My dad bought this car while he was minding the Fulda Gap. Delivered just before he shipped off to Vietnam. Now I have his 1970 280 SL. And I very much appreciate this instruction.
Excellent vid. Note at 1:16 how they pull the entire soft top frame out of the well. The right hand is supporting the frame so that it comes up as a complete unit. If the rear part of the frame stays behind in the well and the front part of the frame come out, it is possible to jam the soft top in the half up/down position. I have fixed several of these errors by owners. The fix is to unscrew one of the pivot bolts holding the frame together. The bolts are staked into position and not easy to remove. The reverse is true for collapsing the soft top.
Great video. Currently replacing my soft top seals. For me, the soft top always rubs against the left and right sides of the seals when storing in the soft top compartment and wears them out there. Great idea to protect the weatherstripping with that flexible plastic. To protect the rear soft top window from rubbing against itself causing scratches or creases, try putting in a towel that runs the length of the window. It really helps.
