This was quite helpful for several reasons. Most of all was the comment that the remote isn’t really a thermostat in the traditional sense (even though you seem to call it one in the beginning of the video). Still getting accustomed to our four zone setup and this video really helped my understanding. Thanks Wes!
Best explanation I've seen. Even better than Daiken's short video. My only lament is that I was sold on the idea that it was made in Japan, and I discovered after installation that my unit was made in China.
This is a good video. I have a Mitsubishi mini split and living in a house build in 1900 gave the installers a run for their money. Lots of doorways and windows and finding a way to place the units was a challenge. Just today I've put the LR and kitchen units on Auto to see if that helps keep me comfortable. According to Mitsubishi Auto is the way to go, we'll see.
Definitely helpful I was getting frustrated with the AC mode not coming on in my room didnt know both had to be on the same mode Question I have is can my livingroom stay on AC and still heat so I can have AC in my room
Barron, can you explain how the thermostat works on these systems? I one a mini split ductless from this brand it is a pain in the ass with keeping the right temp. I have a 7 degree deviation between requested cooling temp and indoor temp. I am frustrated with it.
I just purchased a home with a Daikin in my utility room. I also have the standard hvac unit for the rest of my home. Just from watching your video, I have already learned how to heat the room up! My hedgehog would thank you, if he could. They have to have 70 degrees and up or they will go into hibernation and die. I had it freezing in there! If I keep the door open, will the daikin help lower my utility bill? My washer and dryer are out there, as is my pantry. So much warmer! I can go downstairs without shoes now! Thanks so much! Cold in Alabama!
I just had a Daikin Minisplit installed and with the unit set to cold, fan set to auto the fan never fully turns off it just goes into this low speed blowing. Is this how it should function or should it shut off when it reaches temp? Thank you!
Great video, I have a DAIKINFTX18NMVJU The question is the unit fan always runs no matter how it is set. Is this the way they are or is this a defect or is something wired wrong or set up wrong. Thank you
Thanks for this useful video. We just had ours installed and have a split in the basement and one on the first floor (Daikin 3MXL24RMVJU condenser with an FTXR12 hi wall for 1st floor and a FTXR09 for basement with an FDMQ18 Compact ducted unit in attic tied to new insulated and sealed duct system in attic with ceiling supply registers in each room on top floor, one main return in hall.) and have left the two splits temp at about 65 for the majority of the time with the fan *on* most of the time. We now set the fan at auto or night so to use it less after what we read. We just got our first bill and it's $370 for only a month (early Nov-early Dec). That seems high. Can you help determine the cause? We live in Boston and get cold temps but that's not even peak winter yet. At one point in your video you mention the efficient cost of which we want to ensure we're getting too. Thanks!
I have the same Outdoor Unit(4MXS36RMVJUA}and 2 Indoor units(FTXS18LVJU and FTXS12LVJU}I am in the Poconos Pa. and had my units installed on Jan of 2022.I am very happy with my system. The Upstairs is the FTXS18LVJU and it seems it hardly ever goes on butttt the Thermo on the wall always say its around 70(I am happy with that}The Downstairs unit(FTXS12LVJU}is the coolest room where I spend my evenings on the computer and drinking wine.Seems the Heating is always on and shuts down every now and then for a min or 2 mins.I think thats because the outside Unit freezes up and has to DEFROST(that only takes less the 2 mins to defrost}But I did look outside when the unit shut off inside and seen that the outside unit was Defrosting and fan not moving but there was little Ice that you could see from the side and back of the outside unit.(On RU-vid you see many of the outside units that have LOTS and THICK ice on the back of their units}Myself I think the Daikins are very good Mini-Splits and glad that I am saving NOT having to use my Electric Base Board heating.Cost me $7900 but well worth it, hope the AC in the Summer will work as well as the Winter........
Hi, we have a FTX unit installed and it seems to be running constantly even if I adjust the temperature up. Is that normal for cool setting with auto fan ? Thank you
Barron! Thank you for your video. I also learned about the “auto” on daikin and it’s 8 degree movement required. Living in the PNW it gets cool at night but not cold cold. So I’ve switched to the heat mode, and set the temp to 68, and the room temp is also 68, but the heat pump continues to pump out heat it feels like and it can ratchet my room up to 74 without stopping! Any ideas? It seems sort of strange the room continues to heat up when before I had the mini split (19 series) the room obviously got colder at night.
Hi Barron, just Got a 3 zone multisplit system installed. Thank you for that guided tour on operating the units. Very educational and the most clarifying video I'v seen on the subject.. I have a cape code in PA. 12k and 9k downstairs and 12k upstairs ,,My daughter is like a polar bear and likes it cool upsatairs..It gets pretty warm upsairs during the day with the sun beating down on the roof. Question for you.. With all 3 units in heat mode. how best can I keep downstairs comfortably warm while keeping upstairs cool enough for her during the day?...Thanks
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything thanks for the video. Is it really more efficient to leave them on 24-7? I turn mine off while at work and it takes forever to heat the house back up.
Just got one installed and barely getting used to it with all the settings. As well. My question is is it normal for the indoor unit turns off and on it varies from 5 min to 10 min.
The Diskins Do Everything but I thought it has to be constantly running to be efficient. I have it the 18k luv series it kicks on then turn off all in a10 min I have it at 69. And it’s 40 outside
Jason King we don’t carry that brand, so I am no good. However, we used to, get a surge protector on your panel, power outages fry the circuit boards nearly every time
Great vid I was just wondering if u have the series 2 of the emera because in Australia u can’t get the series 1 anymore (btw the emera is called the zena here)
In my part if the world it's not more $$, so everyone buys Daikin. I dont actually have a preference, it's just that with a 12 year parts and labor warranty, everyone chooses Daikin. The Daikin Aurora series heat pumps crank down to 5 degrees, which is all we need in the Pacific NW. Mitsubishi has the best tech for heads with the IR sensor technology and dual directional louver, but not everyone needs that. You cant really make a bad choice between the 2, so focus on the contractor installing it!
Thank you! Was looking at the zuba, might go with the Aurora. Never had a heat pump before so wasnt sure. Hard finding a good installer, that knows what he's talking about. Thanks for your time! Keep up the great info!
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything 12 year parts and compressor with mitsubishi and 5* to -15* on hyperheats....Ive installed both as well. only reason i stopped installing Daikin is due to the size of their wall mounts.
@@performancebasedheatingair8006 yep, 15k and 18k daikin lv are big compared to Mitsubishi. 12 year part AND labor with daikin though and we just dont need -15 here.
@@TheDiskinsDoEverything the Daikins COME with 12 year LABOR or is that out sourced through 3rd party like JB associates and built into price? We dont need -15 either but we need below 17* and the hyperheats dont loose capacity till 5*
Can you tell me how much electricity this waste in a day and average atleast? I know it all depends on locations. But I’m in Oregon where heat will be used more I just need a wattage so I have an idea. Let’s say I run the unit full blast for an hour how much wattage does it use??
Honestly, theres no way to answer this as these units have many hundreds of speeds, about 900. And every single day will be different based on outside temps and humidity, indoor comfort request, how many zones are running, fan speed, indoor loads such as bathroom and kitchen fans, ovens and stove tops, lights and electronics as well as people. And whether the unit is heating or cooling. Heating draw is about double cooling draw.
If the question is watts at full blast, the answer is 3500. The rest is true for what it will actually run at, no way to know, BUT be confident that they are very efficient.
This is a great video. I have a few questions tho. I had installed in winter. Today was the first day using the ac side of things. When it was in heat mode it would get to temp and shut off. But in ac mode the heads are on constantly. Is this normal. ? Or should it cool to a temp and shut off like the heat does. Question B to all this is… is there particular duct temperatures ? When in each mode. Like sometimes in the winter it feels low only like warm are coming out and other times quite warm. ?
I had an 18k LV pair installed in my workshop last summer. In either cooling or heating mode, with fan set to "Auto", the indoor fan never stops running, even when outdoor unit/fan is not running. Is that normal? I checked error codes on the remote and each time I pressed "cancel" another error code showed until I had seen every code listed in the op manual., and even 9 more that weren't listed.
In relation to the beeps. Every time you press the button it will beep. Sometimes a double beep. An error will be a long beep. Make note of the of the code with the long beep. Then eventually you will get to the end. All of those other codes are from the day the head was born. Daikin, for some reason won’t let you get rid of them.
At the start of the video (01:05) you call the remote control a thermostat. Later at 05:01 you state it is NOT a thermostat but it is a comfort control. Also, you state that the heating/cooling mode should NOT be set to auto because you may limit what the compressor is capable of and in auto mode the temp must exceed the setting by 8 degrees before the unit will switch modes. I've been trying to determine what the heck is wrong with the darn unit and it was because I had set it to auto. What is exasperating to me is that the installer did not tell me this and NO WHERE in the Daikin documentation does it state this. Finally, it is starting to work correctly. THANKS!!!! Question: With our HVAC in the main part of the house in the summer during the day we set the temp at 74 and at night it is set to 71 via a Nest programmable thermostat. Can I reproduce this with the Daikin? I have a RX24AXVJU (in my workshop) and a RTX18AXVJU (in my office), this is on the ground level of my house. The manual covers several models which made me aware of possible features that would have provided more comfort for me. This is my first venture with mini-splits and I had incorrectly assumed it was just like a normal HVAC. Are there features you would have suggested? The sales rep did not mention that there were units with other features or features that I can add.
Yeah, that is one of my great sins. Issue with not editing anything. Meant to run at the temp you like it while you use the space. No need to turn it down at night, that is a function of older systems that run a whole house at once. If you must turn it down, you will have to buy and install a compatible WiFi adaptor. I think this one works with yours, but double check. www.google.com/search?rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS874US874&hl=en-US&q=BRP072A43&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwis4Kbw14v0AhVLvJ4KHf6NDOMQ1QJ6BAgdEAE&biw=414&bih=712&dpr=2
I’m having trouble getting a unit sized, the load calc my hvac guy came up with seemed crazy high, I’m cooling 1400 sq foot, last year I cooled the entire space with a 12k window air and it kept it 76, ran constantly during the day but it never got above 76..I want to size for 72 and he came up with 28k BTU which seems high, I was thinking 18-24k would be fine.
Go with a 24k. You want the unit to run on medium-low most of the time and have the extra for hotter days. He will be fine with it if you say, "I know I am doing less than recommended, but I am okay if temp swings up to high 70s on the hottest days."
The Diskins Do Everything it won’t be hard on the unit to run at 100 percent during the hottest days would it? He acted like it would be but my thought was normal non inverter systems run 100 percent when they are on
What’s better the lv series or the aurora? Two separate contractors came one said to go with the 15k aurora and another a 18k lv series. It’s a 1,000 sq house 3 bed, 1 bathroom. I live in Oregon so the lowest temp we get would be mid teens if we are lucky but it’s mainly 30f for our winters. I’m just confused on what model to get. I pasted the links of the equipment down below. Also the price difference is 100 dollars so I don’t know what to get? fwwebbimage.fwwebb.com/ProductInfo/FTXS18LVJU-RXS18LVJU-Submittal-Sheet.pdf fwwebbimage.fwwebb.com/ProductInfo/FTX15NMVJU-RXL15QMVJU-Submittal-Sheet.pdf
