I really like this painting. I feel like I did a good job with the important stuff. My finishing touches could have been better, but overall good composition, values and colors!
Let me know what you though of this demo by leaving a comment below, it would mean a lot to me.
The paint I'm using for this is mostly the Daniel Smith Essentials set.
If you are interested in getting this set, here's a link to Amazon (affiliate - you pay the same price, I get a commission):

Dear Liron, I have returned to doing art after many years of pursing other interests. You are so generous with your time and trying to help others improve their art work. One thing I particularly like is that we get to see how you have developed your skills as an artist. That way, when I look and see all the flaws in what I have painted, I don't feel so bad because it is about the process. Like anything, you have to "do it" to be good at it. Your work, painting and drawing, is wonderful and your videos are incredibly instructive. Most artists of your calibre would charge for this level of instruction so thank you for your generosity of spirit.

Excited about painting a boat. Like watching your process. Wouldn’t mind the video being longer. I learn a lot from your explanations of what you are doing. And yes, they are called oars😉

FYI If the boat has an oar lock, it is to hold an oar, as in rowboats. If no oar lock, a paddle is used to propel the boat, as in kayaks and canoes.

I love this video, the length is perfect. I love how you explain your process, why you are doing what you are doing as you are doing it. As for the people LOL you should just call them buoys since they didn't work out as people. They do make perfect buoys.

Liron! Great video! Remember that if you just assume something in a sketch or painting the eye enterpretes it the right way, so I think you did good with the "mistakes". Don´t be to hard on yourself, have fun and enjoy painting.

Finally had time to sit down and do the painting. It came out fairly well considering I was only really able to work on it 30 minutes at a time over a 9-12 day period. Made a few "artistic" changes and still need work on sand, but it is something. I might actually display or give as a gift. i would post on here, but doesn't appear to have a way to post with a comment. Oh well, hope you had fun in Paris and doing well!

I really enjoyed that. It was really instructive. I think it could have been a little longer, however, you covered enough of the process to make it easy to recreate in our own homes. I would really enjoy seeing more instructional videos like this as it was extremely comfortable to follow.The only thing I would ask is for a list of the colours you used in it. Thank you Liron. I totally love the way you do these new style of video. I have gained much knowledge from them. Thank you Liron.

If you had pulled off the "LIFEGUARD" text on the boat, the dots in the background would immediately have made more sense. Excellent video, and I much appreciate how you express the thought process while you paint - a special example would be how you commented on your attempt to paint the "LIFEGUARD" on the boat and didn't quite make it. I can't count the times I have had that same frustration. I do hope you continue contributing to the art of watercolor painting.

Thank you ! Love this subject ! Main thing is ..... there is no substitute for a GOOD drawing. You can't really go very wrong with the paint if the "skeleton" is accurate.
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 лет назад
Yes, from my experience I find that to be true. Even more than that - it's partially psychological. When you put a lot of effort into the drawing part, you automatically care more about the painting. You want to preserve the beauty of the drawing (:

Thank you Liron. I do wish you would type your pigment numbers in the "Show" portion. I use a limited palette of usually a blue or green, rose or red and deep yellow all the same temperature. Its a lot of mixing but somehow simpler to do for me. I'm just curious what you use. Thanks again... where I live, I don't get a chance to see water or boats much.

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll be sure to add them in the description, in future lessons (: And I get you - boats are a really great subject. I really love the dry shipyards. We have only a few, but I wish there were more! Check out this video by Tim Wilmot, he shows how to use Google Street View to find reference images like these. Hi Liron id love to have a go at this painting can you remember roughly what colours you used just to give a rough idea
@LironYan
@LironYan 7 лет назад
Robert LEIGH of course! I used mainly Ultramarine blue, Sap green, Permanent red light, Burnt Sienna, Azo Yellow Medium (any cool yellow will work) and a bit of Yellow Ochre. I hope this helps (: Edit - remember that the values are far more important than the colors, so make sure you get the darks and lights correctly, even if at times you are unsure of the specific colors (:

Good helpful video, as always. However a general warning may be in order. A good proportion of tbose who like and buy marine watercolours are nautical experts of one kind or another. The first thing they look for is nautical accuracy, and your painting falls down a bit in this respect - there's no breasthook for instance, so the bow would fall apart, and there's something wrong with the overall design. So as a marine artist you either need to know how boats are built, or copy what you see absolutely accurately. And the single best piece of advice I ever received on painting boats is to remember that boats and ships float in the water, not on the water.

Salut Liron. Salut, Liron.
