I would recommend going the opposite direction. Start around 1.3 or even lower and work your way up looking for the minimum voltage required to achieve stability. I prefer to take a more conservative approach to overclocking and this seems like an overly aggressive approach. Remember that the goal when overclocking is to accomplish the desired effect with the least power and therefore the lowest temperatures possible. I myself achieved stability on a 4.2 OC with a voltage just over 1.35. I use a corsair h75 120mm cooler and I have only ever exceeded 55°C under benchmark/intentionally high stress situations. My daily use stays nice and cool. Typically in the low 40s with idles in the low 20s.
@CrazyTechLab
@CrazyTechLab 5 лет назад
True, but this is designed to be an easy introduction that gives a safe ballpark figure for a starting point for someone that's never done it before. 1.425V is easily achievable using reasonable cooling at 4.1GHz, which was achievable on the 2600, 2600X, 2700 and 2700X I have, and again, I'm not saying that's what people should use 24.7. 4.2GHz is out of reach for many no matter the voltage. Similarly, some may not even get to 3.9GHz using your voltage and will go through hours of failed stress tests starting low. It doesn't matter which way round you do it at the the end of the day as long as your voltage and temps aren't too high and try to reduce them as much as possible based on your own cooling setup. Both methods will likely achieve the same result and for short term testing AMD has stated 1.425V is perfectly safe and CPUs actually reach higher than this during boost too.

@@CrazyTechLab see now that's the statement I wanted to hear in your video more clearly. My concern is that the target audience for a video like this is inexperienced overclockers who may simply be satisfied with a first try stability but its important to seek out that minimum requirement for the longevity of the hardware. Thanks for your video and input.

I think already backing off when the temperature pushes 80 degrees is way too safe. I believe the CPU thermal throttles at 95 degrees, so you could push towards 90 degrees on the stress-test, which means it would never touch 90-95 degrees under normal use (unless normal use is rendering or something, which probably maxes out the CPU for long stretches of time, but even so). - Mine, interestingly, becomes a bit hotter at a lower speed and Voltage, being 3.9GHz with 1.25V, and it hits 70-75 degrees at most, also with a very good 120mm AIO. - Though, I do keep the fan very low, which could help shave off a few degrees at higher speeds, and I'm not so sure about the thermal paste that's on here. - I think it might be a generic one and I do have a better one around I should try soon.

ok as a newbie playing with this i've learnt 1. if game mode is on within bios you can't OC past certain points (me it was 4075) it will crash and you need to restart your pc 2. ryzen master DOESN'T save your results it will constantly restore to default its mainly for testing and if you think its safe you put it in bios

With 3.8GHz 1.325v it has the best temps for me, 1600x at 69°C and 84°C on VRMs. So please note overclocking isn't about the cpu temps, but also the VRMs. I'm new to ITX build and this was a precious lesson. Safe temps for VRMs are 100°C according to OC3D. But, max temps for long term run is 90°C. All the test occured with aida64 20min bench.

What's the power draw at 1.425v? What temp does your VRM reach? What motherboard were you using? What about vdroop/LLC? What do you use to monitor & stress test to ensure it's a safe and stable overclock? Videos like this are dangerous; you're encouraging people to attempt dangerously high overclocks without explaining the full implications. Down voted I'm afraid.
@CrazyTechLab
@CrazyTechLab 6 лет назад
I appreciate the concern but a lot of this information is in the video or in my Forbes article - Ryzen Master to monitor and stress test then I recommend using Prime95. This is not a dangerously high overclock by any means. I've tested over 30 X370 boards and 15 X470 boards and none have had any issues using this voltage. In fact, most Ryzen CPUs will actually boost to 1.45V at stock speed and AMD claims that 1.45V should only be used for temporary overclocks so I always use 1.425V as a maximum and this has, as I say, been well within limits on over 45 boards I've tested for bit-tech.net and Custom PC magazine. I wouldn't have recommended these settings without thoroughly testing them across a range of motherboards and CPUs first, which is a lot more testing than most other journalists do.
@JohnDuthie
@JohnDuthie 6 лет назад
My stock 2600x regularly goes above 1.45Vcore. HWmonitor shows a max CPU VCORE of 1.515V; probably in really short bursts to reach the occasional 4.25GHz PBO.
@baptouzeubi91
@baptouzeubi91 6 лет назад
the cpu vcore you mean is the voltage deliver from motherboard before regulation from vrm's, is always higher than SVI2 TFN, which is the real voltage than your cpu get (after regulation). temps only show how long you can go, 1.45v is not excesssive until you have a really good cooler
