You do not need a big pack if you only intend hunting in the summer and don’t intend recovering meat, bigger pack strap down eg 90 litre will strap down to 50. In New Zealand we always carry a change of cloths and first aid kit plus knife may be a roaring horn, daypack and a 4 season bag for the colder weather takes up lots of space. Enjoy your time hunting

Hey Josh. Brady Miller responding to you here. Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I have not had the chance to run the Evo 40/56 bag in the field yet. i think you could do great with this pack to hunt a few days out of and use it for day hunts. I own the Sky 6200 and honestly, it does everything I need. I even use it day hunting and just remove the top lid. Another great option you might want to check out is the Sky 5900. It's just a little smaller and does have some great features with how the front of the pack opens.

Hey Jay. Brady Miller responding to you. Luckily Stone Glacier backpacks have a dedicated meat shelf in-between the main bag and the frame. You could also use this area for packing your gear to your basecamp. So this extra space essentially gives you tons more room! So what you do is loosen up some straps that will allow you get into the load shelf and in there, there is a basket of sorts that you can expand to place meat. I am not concerned with a little rain while packing out meat. Plus for the most part, the majority of the meat is in-between the bag and frame. Hey Michael. This is Brady responding to you. In all honesty, I can't say I really prefer one over the other. I have the xcurve frame on my Sky Archery 6200 and it's been flat out amazing with heavy loads. I've probably packed out close to 10 mule deer with the xcurve frame the past two years and it is a workhorse and super comfortable since I'm 6'5" tall and have a pretty long torso. It's my frame of choice when I'm going on extended trips and carrying heavy loads. That said, I also have a very flat back, so the krux evo frame also fits me very well. I love that frame when I'm trying to go super ultralight. It still handled heavy meat packouts extremely well. So I guess at the end of the day, it mainly comes down to your back shape. I don't believe you're giving up anything by running the krux evo, just a more minimalist design. The krux evo performed phenomenally while packing out my Montana black bear and most recently packing out my Utah mule deer. The krux evo 3300 is also going to be the backpack I'm taking to Montana for a deer hunt later in November. Hope that helps. Happy to answer any specific questions you might have.

How many days are you planning for a trip?

For the quilt - I run either the Western Mountaineering Astralite which is rated for 26 degrees in a size long or the Sea to Summit Ember EBI quilt which is rated for 40-50 degrees in a size large. For a pad, I'll rotate between a Klymit Inertia X Lite or a Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Xtherm pad. I don't need much for a quality nights sleep. For the most part, I prefer a quilt do them being lighter plus they take up less space in my pack. Another reason I love quilts is I really don't need a hood that is found on typical mummy sleeping bags for August through October hunts because if I'm somehow cold, I could just use the hood from my puffy jacket. If I get too hot, I can just lay a quilt over me as a blanket, especially the Ember EBI quilt. Quilts are perfect when I want to be light and fast. Hope that helps - Brady

There’s a load shelf between the bag and the frame itself. The meat does not go INTO the bag. It’s actually a brilliant design. The side compression straps expand very far so you could fit an entire elk hind quarter sandwiched between bay and frame with ease. And the material on the inside of the bag is blood/waterproof so contests don’t get nasty.

The Stone Glacier backpack has a built-in meat shelf area for packing meat and your camp/gear. The main bag separates from the shoulder strap area so you can place your animal quarters or deboned meat in game bags there. Really, really slick design!

The main signs of meat spoilage is smell and discoloration. Most meat that has begun to spoil will have a very distinct sour smell to it along with a greenish tint in color.

Most Stone Glacier bags have a load shelf function. Basically the bag stays connected to the frame at the base and you are able to secure a load in between the frame and the bag. Depending on your personal preferences it may take 2 trips to pack out everything.

Hey BFarmerB. This is actually exactly how to pack a backpack. Heavy items should not go directly on the bottom of any backpack. In this case, the heavier items are in the middle of the pack right along the back. It would kind of be like taking an elk quarter and just putting it in the bottom of your bag, compared to putting it along your back and off the bottom. The version with the meat along your back and off the bottom would be way more comfortable. You want the heavy items agains your back which is what is done here. Brady has routinely backpacked in very rugged terrain for up to 7 months of the year at his past job.

Hey DA HULK. That couldn't be further from the truth. Hanging meat to let it cool after you harvest, and then packing it out in a backpack will not spoil meat at all.
