Good video Casey. You asked if we have experienced things like this. I'm the homeowner and our 5/8" anchor bolts had to be reworked. The original workers never returned. We hired a different crew and sent the invoice to the original group who paid without questions. Almost like they expected it.

This is why my dad was hated by contractors that he hired for their first time on jobs. He went behind them like this before calling an inspection, and pointed out everything to their boss. The reason? He had met with the boss and explained our standards prior to work. By telling the boss, he made sure the person responsible knew what was going on. This way, the boss knew he wasn't getting paid to repair work that should have been correct the first time, regardless if it was contractor or contractor employee fault. We all get paid to do our jobs correctly.

Their suppose to me a set of plans they build by, so what was your dad telling them, follow the plans?
@thereasoner9454

@@robertmccully2792 Making sure the plans were followed. Example, hold down bolts being located wrong, Top plate splices not being tied with strapping, shear wall not being nailed off correctly, etc. The things that are taken for granted to be done right, but are often assigned to new workers because they are beneath journeymen. The details matter.

Holy schmoly. This house has bad bones. If the builder allows this quality from their subs at framing then imagine the spider web of poor quality you get in the finished product.
@xaphan8581
@xaphan8581 9 месяцев назад
I doubt it was the framing. I bet anything the foundation was out of square and that’s why some of the framing was good and some wasn’t.. I’ll bet you anything they were fighting the foundation. Think about it, if your the framer and your willing to do that shit of work why wouldn’t you just cheat the wall to match the outside of the foundation? Instead they wanted their shit to be square and straight so they probably did what they could. I’ve been i that same situation but we had the fuckin concrete guy come back and poor onto the foundation he already did because our walls if we made them square would have been floating in mid air in some spots
@orion7741

@@xaphan8581 100% gaurantee you that it was not because of the foundation. this was ALL because of lazy and sloppy framers. foundations are almost NEVER "out of square" as you say.... lol. thats just rediculous. the concrete was fine, it was the Framers that are to blame for all this. they did a absolutely shitty job and it shows that they just did not care about doing the job correctly. the fact that you are trying to defend the framers tells me that you are probably one of the framers that did this shitty job.....

My late father and his brothers would build the foundation within less than an inch of square and the rest of the building was also square. That would fix some of the issues that we are seeing, but the rest of the issues you are showing are just not caring. Slap the building together as quickly as possible and cheaply as possible. Not built to last, that’s for sure.

Just like cars I will never buy a newer home! The way they are built is nothing compared to years ago . My current house was built in 1914 is solid brick is in perfect condition, my only issue with it is Modern Code telling me if I have the roof stripped and replaced I have to redeck the roof?? Not if I can help it, the current construction of the roof Deck is original to the house it survived over 100 years of harsh Upper Michigan weather! Today's Plywood and OSB can't beat solid wood!! The current decking is in perfect shape, no water marks ,Rot or any kind . I'm trying to hold off as long as possible the shingles are getting rough if I can save it from Codes grubby hands with a Historical exemption I will fight for it! . My point is nothing today is built to last. I'm not saying code is bad for newer construction just it's not good for old homes like mine it can ruin a old house before it helps it.

@flyer7694
@flyer7694 9 месяцев назад
Don’t forget survivor bias. They certainly built bad homes over 100 years ago when there were no codes at all and people did what they want, but they didn’t last 100 years. Only buildings that old which were built strong and tough would last that long and still be around today. I live in a house built in 1955. The bones of the house are much better than a new construction home I lived in before that, ie no gusset plates or trusses. However, things like wiring and plumbing are definitely not better in the older home, with many rounds of renovations over the years. Some of the lights in my house still have cloth insulated wires with no ground wire, which is how it was done back then. Not to mention things like lead paint and lead in the pipes that a lot of homes my age have. So some things are definitely better and safer with modern codes.

There is some weird shit going on in that attack. Look again. Maybe it's just the video. It's like part factory truss and part cut roof with "T"ed braces and part looks like purlins. Now he said he doesn't know, and that's good, but those drive anchors work with expansion of that sleeve when that cone pulls up through it. That adds pressure to the concrete, which isn't a good thing. And one more thing, most engineers and blueprints say no steel within three inches of the surface, so even the metal plates could be a disadvantage.

I'd say the biggest problem is whoever did the concrete work doesn't know how build a square foundation. That is really bad, not even close. Of course seeing the rest of it come together doesn't surprise me. Crap on top of crap. Carpenters did not even try to fudge it to get it to look right or compensate. Sad thing is, this house is probably costing close to 500k or more with the size footprint I see

Nice Inspection, Did not notice any straping of roof trusses to walls if one is tying/strapping walls to grade beams/foundation why wouldn't tying/strapping the roof on be logical? Strapping the wall sills to foundation without strapping the sill to the wall studs seems non-sensical. Thankfully owner had this inspection, I would flow test all drains now to make sure no partial blockages exist. This would never pass in my area it's almost impossible to stick frame exterior walls with our building code in Miami-Dade County. Ray Stormont

There is a 'blue screw' Or powder actuated concrete pin, between every other stud on that wall. The carpenters DID address the construction error of the foundation being poured unsquare. A sleeve anchor in one view at that plate end. But then it HAS been addressed. Are they rated for that use in that code jurisdiction? I have no idea. But first,, attributing the error to the rough carpenters,, BS. And then when the carpenters did address it with blue screws or powder driven anchors,, you gloss right over it. "There is no fastening in this wall.. BS You just lost my vote. Blamed the wrong people. The people who did address the problem you continue to blame. You don't know what you are talking about. Thumbs down.

With what you pay for a new home I would hope they would do a little better job of building it. This house is disgusting.

This is what happens when the workforce is composed of transients who have no intention of making a life for themselves in this country. Their main goal is to send money back to home, and eventually leave when they have enough. In the meantime they fake being tradesmen when they're not even close.
