clear up his side until too late and he didn't want to play again it seems. He's an ISTP, so far as I can tell. My dad was an ISTP as well, at least as well as I can guess based on faded memories, as he died of lung cancer back when I was 13 in 1999. Fun times. -_-

I’m guessing my second function (Ni) developed very early in life. Growing up, I was fixated on becoming a Meteorologist and almost everything I did in my late childhood was towards achieving this goal. My devotion was so intense I spent many years drifting around wondering “well now what?” after I earned my degrees. I’d imagine many in my field are Ni dominant because our job is to sift through the chaos and present one unified concept of how we think the weather will be in the near term in a given location.

Yes, this is exceedingly helpful. I thought I had to be just vibe with reality to accomplish Ni (INFJ's are supposedly psychic), but it turns out my job regularly praises me for distilling big ideas down to 'the best path forward. So, I'm farther along than I thought.

This exercise you mentioned basically sums up my thought process for most things in life... Dom Ni sucks. It's scary how much I can't get done because I'm focused on creating perfect systems in my mind instead of doing anything at all because my process isn't perfect enough yet (and it probably never will be). My counselor said I need to stop finding flaws in things and just do it step by step cz "done is better than perfect" but I can't turn it off that easily! It's useful too because I plan amazingly but I need to learn how to control it...😅

Huh.. Sorry to disappoint, but what you described here was Te for the most part. As an Ni dom INFJ, I can do *none* of this "see best path and categorical moves forward thing", that was all Te. Only the pattern recognition thing was the pure Ni part. What was described in this video is Te, using Ni to direct it self. (I know this is your only perspective ofc. as an INTJ)
@joelnicholson

A very fine video as always - my one possible criticism is that this seems like a relatively Te -oriented example, which is of course very natural for you to offer and clearly makes sense to you. But to try and be a nudge more specific, it feel to me like possibly what you've explained here is the process of Te in action in the world overall, and that the Ni at the core of the process remains mysterious. I'm not sure I experience Ni as anything like the detail of "have they thought about this or that?" so much as the pretty much immediate internal awareness of "yeah, that'll probably work" (or "huh, well they'll be bankrupt in 6 months"). But that's a purely internal output: it's an impression in my mind, not especially something I have to say/do anything about. How I respond after that immediate experience is a valuing/judging function, ie: a Fx/Tx function. But Nx, like Sx, is a perceiving function, right? It's the apprehension of the kinda "gestalt" of the situation - not the experience of what to *do* especially. It strikes me that the Ni part of the process is when the possibilities of a situation collapse into a singularity of internal certainty - that's my analogy from my experience of Ti, which as a tertiary process for me I feel more able to catch sight of. Of course, by now you will have noticed that this whole explanation is a heap of Ti-tertiary nonsense because I certainly don't have any facts or figures to back this up! It's just my internal model - I guess my way of trying to understand Ni. I wonder if the *best* illustration of Ni in the video is the bit where part of you - without really consciously thinking about it, or making any particular plans - intuitively explored the situation and went "hmm, let's just check the sound out". As ever, just some INFJ noodling. No criticism implied or intended - keep up the good work!

INFP can sometimes have Ni moments but they can’t really use it strongly cuz it’s not in their stacks. They can try using Ni cuz they can try to use their 5th function and 6th function (not naturally what they want to use) but can use only to a certain extent. With your Se blindspot, you are certified INFP. Blindspot: 7th function we can’t use at all. We think we are using it but we use first and second function to make it look like 7th function. We think we are good at it so it causes mistypes. That Ne aux is why you have that Se blindspot haha. I tested my certified INFP mom on Se blindspot and she really is Se blind. They use Fi and Ne to compensate or to mimick Se. I see her blindspot everyday lol. When I type people, it’s easy to tell Se blindspot and Ne blindspot. There was this person in my school who have Ne blindspot and it’s so obvious I see him using top two functions to compensate Ne blindspot. I see Ne blindspot everyday. I am not too sure about Fe and Te blindspot.

If we want the same thing and you ask us why the answer will be completely different.

I feel like my Ni mediated by Ti does do this forecasting but it's a lot more abstract and subjective. Not that I wouldn't think somewhat similar things but when I think of someone making a business I might go into thinking about how they market themselves etc. So that they actually make sales. To me the concrete things are relatively easy and not to bed worried about too much. Like it's not hard to make a web site or a product you already know how to make.

Great video. I'd love to see a video explaining, if applicable, how the "categories" show up when associating with people. If it's always there then it would be there when trying to read people as well, which just sounds like a special type of hell or something. I'd think there would be so much work going into any level of speaking to others, which I guess might tie into the lack wanting to small talk with others? But maybe there's some way around it, like run enough simulations or something?

Unfortunately for me, this is not how I think about things. If I get it in my head that I want to do something, I usually don't plan it out at all...I just jump in head first. When I do attempt to plan, I either get bored and throw the plan out or get angry because the plan feels like I'm trapped and continue in a storm of fury because my Fi has decided the plan needs to happen but my Se wants to go draw or eat something. 😔 All very adult ways to behave, of course. 😆

Is it safe to assume that INTJs want predictability due to high NI? If so, how do we go along with high Ne users which should need the inverse of high predictibility? Isn't this a major obstacle? Ponting more towards compatibility discussion, it may mean that the best combination would be with having a low Ne or Ni in communication with a high Ni,NE for the sake of variety.
@Haannibal777
@Haannibal777 3 года назад
I kind of disagree with the way you presented. Ni works best in areas where you have prior experience. It should then provide you with the answer out of nowhere. That is not the hard part. What should come next, if you are healthy, is Te check your result. Kind of what you describe in the video, logic through the steps to try to get to the answer. While Ni is right more often than not, it is not always right. Te checking is very important and lazy INTJs might skip this step. It is no different in chess. The best chess players do not logic out their best move. Ni give them their answer but they still double check with Te.
@InternetLiJo

So Si would work best in areas with prior literal experience. Ni works best in areas of prior conceptual experience as in the understood principle can be placed over the new sensory at hand. Using an understood concept on a new situation. But I hear you!

@@InternetLiJo Brilliant book, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, by Malcolm Gladwell has described intuition extensively. About Ni being ahead of ones conscious thoughts is so right. When I tried to explain that to some they just rolled their eyes though. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess it sounds weird "my mind is faster than my mind! Yaay!" but I mean sometimes the things Ni tells me I question myself (especially if it's bad news about someone I know) because I don't want it to be right. So I tell myself I'm paranoid again and again even though Ni is there saying" you still don't accept this? You'll see one day.. "🤣 And who was right in the end? Ni. 😬 🤷🏼‍♀️ But the whole thing that most of the process is hidden from my conscious thought can make it tricky since I don't even know why I know. 😬😬//infj

I'm not saying this to be disrespectful, please don't get me wrong LiJo. The thing is that I find strange when people who don't believe or accept shadow functions say that a person doesn't have a function or her/his stack, because it seems pretty intuitive to me that as human beings, we must have all of them. Not having all of them would me us too different to each other. I believe I have Ni as my 6th function, named as the Critic Function, as an INTP, for example. I have a hard time making decisions, and I think it makes perfect sense that I'm critical towards my own decision-making regarding aspects of life that aren't strictly logic.

Nice explanation, Ms. LiJo! I am often so focused running simulations that I give only limited attention to the Se world around me. When I try to multi-task and do stuff at the same time, I often bump into objects or execute simple, Se tasks poorly (e.g., drop stuff, write the wrong word, etc.). When I focus sufficiently on the Se world, then I cannot attend adequately to running scenario simulations or watch the interaction of objects/forces in my head. Managing this "tension of opposites" can be frustrating at times.

These simulations are often running in mind while seeking more information-data for the running in-mind simulation. Insufficient information-data can prolong this process due to not being able to work out a viable-acceptable solution. At some point, the solution appears. At times completely random or after some passage of time. Once the solution has appeared, downloaded and done, the mind goes off to work on another simulation.
