Every time I started to watch a tutorial in the past and they got the airbrush out, I just stopped watching ha I do have an airbrush but it’s important to know how to paint without it. Airbrushes are a luxury 😃
Michael, your content is superb! And if I may say, I think this is one of the BEST videos ive seen about highlighting and it really helped me understand the process! Cant wait to see the next video! "Waaaaaagggghhhh"
Thank you. I always try and be as clear as I can and make sure you actually see what is going on. Already working on my next video and I’m already excited for you to see it 😁
Amazing ! I work at the Bordeaux Warhammer Store in France and I always recommend your channel ! It’s easy to understand, even if you’re not that good in English. This paintstyle is really clean looking !
Thank you so much. I do have a lot of french subscribers that I regularly interact with. I know where they’re all coming from now haha I’m currently working with someone to create french subtitles, so we’ll see how that goes 😁
You make, by far, the best painting tutorials on RU-vid. I feel. The multi stage shots you do really illustrate the importance of attention to detail. It’s not just “edge highlight” it’s “edge highlight, this is why”
oh shucks, thank you for the kind words. I try very hard to make sure I am giving a lesson rather than just showing the steps :) it's great to know it's apreciated
this is quickly becoming my favorite painting channel on youtube. i really appreciate you finding a middle ground between a result close to the boxart and using a reasonable amount of time and paints. like a middle ground between speed painting and usual high detail videos. you make a great end result achievable, thank you for this. i also generally adore how you manage to emphasize the more cartoon-like, vibrant style of the orks.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I’m a huge fan of how games workshop paint their miniatures but I don’t want to spend as much timing painting them haha so I always try and find a way to get it done easier and quicker and this quickly became my style. Orks look best when they’re bright and vibrant as well. It matches their character.
Thank you so much for this comment. Knowing I’m helping people with their own painting journey really makes it all worth it. I’m gonna try hard to get better and better 😁
Just built my Warboss last week, and this video is going to be perfect for my black/orange orks. Love your videos mate, the qulaity content and editing is fantastic!
Best painter on YT imo. I've been watching a LOT of tutorials (I just got into it) and yours are by far the best. Love your editing and presentation as well! Cheers!
Michael, your stuff is getting better and better. The added focus on finessing your work is great. It’s brilliant to be along for the ride as your channel grows!
Thank you. I’m glad you’re here I really appreciate the support and encouragement, it really helps when I have those off days and struggle ☺️ I’m really grateful for how quickly my channel seems to be growing as well
You're my favorite painter on RU-vid, hands down!! You have the best and most concise information without making it slow and drawn out! You're the Bestest Warboss!!
Thank you very much, my aim is to always make tutorials people can actually use and to do that, I need to give as much information as I can and show you the process. :D you made my day thank you
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid i painted mozrog with the help from you. currently im painting the warboss in mega armour. i watch the video through, pause here and there to write down the paints ill need to order then prime while waiting for the paints in the mail. i have something like 2 hours a night to paint after the girls go to bed. then i do step by step on your video, when im done for the night i write down the time on your video so i know where im up to.
@TableTopReadyRU-vid Wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it, cock. Even though I'm not a patron, could I request a video from you at some point? How to paint light colours without getting the orange peel or chalk effect? I sort of have it down but I'd like to see how you do it, with base and layer, not contrast, please.
getting texture like that means there is a lot of pigment in the paint, so if we're not thinning the paint enough you'll get thicker layers that are 'lumpy'. Corax white is a good example. this is a very chalky pigmented paint so I generally thin it more than I normally would and use more thin layers. this spreads the pigment out more evenly giving you a smoother finish. This is why I like to use light undercoats so I'm not having to do too many layers of the lighter colours. Of course it's not always going to be perfect, even the miniatures you see in the tutorials have some texture, but it's minimol, try not to worry too much about it and don't it hold you back
Thank you. Lahmian medium is such amazing and useful tool to have. Because it’s basically paint without colour it can be used to give the same finish as if you used a paint. I find sometimes if you handle your models too much or you may have an issue with a shade being crop shiny you can use to correct it. The eavy metal team do it a lot on there miniatures. You can use it to dull the metallic paints as well if you want them to appear old and grimy
I'm new to Warhammer and painting in general and this video is unbelievable. My first set is the Ork combat patrol so this video is helping immensely with my fear of messing up my minis. Unbelievable content, so happy it found it when I did!
amazing, I'm really glad my tutorials are helping you get your Orks painted. The combat patrol is such a great box to get started with as well. I'm working on a couple more Ork videos which should hopefully be out pretty soon :D
Fantastic! I really like the amount of resolution you've got in the video, especially during the highlighting stage as it is very clear just how the paint is going on.
this warboss is still one of my favourite tutorials I've done. a lot of the time you don't get to see how good these miniatures look and I feel that with this one. Such a great miniature, really easy to paint and a lot of fun as well :D
I would love to do a flash gitz tutorial but will probably be early next year now. I’m almost ready to have a little break from painting Orks for videos for the time being, so will be doing something else soon 👍🏻
Another incredible video ! These are the best on RU-vid , after 20 years I’m now getting back into warhammer because of these videos! And you guessed it, I’m getting orks!! Would love to see how you do bases in a future video :)
Thank you very much. I'm not very good at bases to be honest, so I'm not gonna be able to show anyone how to do them haha maybe in the future though I'd have to get better first
your very kind, but I'm no where near Eavy Metal standard. maybe one day. just making these tutorials has improved my painting to a level I thought I would never get to. I'm learning as much as everyone else :P crazy.
Thank you very much 😃 when I’m thinking about what I want to paint I always try and not cover too much of the same thing. I would worry I’m doing the same but I think it could be a good video. When I get some I’ll have a think about it 😁
I really want to do ghaz. I did start him but was a difficult video to make. I know how to do things better these days so maybe I’ll give it another go
Glad you like the tutorial. I’m not good at basing miniatures haha and certainly not enough to show other people. I recommend geek gaming scenics who do a great range of basing materials. I use the products myself. This Ork Warboss is based with the Martian mix for example 😃
Great video again. One question I have is when you are doing sub assemblies do you super glue the separate parts to paper clips or what is your method? Additionally would you be able/willing to do a video showing off your entire Orks collection? Cheers!
Yeah, I use super glue because you can easily break off the parts once you’ve finished. I do have plans to do a showcase of my Orks when I’be finished them which should hopefully be by the end of the year 😁
Thank you so much for this great video. Wondering what colour you used for the inside of the saw/gears on the choppa i.e. the parts that aren't the blades? Is that steel legion drab or iron warriors?
Just realised I think the contrast between the saw teeth and main body is actually just the teeth being painted with stormhost silver. Thanks again for the tutorial!
great video!!! it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. i just got one question if you were going to paint this warboss in the colors of the Bad moons would you paint his entire armor in flash gitz yellow then shade with Casandora Yellow and then highlight with Yriel Yellow and then dorn yellow ?? :)
I do have a tutorial for yellow mega armour. It was one of my earlier tutorials and Its still one of my favourites. If you wanted to keep it simple and straight forward I would do flash gitz. Reikland fleshshade recessed. Phalanx and then Dorn If you wanted that orange accent then start with iyandon yellow contrast. This will give you toner variation
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid trust me i have also watched that one so many times but i were just wondering if you still would do it like that :) but the only yellow paint i got are flash gitz, phalanx and dorn and for shades i got athrax earthsahde and nuln oil so im going to try and follow your video to a tee to get such a beautiful model 😍
I tend to use Windsor and newton series 7 size 1. I try and put what brushes i’m using in the descriptions of my videos if you ever want to know in the future 😁
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid I recommend you leave an Amazon US Link as well. I imagine it's easy to edit your show notes with all of these affiliate links for Amazon UK and US. Would love to support you this way as I paint through all of the Ork Tutorials you've done.
I think, if possible, it would be great if you could put the Brush name that you are using at the point in the video. Because the camera is so close it's difficult to tell what brush you are actually using.
Say if I do a mini in 2 subassemblies and I completely paint both pieces, how do I go about attaching them? Will I need to scrape off the paint where they attach so the plastic cement has places to melt the plastic? Or use super glue? Or will Tamiya plastic cement work through the dried paint?
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid ok! I bought some gorilla glue when I first bought my Orks but then found out about plastic cement and bought that as well. So I should maybe then use the gorilla super glue for the painted pieces?
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid No problem, video really makes me want to start an ork army, but i promised myself id finish my current models before i buy anymore grey lol
Thank you very much. I tried my best to replicate the Warboss on the box art. It may not be perfect but it’s close enough for me. The model was sprayed black and then painted black before I did the highlights. This meant I could be messy when painting all the other details
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid ok cool. what klan of Ork is he painted as, Goffs right? I only recently got into Orks and I dont know what to paint them up as? I have da red gobo and ork warboss in mega armor, and the new ork Boyz on order. Im looking for inspiration and im thinking of going bad moons but yellow is a hard to paint and it doesn't come in spray can, so im thinking Evil Suns, so if I paint the ork warboss in mega armour as evil sunz his armor would be red?
This Warboss is painted in goff clan colours. If you were looking to paint evilsunz then you would paint the armour red. If you want to paint badmoons then give it a go if that’s what you really want to paint. Wraithbone spray is fantastic for painting yellow easily. I have my clans video that shows all the different clans you can paint 😁
If you look at the geek gaming scenic range, they do a Martian mix. They’re really good and do loads of other mix’s as well and you just use PVA glue to stick to the base
You can replace a lot of highlighting with a light drybrush using a small brush. Washes are great for covering up messy areas where 2 colours meet as well. Have a look at my quick and easy painting Orks video and it’ll show some ways you can make things easier
