Sometimes we have unhealthy attachments and unrealistic hopes. We are worried about the well-being of someone or we might be afraid about what might happen next. Is there something that we can do to reduce these worries and unhealthy attachments?
Buddha talked about the impact of cravings on our life through the example of a Brahmin who attained the state of Sotapanna.
Buddha was residing in the Jetavana Monastery in Sravasti. There was a Brahmin in Sravasti who went to the bank of the river Aciravati to clear his field. Buddha knew that he will enter the stream and attain the state of Sotapanna.
Buddha went to visit him in his field. The Brahmin saw Buddha approaching his field but paid no attention to him and remained silent.

But all the desires aren't bad.Brahmins crave for good crops( result) was needed or else if we see setting a target for our work as a bad craving then how we will progress.
@smileplz2365
@smileplz2365 2 года назад
Okay,, I got the point,, indulging in always good result will lead to huge suffering,, better do work for target but be flexible enough so that we may not suffer. I hope I am right.Bhagwat geeta also teaches same in samyak yog.

@@smileplz2365 1) Brother with respect Can you tell me why Krishna used to Stole Clothes of women 2) Why being married he indulged in extrmatrial Affair, infidelity, Emotional infidelity 3) Why he Married 14000 girls he could have turned them into nuns by advising them the truth of life 4) Isn't it the truth, for violence he got killed through violence, As buddha has told who will kill people by the cycle of karma he too will be killed in turn 5) kindly share some thoughts 🙏

@@Raj-sc8qs I don't know much about the life of krishna and why he did so. I read bhagwat geeta much before and I found many similarities to the teachings of budha.The only point I couldn't convince myself with the teachings of BG is the method or solutions they introduced to release attachment and desire .the solution given was to surrender ourselves to god and see everything as his decision and wish which will surely make people blame God in their bad situation.So I took refuge in budha and choose middle path.

Everything that it's composed is impermanent. I prefer offer my practice to Budha, they need to be sincere and directly for the others well being. If I fail, I try to see what happened? Why I failed? And make an effort to develop a good practice to offer. Sorrow comes with absolute practice, like IF I do this, that will happen , or I will only do this if that happens. Don't practice with this dependence. Remember death will come for sure, enlightenment it's not granted, I don't have to many time... This needs to be your motivation, because we don't have anything granted, but for sure, if you practice you will achieve. And remember, NEVER IN YOUR LIFE, underestimate the power of discipline. If you read 3 pages per day, you can learn in one year all that you need to know about surgery.

Buddha is always right, but if we ever want to build something in this world with a lot of hope and that hope comes we become so excited and it never comes yet or be destroyed then there will be so much grief....so the only way to end this is to not to hope too much i guess or other wise just forget everything leave things behind forget about living if we don't want to get grief any more...i might be wrong but this is as far my understanding goes...🙏😌

Sir Impressive to hear this incident The short conversation between Buddha & Bramin indicates nothing particular of any Greedy mind of a Bhramin. Like any ordinary Farmer he kept on answering Buddha. In fact he was a generously expressed his desire to offer d harvest to him with love The devastation of harvest by overnight heavy rain ( Natures work) Disturbed him like any person. More over he was more worried to serve Buddha as he desired Well I am not able to relate d words Cravings, desires etc. You & me too have the day to day desires. True the root cause of suffering is desire. I feel it varies on circumstances & needs of one who wish to have. I am greatful if someone help me to explain. # incident explained with beautiful pictures & good thoughts to ponder over...... Regards

Please discuss about Tibetan Buddhism, spread of Buddhism to other countries from India, especially TIBET, CHINA, JAPAN, SRILANKA. Please also discuss many fold branches that later on arrived like BÖN, PARAMITA , ZEN etc. Also discuss about Bajrayana in detail it's different forms in different countries. Discuss about many Budhhas like Kassappa, Maitreyi Budhhas. Also how Bodhisattva is achieved. Also what are the hierarchy in Buddhism like 27 Budhhas including Gautam Buddha, , Amitava, Padmasamvaba. How one would place them all in terms of importance. And the similarities and disimilaries and differences and the tussle for supremacy between Mahayana hinayana, Bajrayana, Theravada etc. And the inner fight and crisis of Buddhism after it broke into Buddhist councils etc. And why Buddhism evolved at all after Vedic age. And how come almost two same forms of religions viz Buddhism and Jainism went and could thrive side by side. Also attainment of rainbow body in Tibetan Buddhism

Moral of this story in short is don’t work to satisfy the desires. When the farmer struggles on land to grow his food for six months or more or less depending on the crop’s time cycle to grow food for him and his family and if that fails naturally he feels sad. Since sorry and sadness may befall on him later if crop fails would he stop cultivating? No one knows for certain that every labour one puts on any action for self sustenance would lead to sorry at the end and stop working? Certain attachment to work is the only way to get the desired results. Since sorrow is also a possibility one shouldn’t desert work. In Gita Lord Krishna says one should do the work designated to him without getting attached to the fruits of it. Since sorrow is also a possibility out of the work done He didn’t advocate for deserting work that one is supposed or entrusted to do. Arjuna infact wanted to desert war because it would result in mass deaths to his and opposite sides. Krishna said you came to fight war against injustice done to your side and hence with out worrying about sorrow and death you should fight. He didn’t advocate meditation to get rid of war. This seems to be the truth.

Instead of calling " brahmin ", he should have called with his NAME. All casts people are called with their caste names ?

So, what was the Brahmins unhealthy attachment? What would be an example of a desire or attachment that is healthy?

There's no one desire of any kind who deserves to be positive. Desires are bondage ,and always brings sorrow. 🌹🌹🌹

It is same as said in Bhagvat Gita where the lord says, do your karma or duty but don't become attached to result, if you are able to control your desires you can persist when things don't go the way as we want them too.

This is also similar to Philosophy of Ancient Greek "stoic" philosophy, where it is said that always be prepared for worst outcome as it is always a possibility, we might lose everything family wealth everything but if that happens we should not feel devastated because it is only thing that we can control.
