Definitely would be interested in the container shipping method if we can figure out an east coast meet up point. I was looking at wheels with tires costing around 900 to ship from Japan if that can be brought down significantly by doing it the container way I'll definitely be getting wheels for my JA11 or Integra.
Shipping estimated quotes would be good to know. I know that not all things carry the same weight for shipping costs but a general idea for container shipping and noncontainer shipping, upgarage to upgarage would be awesome to know! 😄
My Hijet arrived in the US with a blown clutch. I bought a $240 clutch kit on Amazon but I wanted a rear main oil seal so it could be replaced at the same time, so I ordered the seal from Japan, then noticed that the Daihatsu clutch parts were cheaper so I added them, thinking I could sell the Aisin clutch kit I already had. I also bought a replacement dome light lens that was missing since I was already paying for $50 FedEx shipping from Japan. A week or so passed and the Daihatsu clutch parts I bought weren't available, so I had them substitute Aisin parts. I should have just cancelled those parts. There was more slow back and forth with messages translated between Japanese and English. After six weeks, I finally had the parts to fix my truck. It was a huge hassle. On the plus side, I've been driving the Hijet for a week and loving it. It's so fun, and practical. People love seeing the tiny old truck. It's a real people pleaser. A guy pulled up next to me today as I was driving 40 MPH with his window rolled down and his head out the window screaming, "I LOVE YOUR TRUCK!" 🙂
