Which CF splitter is that? Looks really nice

I love the customization of headlight but I always find the process of opening them a bit daunting. Nice to have a method without putting it in the oven, feels slightly less wrong :)

Yes using the heat gun is a MUCH safer way. It takes some patients and care but it is much less of a risk.

Love the "cold air intake" that's just a cone filter directly above exhaust manifold lol. I believe that's actually a hot air intake

You are correct for now. I have plans to change that.

I've tried the same method on my a6 c7 headlights. Didn't work. I think because mine is manufactured in year 2011 and the butyl has hardened beyond heating. The process cannot be done without distorting the back housing edges significantly. And still the butyl won't melt or soften. Maybe this method works on newer car when the butyl is still fresh. Just some advise based on my experience.

So I have helped people with early B8 or other cars from around that time and this method did work. However I can certainly imagine situations where it might not work. In your case you may need to try doing the oven method. Done correctly I have been told by people where custom lights are their business that the oven is best for stubborn headlights. That process will heat the butyl more consistently and steadily over time without the risk of overheating the housing. The problem is you need to do a lot more prep and you need to find good directions because keeping the right temp is key.

I had the same problem on my B8.5 S4 (2014). I had to keep turning up the oven and by the time the sealant got soft enough to start to pull apart, the housing had melted and the oven was on like 350- I'm actually considering just trying to buy new housings and transplant the innards.

I had the same problem on my 2011 S5. Oven 225 for 15 mins and didn’t soften at all! Messed up the housing trying to separate the lens. So I tapped out 🤦🏽‍♂️

@@RobertoHernandez-wf8ew Same here. I want to fix my DRL. Kept the 2010 A3 headlight at 150 Celcius at oven about 15 20 mins. Only it got soft. Didnot work for me too. I will try another solution. I tried not to cry lol.

So there are lots of replacements on ebay. I have heard from other people that they have had good luck with that but as you know ebay can be hit or miss. I have also heard you can get the OEM ones via FCPeuro or Audi directly but I have never tried that.

Hello, I want to seal my A6 C6 headlights back, what temp is ok to put each in the oven?
@B8S4Carbon
@B8S4Carbon 3 года назад
I do not use the oven for this exact reason. I never got just the right temp to get what I wanted done. I would use a good heat gun. Preheat the butyl until it is tacky then put the lens on and keep pressure on for a few minutes so they cool. After check the seal if places look open you may want to stuff some extra butyl in the area, heat it up and push it in with a screwdriver.

I think its same for my A3 Sportback 2014. How do i close it back?
@B8S4Carbon
@B8S4Carbon 3 года назад
I seal them back by spreading the butyl out then hitting it directly with a heat gun to get it sticky before inserting the lens. Once the lens is in I heat different areas and squish it tight with a set of plyers before adding the retainer clips back on. Thus far that process has always worked for me with no leaks. I did help a friend with another car (not Audi) and found that I needed a bit more butyl but the Audis seem to always have enough.

Same method works on S3 8P drl lights? You put it back with same glue?
@B8S4Carbon

This method should work on any non-sealed headlights. I did put it back with the same glue but some headlights do not have as much extra so you may need additional

Bro after installing bi led projector lens we have to close headlight cover or not ? If we close it will burn out or not? There’s no space for passing cooling fans air
@B8S4Carbon
@B8S4Carbon 2 года назад
The stock Audi B8 lights have no cooling fans and have not overheated to my experience even with the upgrades I have done. Now if you are doing similar work on another car then I can't really speak from experience sorry.

THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH 2008-2012 A5 HEADLIGHTS. THEY DO NOT USE BUTYL RUBBER TO SEAL THEM. DONT PUT THEM IN THE OVEN THEY WILL MELT THE HOUSING PLASTIC BECAUSE THAT TOO IS NOT THE SAME. THOUGHT I WOULD WARN PEOPLE TRYING THIS.
