Hi all, just a super quick and easy beginner painting that can look quite dramatic. I used a black canvas with liquid clear applied. Colors were phthalo blue and green, black, and white.
You nailed it when you said that people (me!) has a hard time figuring out the shape of the cloud and tend to do the same shape. I often don't like them and tinker too much and they end up looking flat. These are so pretty. I really love the black canvasses but I think they are harder than white ones. Thanks again!!
This was very helpful. It's a great idea to just focus on clouds. Too often these types of tutorials spend 10 minutes on clouds and 25 on the foreground and it can feel isolating when you're looking for help with something specific. The videos on the oval brush trees, and this video are great examples of real tutorials.
Oh this is a beauty!! Your clouds...skies are so beautiful...love your black canvas pieces especially...thank you for posting this...the clouds have so much depth...and yes your a joy to listen to as well....your a wonderful teacher...with very good tips throughout... Thank you,..I've watched all your videos and enjoy watching the video of the moonlight blue clouds video ..keep watching that one...now this...so wonderful...I hope you will do some more northern lights on the wooden canvas like your other video...beautiful...absolutely beautiful....best moonlight sky I've seen on RU-vid besides your first one or other one....and I know every painting channel out there...many in other languages as well...thank you
Bram all of your paintings are beautiful! Thank you so much for these teaching video"s,. I have the worst time with clouds and rocks. After watching this video maybe I will be able to make puffy clouds.
going to try this on some black canvases that my son gave me for Christmas, looks like a great one to try on the black canvas, thanks for the idea Bram, you are an amazing artist even tho you say you are not... i sure appreciate your helps and tips. I am going to start going thru the BR books that have directions on how to paint different scenes, and going to start at the beginning of one book and work my way thru each project, thanks for that tip in another video you did...Keep up the great work.
Also...your very good teacher ...you give great...important tips like at 8:06 is just one example... Oh what a gorgeous sky... Please consider doing just skies on the wooden canvas...you could make a series of cloud paintings...day...sunset...moonlight...northern lights...then post on Ebay as a auction...I suggested this to another artist 2 yrs ago, he was new and learning...he started selling on Ebay posting the painting after video...it took like 3-6 months before the buyers really started bidding higher and higher...now if he posts...his work has since become high demand (landscapes) ..his works are puzzels... he sells prints and so on...his Ebay has now slowed down because his pieces have become high demand and high priced... Just a suggestion...mind always thinking....if I had the resources I'd follow my advice...for now all I can do is share my ideas...hope you don't mind... Another idea....RU-vid suggests...that creators post comments on other channels...this way viewers can find your channel...I've found many good channels in the comment section of other channels....I only suggest this because I think many beginners would really learn from your channel... Create a tic toc video it will be posted and that's a good way for viewers to find your channel...not sure how RU-vid posts the clip or if the creators do...it comes up under (short stories)... Posting consistent weekly or however...and post on community page eachtime a new video is posted... Maybe...later...have a (paint along with Brim) IG page...where viewers can post their renditions of your lesson...then you flash their pieces on screen in next video....something like that...gives incentive for followers to watch...paint..pick up a brush....and such... Ok I'm stopping now...
This is definitely next on my list not only for the practice but man oh man, it's beautiful! LOL I did have a question for ya though. You said you laid down some liquid clear and then your basecoat of color? It seems to me you could put too much on without even realizing it? Is there a way to kinda gage this, like you do with the liquid white while making sure you get a good complete coverage of the base color? Am I over analyzing this Bram? LOL The main reason I'm asking is I watched the Beginner Sunset Painting(also on my to do list) you did with the liquid clear and crimson and it looked like the crimson took a bit to get good even coverage. Also stoked about trying the filbert brush for evergreens! Thanks again and please keep the videos comin' please! They are a HUGE help! :-)
Just a thin coat. You can take a paper towel and remove it a bit to make sure you don't have too much on there. Next time I do a black canvas, I will show that on video.
thank you, that's a great tutorial, I am learning a lot. I will try this as soon as possible, it is also an amazing painting. I am watching all your videos, they are all beautiful, thank you!
Hi, this is really helpful. A problem I have with my clouds is picking up the sky on the brush so I struggle to get any definition - do I need to thin out my cloud paint or am I using too much liquid white to prime my canvas?
Once I get back set up to paint, are you going to do any tutorials? I have been thinking of taking the CRI course just because I can't paint. My first few were "mud" mixing. Haven't done a painting in almost 18 months due to life happening.
Hey I sent you some messages on IG !!! I also reached out to a Bob Ross certified instructor today, I didn’t get a response back,, I live in Indiana, trying to get with someone and take a course, lessons!! Whatever I can find in that style of Bob Ross.
