People keep asking me how to open the HTC VIVE cable panel at the front of the device, so they can make sure cables are pushed in or access the secret USB port.
Well this delightful video will show you the super advanced technique that takes years to develop.
- Put the HTC VIVE on a solid surface
- Pres down and away from you with both thumbs on the back of the panel
- slide cable up the HMD
- Feel good about yourself
- Do the same in reverse to put it back (applying pressure with thumbs again )

This video did a great job of shgwing me how to get the panel off. Unfortunately, It was not so good at getting it BACK ON.

I agree with this statement. What you have to do is get the side slates to lock then push the whole thing back on.

Pretty much what@@Stephengirty said. Push the panel as far forward as you can so that you can tuck the side panels under in order to push the entire thing back and lock it in place. The wires do push against you a little bit.

Thank you thank you for this, it was the slight downward pressure that I was missing. For those w/ usb headphones, if you plug into that front panel usb slot it works just like plugged into the pc, this is usefull if you want to keep your usb headset/mike w/o getting like a 15 cable to trip over

i was having hdmi cutout issues (sound still working), and i had to restart every time. i figured out my cords weren't very seated at all. thanks a bunch, i was worried about breaking it (i have a tendency to use a lot of force). thanks a bunch!

So..this was helpful, but I re seated all the cables and the display is still dark. Sometimes when I restart ill get a quick flash of the home screen, sometimes just out of one eye, but mostly just black dead display. Whats the next troubleshooting step? Started suddenly mid game

I threw a grenade so hard in onward, and the controller snatched the cable, after that the headset didn't work, found this video and opened the panel and unplugged/plugged all cables and whops it worked again (luckily!)

yes, I use a pair of sennheisers and theres a basic headphone jack sticking out of it you can use

Mage Enderman i had to cut out some plastic around the usb plug, it was to tall to fit there, alternatively u can buy new cable that will fit there if you are afraid u will damage the cable while shaping the plug

Well, I'll be damned. It's one of those features they don't tell you about. Thank god too because I "might" need to get the cable replaced and I was concerned cords where welded to the device. Thank god it's not and it's a cheap 30 dollar replacement.
