Very cool! I'm an airplane guy and have very little experience with automotive finishes. Years ago, I only used nitrate & butyrate dopes; I guess that would be very similar to lacquer in the automotive world. About 15 years ago, I switched to single stage urethane processes. Man was that a rude awakening! I tried to shoot single stage like I did dope and it was runs and sages everywhere. After much grief, I learned that single stage cures instead of dries like the dope did. With the urethane, I learned a technique of applying a medium wet coat first and allowing it to dry to the "finger slick" stage. Then I would apply a full wet cross coat of the high solids urethane. Of course my goal is to achieve color hold out with good shine with minimal weight... Is your teaching of "tack coat" in the clear similar to the medium wet coat I do with single stage or is it more dry and grainy like a traditional tack coat in the lacquer world? Does the base spray more like an enamel and the clear goes on more like a urethane? Thanks for the education and I'm looking forward to learning more about your industry and your skills.

This tip will save your ass..... Try clearing an old Schwinn bike frame without a tack coat.... Run city..... Tack coat?? By the 3rd coat it was glass ❤❤❤❤❤❤

If I buy paint and clear now, how long will it store? since I'm at least 2 years to paint. Plus I'm restoring a 67 mustang convertible, which clear coat, I am using PPG. You need better exhaust in your booth, not good if you get a lungful of isocyanurate. Odd to see a Binks No7 but it is a classic good gun.

Hi Pete great video. How do you do the undercarriage? Do you use etch primer, and while thats still wet, you spray it black?? I am pretty sure you don't prime, then sand the whole undercarriage and then paint? Just curious to know how you tackle that, and the black for the engine compartment. What kind of paint/ primer do you use?? What do you put on the interior floor of the car?? Por15, or primer, sand paint?? If anyone else on the comments know, I ready for reply.
