Does success come from luck or skill, and how do you tell the difference? One way to find an answer: think like a pro gambler does, says football executive Rasmus Ankersen. Using sports analytics to emphasize his point, Ankersen digs into the reasons why successful companies often hesitate to change until it's too late, offering data-driven lessons on how to stay ahead of your competition.

Great talk. Great reminder to be as analytical when you are winning just as much as when you are losing.

Nice talk but pity his ideas haven't really worked in action. None of his clubs have done very well. If anything they have regressed since he came in

This is so crucial in business and with sports teams. Many people….especially rich men, can incorrectly associate themselves for the reason things are a success. The true leaders and experts can separate that idea and realize it can a big wave and they are riding it! 🏄‍♂️

A lot of the inequality in this world comes from the common inability to see how much luck played a role in your failures or success. Successful people commonly assume their success stems entirely from there actions and choices, and because of this they look down on those less successful than them, assuming they perform better or are smarter than anyone less successful than themselves. The truth is it's not uncommon for someone to make better choices, work harder, and perform better than someone who has more success than they do. If the successful people in this world would acknowledge that luck played a role in how they got to where they are, they could use their success to make sure that people who work hard and make the right choices, succeed accordingly. Currently the gender, race, religion, and economic situation you were born into dictates your chances of success as much if not more than your performance and work ethic. Sadly I don't see this changing anytime soon because most successful people build their identity around the success or riches they have, and acknowledging that those they look down on could be smarter, harder working people that just aren't as lucky as them, is unlikely.

I mean is ankersen not the exact same. His Southampton team have been awful, even by advanced statistic such as xg and xpoints. Matthew benham is the actual smart one ankersen is just smooth talker who has had trouble putting his ideas into practice without the help of benham

This is a good explanation of how many people judge the quality of decisions by the quality of their outcomes. This bias causes future failures

Seems this Talk is a bit dated. Give the poor appointment of Nathan Jones, based on analytics... Saints are surely doomed for the Championship, especially considering yesterdays abysmal performance against Grimsby

He's really just showing benham really knew what he was talking about... And goal difference, I mean expected goal difference is much more important nevermind shot comparison instead of xg comparison Jesus. The statistics he's using here are awful. Conversion rate instead of xg!!!!!?!

You clearly weren't paying attention then. He clearly summed it up at the end. Don't assume just because you're successful that it was because you were brilliant. Look at the reasons behind your success, not just your failures, so that you have the skepticism to see the actual truth and not just "oh we must be doing everything right. If we just keep doing this, we'll continue to be successful" There are so many factors in business that contribute to success...not all of which you can control.
@mvft168
@mvft168 Год назад
@@Satellitegirl41 the logic is sound given the soccer league example; but Nokia didn’t share a similar profile with one off winning soccer team. Also the mobile phone biz has tons of product during Nokias prime time so it’s hardly a “low score” game where a large sample variance applies. What he described had little to do with the question he posed.
