You're really inspiring me to take up Warhammer again and tackle my vast piles of unpainted plastic. Your skill is astonishing, which might normally discourage me from trying myself, but your detailed tutorials give me the confidence to try it anyway and enjoy the process! Keep up the amazing work!
Wicked, I'm actually working on my own Orks over christmas. It's a bout time to get them done :P christmas time always gets me in the mood to paint Orks, must be the green haha Have fun and thank you
Hello Michael i painted my deffkoptaz the same way with ledbelcher primer but instead of abaddon black i used contrast paint Black Legion, dawnstone and adminastrum grey (if i recall but no blue tones). The bomb is so cool ! really cool paint and sculpts :) Bests tutorials ever im doing Mozrog right now, cheers
Black legion works great as well. I like these blue highlight because they contrast really well against the black, more so than grey. ads a lot of colour also. I tend to use grey highlights if I want a more monotone feel. but thats a personal choice, i do both sometimes on the same miniature. The bomb was fun to paint and thats why I left it until last ha glad you like the tutorials and Mozrog was so fun much fun to paint and really looks amazing once done
Just discovered your channel. Bought 30 paints and a Shokkjump Dragsta cuz of you. Going to paint it tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration and best tutorials on youtube.
Welcome to the channel :D make sure to take your time, expect to not be able to paint it in one sitting. I painted a dragsta in about a week but its worth taking the time :) enjoy the process
Now that's what I call stylish! I'm painting my deffkoptaz right now and for me they are among the most difficult orks to paint so far. Of course, the reason is that I fully assembled them before painting and now I can barely reach some parts with my brush lol
Awesome video, you are really helping me get into the hobby. It is helping me get through my aches tendon injury, by occupying a lot of my time painting!
You could do a short talky/turnaroundy year in review video to remind everybody what you've accomplished. It could even make for a nice channel preview here on RU-vid 🙃@@TableTopReadyRU-vid
Thanks a lot for this video! Just finished my first deafkopta, still far from your level but you're tutorials are priceless. Subscribed on Patreon, cheers from Paris
Outstanding painting guide here, Michael. I've got 9 Deffkoptas still sat in my pile of shame but this has inspired me to get these guys up and running for some games in the New Year. Thanks again, keep up the amazing work and wishing you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2024 and beyond 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
Hey Michael great video! I have a question for you about highlighting. I noticed that a lot of painters edge highlight the color red with orange, edge highlight gold with silver etc...are these choices based on color theory or a color wheel? Just curious because those color choices examples ive given wouldn't occur to me naturally. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
You want your highlights to really contrast and stand out against the base colour. Generally you would just use a lighter version but that would be pink for red. Pink is better for purple. So we change pink to an alternative. Most of the time you would use an orange or flesh colour depending. Again silver just contrasts really well, you could knock it back mixing it with the gold. I hope that makes sense. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well 👋🏻
May I recommend a mixture for you, boss? I work with an award winning painter and he advised me to basecoat orks with zandri diary and then use contrast mantis something green. It makes them look amazing. Give it a try!
i think you paint minis in the best style, very clean and lots of bright popping colors. id love to see you do some work using less paints for us noobs just getting into the hobby.
I'm a huge fan of the eavy metal and GW style. If your just starting out, I really reccomend to painting the base colours. Making sure to practice your basics and getting those solid base colours. When your ready you can add some shading and after that you can do some highlights. you don't have to do everything all at once :) take your time with it
I have a heck of a time painting ork skin; I resorted to a combo of contrast paint with a wash over it, but I’m not 100% sold on it. Getting a nice gradient to the layering is tough for me!
Love your painting guides! How do you attach your sub assemblies to the wood you use out of interest? I always find if I use blu-tack they fall off easily, and if I use super glue I lose a finger trying to get them off with a scalpel 😮
I do use super glue to attach them to the blocks, you really don't need a lot thought. I do have a video about how I get my miniatures ready for painting. I talk about it all in that
great video! mine are all painted, but i still love watching others paint. I have a sister who is 100% new in the hobby never painted a model in her life (25 years old). She went for chaos, so instead of me wasting my time teaching her how to paint, i sent her a link with your tutorial for painting black legion. And her first ever models looks nothing like mine did when i started painting many decades ago. Her models looks like it was painted by someone who knows how to paint! So great videos mate, they really do help people who are new to the hobby.
thats amazing, I'm glad my content has been useful. its make doing all this work worth while :D I hope you both continue to keep ainting and get beter and most of enjoy it
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid thank you for your reply. I have been painting since old Epic way way back, and then made the move over to 40k back in 2nd edition when the space wolves codex came out (1993-1994). I know how to paint, i just don't have the skills to teach others, that why i love your channel. Even though i like to think that i know everything, even i learn new things every time i watch your videos. =)
Thank you. Apart from painting the details how you would want them. I painted the base and rocks using Doombull Brown. I then use a martian mix from Geek gaming scenics stuck on with PVA glue, rim is just black, this is how I do all my Orks
I show bad moons in my Ork clan video and there is a yellow mega armour tutorial as well. I would recommend actually starting from wraithbone and paint the armour first. Then paint the metal parts later. You just need to be a bit careful when doing this
I'm not likely to paint other clans of deffkoptas. I can only suggest using some of my other ork tutorials where i cover different clans and colour schemes and mix them together :)
Everyone has access to the same stuff. £5 is kind of the minimum for RU-vid and £3 is the suggested minimum for patreon. I wanted people to have a choice of platform. I didn’t want to restrict anyone based on the amount. I wanted that to be a personal choice.
@@TableTopReadyRU-vid ok mate thanks for that... i will become a patreon shortly for £3 pound a month as your painting tutorials have helped me in a huge way ...again thanks ... my name is also michael lol
you have gone the way, the people know NOTHING and explain silly minor things. Thank you, you show all the steps to get good results and make it accessible to new and experienced people.
I wouldn’t say they are silly or minor. Those things tend to be the most important and overlooked things. Things I wish someone talked to me about. I’m glad you like my content 😁 thanks for the comment
one of my early videos is about painting Ork vehicles and if you use along side this one, you should be able to paint the battle wagon no problem. Use an undercoat that best suits your clan colour and paint the armour first, then worry about all the metals after
