I love this video. As a Christian who struggles with anxiety, I have found that so many times people don't understand that overspiritualizing my struggle actually causes more anxiety for me. Thank you.

Over the last few years, I've been coming to this video because I know I have anxiety. Every time there's a new answer for me, like how much I don't know anything about myself and the need to work on that. And also how the Lord has been so faithful to me. Yes, this is a struggle. But in Christ we are more than conquerors. Trying to live 1 day at a time, greetings and blessings from Colombia 🤗🇨🇴

I don't have crippling anxiety, but I do think I have some anxiety over nonsensical things. Like my family always says that I'm a hypochondriac, which I totally agree with. (And I'd be worried in the middle of the dessert to! One of my worst fears is my car breaking down) I know God is always with us but sometimes it's hard to tell yourself that and believe when you're scared and your mind is lying to you. But I think that the whole pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is good. Last January I went to sleep away college for the first time, and that first week I was so nervous and scared because I was having to do things alone without my parents. But I found that because of that experience, I now feel a little more comfortable doing new things. Loving this series!

No way!! That's so funny one of your worst fears is your car breaking down 😂 And my husband thinks I'm a bit of a hypochondriac too, so I totally hear you on that one! 😂 That is so cool how you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone last January -- good for you!! It's amazing how God uses those stretching moments to bring us greater freedom!! ❤️

I know your channel is mainly directed toward women, but I'd love to say that these videos have even helped me. When I was in High School I struggled with Depression and Anxiety that it almost drove me to suicide, but Christ saved me 9 years ago and he can help transform anyone. I still live with mental health issues, but I have been greatly blessed and I am coming up on my 10 year anniversary of a relationship with the Lord here in March. Thanks sister for your work.

I love the way you are able to articulate these subjects! I love to talk about mental health-type topics with a girls' bible study group I lead. I especially loved your last tip, one I always say, but don't hear a lot! It reminds me of a quote from the book Love Does.. "sometimes I think we give Satan too much air time"... like sometimes we spend so much time battling and fighting something and that just leads to that problem being on our mind constantly! Maybe the way to fight it sometimes is just to not think about it at all and fill our minds with good thoughts. :)
@TiffanyDawn
@TiffanyDawn 7 лет назад
+Sara Jackson oh I love that!!! "Don't give him too much air time" - preach!! So good!! And I LOVE that you're talking about mental health in your small group!! That is so amazing. Are you going through a guided study or on your own? How is it going?
@sarajackson8012
@sarajackson8012 7 лет назад
Kind of on my own! I was inspired to share/teach after taking a biblical counseling course at my church. I'm going through different biblical counseling topics, teaching my group how to look at our struggles through God's lens and give proper biblical/wise counsel to our peers. We study topics such as suffering (depression and anxiety are included under this), conflict, personal sin, sanctification, etc. Through creating my outlines for my group, I had a hard time finding any studies directed toward 20-somethings on these topics. I get bits and pieces from other studies or journals, but no one cohesive study directed at our age group. I want young people to know that they can be equipped to know God's purpose through our struggles and give counsel to others...that it's not just something you do when you're "old". It is inspiring me to maybe write/publish my own study! It's so awesome that you wrote a book!!! So inspiring!
@TiffanyDawn

That would be amazing to write a study on it! And how cool that you got to take this course at your church! I can't wait to hear how the group goes :):)

Thank you for making a video about anxiety as like you for most of my life I thought my nervous thoughts were normal until I started studying Psychology. Then this past fall I came to the realization and was diagnosed with generalized anxiety. When I told my family, they also were like "we have known this for a while". What I have found helps me is journaling, listening to worship music, crotcheting, talking to trusted friends/family, spending time with my dog, spending time with God, and reminding myself of God's promises through memorized scriptures. Your video was helpful as it reminded me of how important it is to take care of my mental health too. Thank you! May God continue to bless you and your family as well as your ministry.

I realize you posted this over a year ago, but I stumbled upon it & it is the best bit of wisdom I’ve seen thus far. I’ve struggled with anxiety most of my life. Most severely when my husband would go on deployments (U.S. Navy/retired now).... looking back I see this pattern in my behavior & coping techniques- Fear, talking about it to anyone who’ll listen, Shake depending on their support/non support... and isolation/avoidance of social situations because I’d become afraid of critical comments. Transitions seem to trigger anxiety... moving to a new town, life changes.... I most recently started experiencing severe social anxiety in church. In community group (small group) to be specific. I’d share my struggle, then feel anxiety & Shake for what I perceived as oversharing. I had many incidents where I’d cry in class, run out and not come back, or shake/sweat all over. I said something in class once & a guy laughed at my opinion saying he has been in church all His life & NEVER heard anything like that! He leaned his head back & had a good laugh. I started to cry. That I believe was the last straw. I never stepped foot in that class again. Now, I’m not sure if I should try again, try a diff class, or what? It’s as if I am always second guessing myself .... ugh it’s the worst.

“ And even if I weren’t in life I’d be with Jesus “ haha you are so funny ! But WOW ! You definitely enlightened me for sure especially about the “ over spiritualizing “ it .. I always thought as a Christian you can’t really talk about having anxiety because people tend to maybe think you are weak.. I would think that since we fight against spirits that we should cast that spirit out . But you are right ! Their could very well be chemical imbalances and hormonal issues ( which I struggle with ) that are causing anxiety and panic . That’s for clarifying that and talking about your personal experience. Hi Tiffany, I found your videos are so great and helpful as they have so much Godly contents and advices. I spent my whole afternoon watching many of them and it brought me here as I also have anxiety problem. I used to try everything but it came to a point that only God and His words helped. Your advices and experience are real and helpful but there is just one thing I need to speak out and hope you could be aware of. Be careful with Yoga. I dont know what type of Yoga you were practicing or if you still practicing it but God specifically revealed to me of the unhealthy side of Yoga in your spirit. It can contribute to your anxiety. I used to defend for it because I thought it helped me with my depression many years ago. But sadly it is not just a type of excercise but is related to religion and spirit. The devil is very sneaky and deceptive. I love you and pray that He continue to guide you through with His wisdom and love. You are such a blessing to many.

Something I do is train myself to do what Jesus said at the end of matt 6, so I just make a successful attempt to "just deal with today." Most of the things we worry about are not actually happening when we are worried about them. In other word we are scared of what might happen at a future time, when we can just "let go" and enjoy the now, enjoy today. I takes some training mentally and connecting to Gods word daily, targeting certain areas of the word with purpose., and finding tremendous hope in what is written. This is how we find anchor, this is how we live.

I've had anxiety for a few years now. And I've had problems controlling it. I used to be on the medicine now I use this like natural oil I put on my wrists and forehead and it helps me concentrate. And lately I've had my first few anxiety attacks (which is like a panic attack but it is a bit different) but when I am in an anxiety attack I have to have someone to talk to, talking with someone really helps me, and praying to the Lord foe peace has really helped me! As I have been getting closer with the Lord! Your video is amazing! My friend told me amd my other friend about this video. It helps to know you are not the only one in the world who have anxiety.

I agree! It is so helpful to know you're not the only person struggling with anxiety! I'm so glad your friend was able to share this with you. And thank you so much for sharing a piece of your story as well! It is so hard to learn how to manage anxiety. I'm glad you found some natural oil that helps! What kind of oil is it, if you don't mind me asking? I'm so glad you have someone to talk with during your anxiety attacks too -- that makes such a huge difference. And most of all, I'm so glad you're able to come closer to God!! That is so beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️ Praying for you!

Dear Tiffany, You have no idea how much this video has helped me! I, too, for the longest time did not know I had anxiety and have recently figured it out. I had my first panic attack while studying abroad in Belize after snorkeling in the middle of the ocean! I also have been eating lots of microwavable veggies with cheese!!!!!! lolololol I definitely needed to hear this, and I thank God for leading me here. :) Some things that help me are doodling, drawing, painting, going for walks, journaling, and buying fresh veggies! :)

@oliviamanning-richardson6677
@oliviamanning-richardson6677 5 лет назад
verm Zhang i think it is so awesome that you have mentors! it’s true. yoga is a spiritual and mental thing. It’s tied to things like chakras and karma..so things that it wouldn’t be wise to subscribe to bc it effects our walk with Jesus. I think you’ll be able to find something that you enjoy that isn’t yoga. Running, jumping rope, boxing..there are many things you can do that’s fun, helps with anxiety. I think if you pray about it God will help in this area. The best way I look at it is that, non believers will look up to me and I don’t want lead them away from God
@TiffanyDawn
@TiffanyDawn 5 лет назад
Such a great question! You're right, yoga is something that some Christians have reservations about. Just like many things in life (i.e. drums :)), there are some people who feel okay about it and some who don't. I think when the Bible isn't clear on an issue, we need to ask people we trust, look at the principles within Scripture, and listen to what the Holy Spirit convicts us about personally. I think it's easy react to "new" or "different" things out of fear, because it "could" be used in the wrong way. But that's true for anything -- even things like music, sex, and food. They can be used in healthy ways or in unhealthy ways (i.e. sex in vs out of marriage; music that degrades others vs that encourages us; food that we overeat as a replacement for healthy relationships vs eat as something to enjoy and give us strength). It all just comes down to how you use it. And I think yoga is the same way. And for me personally, I love yoga. I think it has a ton of benefits, and it even incorporates mindfulness and meditation into the "workout" time, both of which are not only really good for our bodies, but also are biblical concepts. I think the meditation section is what a lot of Christians worry about, but again it all has to do with how you use it. For me, during the time of meditation, I just try to be aware of what I'm meditating on. Usually I meditate on prayer, a Scripture verse, or simply focus on my breathing, the music, or how my body is feeling. I actually love that meditation time, because it gives me a chunk of time when I'm "forced" to practice meditation, which is something the patriarchs of our faith have done for centuries, and is such a helpful way not only to strengthen the muscles of our mind, but also to practice a spiritual discipline that can bring us closer to God if we use it in that way. But I also respect when people decide that yoga is not for them. I think there will often be times when "great minds can differ," and Christians who really love Jesus and believe the Bible can come to different conclusions over an "issue" like this. Paul even talks about this idea when it comes to eating food that was offered to idols (a controversial issue in the church in his day) in 1 Corinthians 10:23-33. And I think it's okay when people come to different conclusions on topics like yoga; in my mind, that's just a sign that both of them are seeking God on the issue. Anyway...those are my thoughts. I hope they can help in some way! And I think it's awesome you're asking questions like this and talking with mentors about it!
