How to Paint Boats in Watercolour Part 2 

Hello Patrick, I am an absolute self taught beginner. My favourite subjects are boats, sails, the sea and I am so glad to have found your class showing drawing as well as painting in watercolour. Great boat painting. I have been trying to draw some boats lately so I can put them in my painting. Sail boats are the easiest for me right now. You are the best teacher and your instructions are easy to follow. Dana

I am grateful to see your paired drawing and painting studies of boats. I'm looking forward to this exercise, once I purchase a few additional paint colors. I notice that Windsor Blue is sold in a red shade and a green shade. Could you please tell me which you used? Your step by step dialogue is very encouraging to me as a beginner. So many online tutorials for beginners race through without explanation and leave one rather lost. Very happy to have discovered you as an artist and teacher!

Patrick? I love your technique, you are an amazing artist! I always thought that touching wet zones of different colors will 'ruin' the painting unless it's on the field-first layer and then covered. I have issues with identifying what elements to ignore in a reference photo and which ones to consider in my painting so often I get overwhelmed with details and quit. I would appreciate a tutorial on your process regarding elements of focus. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Patrick. I love your videos, but... in this one I'm afraid you missed the reflections - they should be mirror images of the boats which they are not. I'm sure you know that and just had a bad hair day ;O)
